Question

what was the title of the bokk scarlet is reading whilst on the treadmil?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.74.204.247 (talk) 00:19, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canon

I don't see how the comics are any more canon than anything else. If there's anything from Hasbro stating that the comics are more canon than the cartoons, the filecards, or anything else, I'd like to see it. Until then, there's no reason to say the comics are canon.

The comic books were originally written by the same guy who wrote the filecards. As such the two are inter-linked. For example, when Storm Shadow became a Joe in the comic books this was reflected in action figure line. But when something such as Grunt being left in an alternate dimension in the cartoons happened it was ignored by the action figure line. The comics are clearly cannon (especially over the cartoons). 24.178.211.155 17:48, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One of the ways of determining canon, in any literature, is by asking "which came first?" The comic began being published a full year before the cartoon and Larry Hama has mentioned that the "real" story is what he was lisenced to tell via Marvel comics. A couple years ago, I met one of the editors from the Marvel days who told me that Marvel was licensed first, then Sunbow. He said that the cartoon was pitched as a half hour toy commercial, whereas the comic was to be the "story." These items of data sway me towards saying the comics are canon and the cartoon, while entertaining and fun, was fodder.Medleystudios72 (talk) 02:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As much as I would like to think the original cartoon's continuity takes precedence over the comics, the real canon lies with the action figures and they reflect the comic continuity-- when a character died in the comic he died in the toys and he/she was not brought back in later sets...

Snake-Eyes & Scarlett

I think we should at least tell the story of how Snake-Eyes and Scarlett fell in love in the comic book story. It's a very touching story.

I just wonder what makes Herb Trimpe's story in the last paragraph noteworthy. If any, I think the lack of romantic relationship in Sigma 6 is more noteable! --SCSI Commando 04:18, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree! I'm pretty surprised somebody keeps criticizing Sunbow. --Destron Commander 04:22, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I edited a bunch, keeping in references to SE, but acknowledging the fact that different sources of canon show different pairings. Per Hasbro, they are all considered canon sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.60.214.85 (talk) 04:53, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rank

An "E-5" is a "Sergeant", not a "Master Sergeant" which is "E-8". Which is she?

I'm afraid rank has become less of an issue as the series went further on. --Destron Commander 05:35, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
E-8 Master Sergeant, I remember correcting it in two places a few months ago, someone must have reverted. She is senior to Snake-Eyes. Nicht Nein! 06:03, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Lucidity, precision, and comprehensibility

Regarding Snake Eyes: "he has never met Scarlett, but he is in love with her" It is difficult to claim the accuracy of both of these statements simultaneously. Perhaps someone could rewrite and re-frame this information in a manner that is not inherently contradictory. Alternatively, perhaps someone could explain to the reader, who does not already possess in depth knowledge of the storyline and esoteric thematic development, the metaphysical justification behind such a paradox. Either course of action would be enlightening. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pseudobadger (talkcontribs) 18:57, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I took it out in my edit as it was extraneous and confusing to begin with. It is enough to say that in many sources of canon, he is in love with her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.60.214.85 (talk) 04:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Siblings

So Devil's Due's "Scarlett Declassified" finally confirmed that the 3 brothers exist in the comics, making them official in both licenses. But what of Scarlett's sister, Siobhan? She showed up in the Marvel comics after the Baroness injured Scarlett. Shouldn't the sister be named among the family? Medleystudios72 (talk) 02:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know what issue she was shown in? If you can find that, then add and cite it. Sgetz (talk) 16:43, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed this tag because it was not posted here why it was added. If someone wants to talk about it, post here before posting the tag again. 72.237.4.150 (talk) 12:58, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored it. The opening clause -- "A debate rages" -- is unsubstantiated. The entire section lacks references to the existence of any sort of "debate" (i.e. evidence any cares about plot conflicts to offer commentary on them), or that any such debate is "raging". Rinse and repeat for the rest of the section. --EEMIV (talk) 17:22, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, how does it seem now? What further should be added to help make it more clear? Sgetz (talk) 16:55, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would like to know why such information as this is irrelevant and not important enough to be listed here?

The MASS Device, Snake Eyes sacrifices himself to save the team and he and Scarlett touch palms while separated by a plexiglass wall, which brings Scarlett to tears. When Snake Eyes returns to headquarters alive, Scarlett throws herself into his arms.

Duke however kissed the character Selena in episode The MASS Device. Duke was also seen with Cover Girl as the two kissed in Cobra Claws Are Coming to Town.

It's just being accurate to what happen. I fail to see how just saying implied is allowed. That sounds more like the perfect excuse to never naming any episodes or writing out any scenes to prove this so-called implied thing. Also, why is the info on G.I. Joe vs. Transformers being deleted? That has a source. Alert01 (talk) 02:50, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duke did not kiss Selena in Mass Device, she kissed him; there is a difference. Also, Cover Girl kissed Duke on the cheek in "Cobra Claws are coming to town." again there is a difference. It is apparent that such comments are being used to elevate one pairing (Scarlett & Snake Eyes) over the other. And when something like that happens, there is no objectivity. Doctorfacts (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:01, 14 May 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I just have to ask. How many contributors have actually watched the GiJoe cartoon series (1980s)? I am asking because of the MASS Device example given for Snake Eyes and Scarlett and the lack of relevant information when it came to Duke and Scarlett in the same mini-series. Now, there are a few other episodes that can support that Scarlett was in fact closer to Duke in the series. If I start listing them, it will not make sense to have "Because of these events, who Scarlett was romantically involved with or closer to is difficult to say". Once again, I do not have a preference when it comes to which character gets the girl. I simply want to make certain that a reader is given the information with no bias whatsoever because, after all, this is an article we are talking about not a forum post. Doctorfacts (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:55, 30 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Unsourced editing

