Many centuries ago, the android Peebo and the Biorobo came to Earth from the fallen Bio Star. The Biorobo showered five people with Bio Particles, which would be passed on to later generations. In the present time, Doctor Man and his Shin Teikoku (New Empire) Gear threaten the world. Peebo must find the descendants of the original five to form the Choudenshi (Super Electronic) Bioman.

Characters

Biomen

"One! Two! Three! Four! Five! Super-Electronic Bioman!"

  • Shirou Gou (郷史朗 Gō Shirō) / Red One (レッドワン Reddo Wan): 24 year old pilot. Shirou is the pilot of the first Japanese space shuttle. Unfortunately, he gets caught in the crossfire just as the Gear begin the invasion. In him, passion and responsibility unite in an unusual combination. He is a little quick-tempered at times. Because of the power of the Bio Particles, Red One is able to speak with animals. Shirou grew up believing that his father was dead. However, after meeting Professor Shibata, even he is not so sure.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Super Electron Radar, Fire Sword and Spark Sword.
  • Shingo Takasugi (高杉真吾 Takasugi Shingo) / Green Two (グリーンツー Guriin Tsu): 23 year old race car driver. Shingo can be very tough to enemies yet very kind to children, for whom he has a soft spot. Yet despite his bravado, there are times when Shingo doubts his own abilities. Once, he was depressed when a little boy's confidence in him was shattered. Another time, he doubted himself after he quit playing baseball as a high schooler. Yet despite these doubts, Shingo knows what he must do and does them as well as possible. He pretended to be a criminal and ended up having a boy idolize and imitate him. To prove to the boy that crime does not pay, Shingo let himself be beaten up by street thugs while the boy was watching! Green Two is the designated driver of the Bio Turbo. This is natural as he is the best driver on the team. He also breakdances and this is incorporated into his attacks. Shingo's ancestor who received the Bio Particles was a hunter.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Super Electron Scope, Hurricane Sword, Green Bomerang and Break Action.
  • Ryuta Nanbara (南原竜太 Nanbara Ryūta) / Blue Three (ブルースリー Buruu Surii): 19 year old watersportsman. Boyish and adventurous, Ryuta loves to explore and discover things new. Do not mistake him for an absent-minded child, though, he is quite level headed and full of determination, as his confrontation with the evil Prince showed. His years of diving have made him very nimble, and thus he is very skilled in stealth techniques.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Super Electron Ear, Electron Sword and Sky Diving.
  • Mika Koizumi (小泉ミカ Koizumi Mika) / Yellow Four (イエローフォー Ieroo Foa) (1-10): 18 year old photographer. Dreams of following in her brother's footseps to photograph the wildlife in Africa. Initially, Mika is hesitant to join the Bioman team. However, she is convinced when she realizes that if she doesn't fight, then even the animals in Africa that she loves will eventually be in danger. For someone who is hesitant to do battle, Mika is a powerful and skilled martial artist. She died by Anti-bioparticle blast in episode 10.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Super Electron Holograph and Thunder Sword.
  • Jun Yabuki (矢吹ジュン Yabuki Jun) / Yellow Four (イエローフォー Ieroo Foa) (11-51): 19 year old Olympic archer. After watching the Biomen in action, she tries to join them but is initially refused, even though Mika Koizumi had just died. The others were looking for another descendant of the original five who were bombarded with bio particles. However, she proves her courage, and it was also a pleasant surprise to discover that Jun has Bio Particles. It was thus with great joy that she was presented with a technobrace to become the new Yellow Four. Jun has to sacrifice her membership in the Japanese Olympic Archery Team, yet her skills become invaluable to the Bioman team.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Bio Arrow and previous Yellow attacks.
  • Hikaru Katsuragi (桂木ひかる Katsuragi Hikaru) / Pink Five (ピンクファイブ Pinku Faibu): 20 year old carnival flutist. Sweet yet strong, a mistress of disguise. Unusually strong spirit yet with a strong motherly instinct. She plays the flute both to calm her spirits and to strengthen her resolve. Willing to risk her life to save children from a mysterious plague, disguising herself as a nurse (she has a soft spot for nurses) to look at the patients, and later on, risking infection in order to find a cure. She is able to befriend the evil computer Brain and teach it about friendship. Hikaru is descended from an upper-class noblewoman who was bombarded with Bio Particles.
    • Attacks/Weapons: Super Electron Beamlight, Pink Barrier, Laser Sword, Pink Flash and Spin Chop.

