"T.H.E."
Song

"T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" is a song by will.i.am featuring Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez that he released online on November 19, 2011, as a single from his upcoming album, #willpower. The song was released on iTunes on November 20 in the hours following its debut on the American Music Awards.

Background

He announced the song via a Twitter announcement among other online media.[1] His tweet gave a Dipdive link.[1] Moments later he also tweeted a Google+ link.[2] The song debuted on the November 20, 2011 American Music Awards at the Nokia Theater with will.i.am and Lopez performing live and Jagger performing on video.[3] The song was released on iTunes immediately following the AMA performance.[3] The song was produced by Audiobot, Dallas Austin and will.i.am[3] as well as Jimmy Iovine.[4] The song was released on iTunes under the Interscope Records label.[5]

will.i.am had previously commented about the song on twitter. He announced on November 16 that he and Lopez would debuted the song together on November 20, during the 2011 American Music Awards.[6] On November 18, he released the cover art for the single as his Twitter avatar and background.[7]

will.i.am originally presented the track to Iovine without featured artists as a finished work and was caught off guard by his request to add performers to the song. In response, he threw out Jagger's name among possible collaborators because he thought it would never happen.[4] Iovine produced Jagger's vocals. It was the first time Iovine had produced in decades.[4] Immediately after the AMA performance, will.i.am thanked Fighting Gravity via Twitter.[8]

Music video

Will.i.am tweeted that a portion of the video was filmed on October 17, 2011 in Los Angeles.[9]. On October 24, he tweeted that he had hurt himself during filming.[10]. Lopez filmed her part in the video on October 30, 2011.[11]. After the song's November 20 AMA debut, MTV reported that the video, which was shot both in Los Angeles and in London, it was expected to premiere late November 2011 but it will now be released in December 2011 instead.[3] The video was directed by Rich Lee.[3]
