7aam Arivu (English: The Seventh Sense) is an upcoming Tamil science fiction thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Starring Suriya, in triple roles, and Shruthi Haasan, the film, being produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, began production in May 2010. The story is said to revolve around a "super machine", which is brought to India.[1]. The film is about the Bodhidharma who was a Tamil Kshatriya from southern India's Pallava Empire and also began the physical training of the Shaolin monks that led to the creation of Shaolin Kung Fu. The film will be dubbed into Hindi and Telugu as well.[2]

Production

Suriya was reported to play three characters; a circus artist,[3] a Buddhist monk, set in China in the 14th century, and a scientist.[4] Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen was signed to play the antagonist,[1] while Kannada actor Avinash was chosen for the role of Suriya's father.[5] 1000 dancers were alloted for a song.[6] A stunt sequence was shot at Binny Mills at Perambur, Chennai where Suriya went through an ankle injury due to which he was forced to take a 3 day rest.[7] The first schedule of the film was completed in China. The film was supposed to be a period film set in the BC.[8] A shot was taken in Ampa Skywalk Mall in Chennai[9] and another one in Besant Nagar where Suriya was picturised riding an elephant.[10]

Sources claimed that the film drew inspirations from Christopher Nolan's Inception. However, the director dismissed the news, reasoning that he had begun shooting much before the release of Inception. Murugadoss further denied reports that the film was a remake of the Bollywood flick Chandni Chowk to China, as both were supposed to be set in China, and that the film's concept was similar to that of the Hollywood film Perfume, stating the script as original.[11] Suriya trained to get a six pack abs for a Kung Fu sequence within 16 days, following cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran's request.[12]

Soundtrack

The soundtrack, composed by Harris Jayaraj, consists of six songs including a Chinese track, sung by Chinese singer Hau.[13] It marks the second collaboration of Jayaraj and A. R. Murugadoss after the success of Ghajini. Lyrics were penned by Madhan Karky. The audio rights of the album were bagged by Sony Music reportedly for a whopping amount.[14] The composition of the soundtrack took place in Singapore.[15].The soundtrack will be releasing on 20th of August 2011.[16][17]
