Speedy deletion of Everett L. Storey

Hi Crusoe,

Although his work was pretty hoax-tastic, it seems (from a bit of Googling) that Everett L. Storey actually existed. The article therefore isn't eligible for deletion under G3. It needs a hell of a lot of tidying and referencing, but it does look like something we should have an article on. You can always take it to WP:AFD if you really disagree. Cheers, Yunshui (talk) 09:20, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, plenty of BULLSHIT when you Google! Dear old Everett is as real as pixies at the bottom of the garden, would prefer you attempt to find a reliable reference for his (alleged) existence and when you fail put back my speedy nom before I go to the trouble of WP:AFD. Regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:29, 18 October 2011 (UTC) ... and 5.0 Trustworthy, 4.0 Complete, don't we love rating our own contributions! Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:32, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy wasn't so far off after all; turned out to be a copyvio. Yunshui (talk) 09:34, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The US Patents Quarterly lists a lawsuit naming him, and he's listed in Ulrich's, so his existence (at least as the publisher of West) is demonstrated. Notability is most definitely not; the one book that discusses him in any detail (Blue Diamond Story) is self-published poppycock, so no use as a source. Effective Cyber Bullying, Due To This Website Having No Quality Control

For a man who has so much editing power, you are surprisingly uninformed. I challenge you to find me one single place on any reputable website, book or article which spells the characters' names from Fellini-Satyricon as you claim they should be. You also claim that because the film is Italian, we should use the Italian spellings on the English wikipedia. This is ridiculous for several reasons: a) the Italian for Ascyltus would be, if it is any different in formal writing, Ascylto not Ascilto, b) When writing about Rome: Open City, another film by Fellini, would you write 'Roma' instead of Rome? I would hope not.

I don't have time for this quibble so I will not bother explaining the obvious any longer. If you do change it back, which, being as stubborn as you evidently are, is tremendously likely, I will not give up the fight. There is no way that the time I put in to editing in the first place (yes it was all of 5 minutes but the principle still stands...) will be wasted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ðœð (talkcontribs) 05:53, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They have their place but as I see it Don, Nellie and Phar Lap are famous; famously is a word which can well be done without and extermination on sight is reasonable. A tag has been placed on Nathan Brown (Entrepreneur/Executive Producer), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Removing title

Hi. Could I ask you to please stop moving the Portuguese armada pages? Titles like "Second Portuguese Armada" are not commonly known or commonly used. For most people, the voyages are better known by their captains (Vasco da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral, etc.) and year. It also makes it easier to identify which one you are looking for when they come up in a search. Walrasiad (talk) 15:12, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don Estoban

Go for it; this was created a long time ago when I was still discovering what topics were article-worthy. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 17:24, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the notification of this proposed deletion. Looking at the article in its current state, I agree it's not worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. Alas it appears that some editors have removed almost all of the verifiable material which demonstrates notability of maban as a cultural and mythological concept, replacing it along the way with patent nonsense and irrelevant material. (The Buddhist connection is completely opaque to me.)

This is a shame, since maban is a well-documented concept in the myth and legend of the Australian Aboriginal cultures, which in my opinion is worthy of an article in Wikipedia, in the same sense as an article on (say) Gleipnir, or Sampo, or Kaustubha.

I note that the 19:39, 26 November 2010 edit by User:Misarxist removed much of the verifiable material, under the edit reason of "new age cruft". This edit in fact removed the material discussing maban in the context of it being a mythical substance and left behind the material that is unsupported in my studies of the topic!

I don't have time to rectify this problem with a rewrite citing reference material identifying maban as a mythical substance and discussing it properly in that context. It seems there are other editors who want to distort it with unsourced speculation and inappropriately treat maban as a real magical substance. The user User:B9 hummingbird hovering has added some significant references (which I think should be retained), but unfortunately treated them poorly by misinterpretation and poor writing style.

My recommended minimal course of action would be to revert to a much earlier version, such as the stub of User:Cydebot on 28 February 2007, with the references to Elkin and Munn retained, and then hope that wiki magic works better a second time through. If I have time in the next few days I may do this myself, but if you wish to do this, please do so. -dmmaus (talk) 03:55, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Title/redirection of Vaucluse College FCJ

Hello Crusoe

A previous edit involved redirecting the page Vaucluse College FCJ to Vaucluse College.

The correct entry is Vaucluse College FCJ - so it should actually be the other way around. The school was always knowns as Vaucluse College FCJ so this really should be fixed, especially with Facebook pages now listing the school.

Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites should be helpful (took me a bit of time to find it). Regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:02, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may find this handy!

Hi Crusoe8181, as I have seen your wonderful contributions to Wikipedia, there are some mistakes that you and I have made. I would like to inform you about the Navigation Boxes for locations in the Rural City of Swan Hill. You have put in former localities in the localities box. To inform you, there are these very useful maps of suburb boundaries and local government areas. This link, is a suburb and local government area boundary map for the Rural City of Swan Hill, http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/104609/Swan_Hill_V44.pdf . For other local government area boundaries, please search google "site:dse.vic.gov.au SUBURB AND RURAL DISTRICT NAMES AND BOUNDARIES" and you may put the LGA name on the end to specify the search. (eg. (search google) site:dse.vic.gov.au SUBURB AND RURAL DISTRICT NAMES AND BOUNDARIES moorabool) I currently find this a really useful tool and use to do what you did (I'm guessing using 'Google Maps').