I don't know where this implied thing comes from, but if it was then there needs to be more of a written explanation to that since one has been written out for Snake Eyes and Scarlett (The MASS Device) and another for Duke and two other women (once again The MASS Device and Cobra Claws Are Coming to Town). 75.60.208.208 (talk) 10:28, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If an episode or episodes can be listed and a scene or scenes are written out describing this implied thing with Scarlett and Duke in the cartoon that doesn't exaggerate or speculate... then I wouldn't have a problem with it.NamelessConsular (talk) 01:51, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring

There has been some edit warring over the content of this article. I was asked by one of the editors to help. I have no knowledge of Scarlett (G.I. Joe), and so take no side in the dispute. I have invited the editors in question to discuss the matter here, and I hope that will help clear things up. However, I have one piece of advice to those editors. Anything which is a matter of personal judgement really should not be in the article at all: we should stick to verifiable facts. This may mean that the article should be a good deal shorter, but its quality might well be improved. Consider cutting it down to just what is agreed on, and missing out those things which are matters of opinion. If, however, you must include things which are debatable, then mention both opinions. It may be that nobody finishes up with exactly the version of the article they would ideally like, but everyone finishes up with something they will settle for. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:23, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here are my thoughts on the issue (one of the involved editors asked me what I thought on my Talk page): First, as to the facts, I have always thought that the consensus of the fan community was that Scarlett was paired with Snake Eyes in the comic, Duke in the cartoon. A quick Google search to confirm turns up this and this (both forum threads, and not reliable sources in any way). Reading through those threads, it seems that there actually is some debate over the matter; go figure.
Second, as to how it should be handled in this article. I wonder if we really need an entire section on Scarlett's relationships. Wouldn't it work better to incorporate that info into the rest of the article? I would be bold and do something about this, but I'm afraid that I can't be bothered. If you would like some more input, try posting at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject G.I. Joe to get some knowledgeable editors involved. Cheers, --Cerebellum (talk) 12:49, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all editors that edit warring is not to be tolerated. Continued edit warring in lieu of discussion by any editor(s) after the protection runs out, will result in blocks of said editor(s). Talk page discussion is a much more preferred way of reaching consensus, and if that doesn't work we have things such as Third Opinion, RFC, Mediation, etc. BOZ (talk) 04:13, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Artistns007, 20 May 2010

{{editprotected}}

I request that the page is not edit protected, as the Relationships section of the page is missing numerous points of information, and is even grammatically flawed.

Certain facts, prominent to the point, are not included-

Scarlett is said to be in a relationship with Snake Eyes in the file cards to the toys. Furthermore, this relationship was hinted at in the cgi film that accompanied the Spy Troop toys. There is no clear statement that Duke and Scarlett were in a relationship in the IDW continuity, though there are hints of a "history", and what that entails has not been disclosed. On the same coin, there are hints she has a "history" with Snake Eyes. The Valor Vs Venom toys included promotional comics, which also included Snake Eyes and Scarlett as a couple. As part of a Toyfare magazine exclusive offer, Snake Eyes and Scarlett were offered in what was described in advertising as G I Joe's "First Couple". The Sigma 6 cartoon has "hints of a relationship" between Snake Eyes and Scarlett, as least to the point of being less implied and more stated than the IDW Scarlett and Duke relationship claim. The Sigma 6 toy file cards, however, directly state Snake Eyes' attachment to Scarlett. Snake Eyes and Scarlett are described, repeatedly, to be in a relationship in the 2009 guidebook, written by Pablo Hidalgo. While it is never confirmed to be part of any greater comic continuity, the G I Joe manga includes a relationship between Snake Eyes and Scarlett.

At the very lest, I forward the notion that the lines

"In the majority of various continuities, Scarlett is involved romantically with Snake Eyes. This includes Spy Troops/Valor Vs Venom movie series, Sigma 6 cartoon and toys, toy file cards, Marvel comic series, GI Joe Transformers cross-overs (two separate continuities, but both include the relationship), GI Joe manga and GI Joe guide book. In terms of her relationship with Duke, she is with him in GI Joe Resolute. She shows a connection to Snake Eyes, but an attraction to Ripcord in the Rise of Cobra film. The original cartoon mini-series shows Duke with another woman and hints at Snake Eyes and Scarlett being romantically involved, but this connection is never seen again in the cartoon and Scarlett and Duke are shown to become flirtatious in the syndicated series that followed. GI Joe Reloaded was never completed, and no definitive relationship between Duke and Scarlett or Snake Eyes was ever shown. The IDW series has also shown hints to both romantic angles."

I suggest this section being included due to evidence referenced, as it is a detailed rundown of arguably all major GI Joe continuities. Artistns007 (talk) 08:27, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please allow time for other editors to comment on your suggestions before requesting the edit. Thanks. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:21, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did a lot of the work on this page before, and think any relationship information should be included. This is a fictional character with many alternate continuities. She has an official relationship with Snake-Eyes in most Comic series, and Duke in most animated series. Nothing is implied by it. Sgetz (talk) 03:49, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Artistns007, I disagree with a few of your suggestions to this section in regards to Sigma 6 and the 80's cartoon. I have watched both and can state that: 1) Snake Eyes going out of his way to rescue Scarlett in the Sigma 6 cartoon is hardly ground to state that they were in a relationship. We are talking about the cartoon here and not the toy file cards. 2) The 1980's cartoon mini-series (The MASS Device) do not give any hints of a romantic involvement with Snake Eyes and Scarlett. Snake Eyes makes a sacrifice for the sake of the mission, Scarlett is saddened by it, when he returns, she is very happy and hugs him. If that is ground to state that they were romantically involved, then there are also stronger hints in the same mini-series involving Duke and Scarlett that one can use to make the same claim.