Sorry for any inconvenience caused and keep contributing!

Hello, Thanks for your help; I did revert my edit of last night when I checked the map (I have all LGA maps of Victoria stored offline). Caused by the fact that Tyrell Downs is ignored by Google maps and using a rather poor public computer! I was considering directing you to the same sources!. Oh, right, thanks for the response. Now you and I have to work on getting the uncreated localities created on Wikipedia!

Category:Australian cricketers

Hello. We use Category:Australian cricketers at WP:CRIC as a good way of keeping checking on how many cricketers of a certain nationality we have done, so it would be handy if you could retain the category on articles about Australian cricketers. Thanks. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 10:53, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, a fairly clear case of diffusing categories to maintain the category tree; BUT I deliberately changed only a few in case there was any demur, which there now is. My response is that Keepin' count of how many we has Dun is insufficient reason for a mangled category tree. In a few days (after the Silly Season) I will start a discussion; in the meantime, all the best for the New Year (which is closing fast where I am) Crusoe8181 (talk) 08:44, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that it's a great idea to delete this article, so I've removed your prod.

I think the preferable course would be to merge any suitable content into a suitable target article. I think the only one that's around at the moment is History of Tasmania timeline, so I've started a discussion at the talkpage at Talk:History of Tasmania#Merger proposal. ˜danjel [ talk | contribs ] 17:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I felt a bold approach was needed as the references SEEM to be a website we can't see(!) and a possible amateur history (no ISBN) and the content is such as to appear not to belong anywhere. The any suitable content would be the sticking-point, as I see none such. Serious contributors to Australian history remain sorely needed, though. Regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 08:26, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Have to AGF on the book. Therefore there could be something that could be brought over from the "Impact on Native Population" section. I don't know. I'll leave it to people with a stake in the target article.
Don't look to me for serious contribution to Australian history. That's my Dad's area. So I did Geography at school. Heh. ˜danjel [ talk | contribs ] 08:42, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apostrophes

probably OK; not official geographic/locality names here so whatever the local council etc. calls them would be correct. Hello Crusoe8181.

I note you have renamed the reference to Cabbage Tree Island in the Ballina Shire article which I had also renamed yesterday. I would appreciate your thoughts, as I fear your solution is not really much better than my own. The problem is that there is already a page for Cabbage Tree Island, but there are at least two physical locations sharing the same name, and both are (arguably) in N.S.W. - one being the nature reserve off the coast near Port Stephens which has the write-up; and the other being the Aboriginal settlement on an island in the Richmond River just south of Wardell (which has several references other than this one - but as yet has had not actual write-up!)

The situation really cries out for a disambiguation page to be created, but I for one have simply no idea how to create one, or even who to ask about getting one set up.

Any thoughts? Should I add some text to the already-written article to indicate there is another location of the same name, or is this only going to make a bad situation even worse?

Regards, AuFCL (talk) 00:58, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dab pages disambiguate between Wikipedia articles so no need for one (yet); as you say there are more than Cabbage Tree Islands (three in fact) but one only is a locality rather than a geographic feature, hence my renaming and my requested deletion of a dab page (albeit for a redlink, which is the name it should have were an article to be created). If you create an article from the redlink Cabbage Tree Island, New South Wales then dab would be needed, but just a hatnote would do. Dab pages are easy enough, just copy from a similar one, but they are only for articles already created rather than for those which may theoretically be created. Hoping I haven't left you more confused!. Regards 59.167.127.148 (talk) 10:04, 5 February 2012 (UTC) Actually Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:07, 5 February 2012 (UTC) when I sign in![reply]

removal of material and references from island articles with the edit comment "mapit to coord"

Sir or m'am, Twice you have removed material and references from Barber Island.  This time, the removal was only one reference instead of three, but there is no apparent reason for the removal of either the material or the reference either time.  Looking in your recent contribs, I see another island article with the removal of a section.  Maybe if I knew what you were trying to do it would help.  Regards, Unscintillating (talk) 12:32, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, poor quality images of station signs (and the occasional bit of fence, bin, and a hint of platform) apparently taken from a train are, in quality, so far below the images that were there. If you were to put some of your pics down the article with a caption mentioning new (?) signage that would hardly be a problem. I have pretended your second edit was not made. Regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 07:11, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for leaving my edits alone, but just to clarify, my photos were far higher quality than those from before (6 years of technological advancements ahead) as they were 14 MP and uncompressed. Secondly, in most of my photos you actually can see most of the platform(s) and I focused on the signs because they made a good focal point for the photo and showed what the location actually was. Also you keep going on about a bin being in the photos when only one that you actually changed had a bin in it (Landsborough) which showed more platform than a lot of the others. Also, why did you only remove about three quarters of my photos? I found that quite strange, especially considering you left some of the worst ones and removed most of the good ones. Anyway, just justifying it to you. I know you probably don't give a rats but yep. TravellerQLD (talk) 06:01, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