Allies

  • Peebo (ピーボ Piibo): Peebo is the guardian of the Bio Particles, Bio Robot and Bio Dragon. She came to earth 500 years ago and showered five courageous people with Bio Particles. Now that Gear has made its move, it is time for Peebo to summon descendants of the original five.
  • Shuichi Kageyama (蔭山秀一 Kageyama shu-ichi): Thinking himself an orphan, in reality he is the son of Doctorman. At first, Doctorman tries to get him to join Gear, but Junichi rejects Doctorman. (episodes 25-26) Eventually, Junichi finds and joins Dr. Shibata (43-44). Later, he helps the Biomen ultimately defeat Gear. (47-51).
  • Shouta Yamamori: A mountain youth who loves nature. He also possesses formidable fighting skills. He meets and falls in love with Jun Yabuki and tries to join the team. Later, Gear mind-controls him into becoming an evil armored being powered by negative magnetism. He is freed by Jun and eventually proposes marriage to her. Unfortunately for him, Jun refuses. (episode 35-36).
  • Professor Shibata (柴田博士 Shibata-hakase): A brilliant cybernetics and robotics professor who develops a "conscience circuit". Later revealed to have a dual identity.(episode 43-44, 47-50). Shibata revealed is the biological father of Shirou.
  • Miki: A mechaclone in whose brain Doctorman implanted a connection with the Mechagigan Satanmegas, enabling Satanmegas to rebuild itself if destroyed. Because of Professor Shibata's conscience circuit, she self-destructs to enable Satanmegas to be defeated.

Gear Empire

The Neo Empire Gear was founded and led by the cyborg Doctorman. After Doctorman comes the Big Three, Mason, Fara and Monster, who supervise field missions. The bulk of their forces is composed of generic android soldiers known as mechaclones. Fara is also assisted by Faracat.

  • Doctor Man: Having enhanced his intellect and body with cyborg implants, Dr. Kageyama plans to conquer the world with his army of mecha humans. Has a son, Junichi.
  • Prince: Allegedly the son of Doctorman. Later exposed to be a mere mechaclone (android) modelled after Shuuichi, Dr. Man's son. Junichi (the real son) and Silver, disguise themselves as the Black Prince to infiltrate Neograd.
  • Mason: The leader who once plotted against Doctorman himself. Armed with a staff which fires bolts. Later rebuilt and armed with Meison Rockets and Meison Machinegun.
  • Farrah: The female member of the Big Three. Uses beam weapons and leaves the dirty fighting to Faracat. Often disguises herself as human in her schemes. Later rebuilt and armed with Fara Fire Storm and Fara Kiss (blows an explosive flying kiss).
  • Monster: As strong as a whale and less than half as smart. Likes to work with the monster Ju-Oh a lot. Initially armed with a huge axe, later upgraded and armed with Black Mace, Iron Paw.
  • Farrahcat: Farrah's bodyguard who did the dirty work (i.e. beat up Biomen). Faracat is quick, agile and acrobatic. She has claws for weapons and uses twin nunchukus as well.
  • Mechaclones: Foot soldiers in black with silver heads and red eyes.
  • MechaGigans: Giant robot monsters. Starting with episode 31 they are replaced by presumably more powerful giant monsters called NeoMechaGigans. Prior to episode 31, Mechagaiigan names ended with the suffix "kans" (for example, Kabutokans, Devilkans, etc.) The newer versions had names ending with the suffix "megas".
  • Biohunter Silva: Dark Knight-like Biohunter, a robot from Bio Star programmed to kill anything with Bioparticles. Given half of the Bio Particles, became maniacal and with his robot, Balzion, helped destroy Bio Star. Now armed with Nega Bio Energy similar to that which killed Yellow Four, arrived on Earth to locate and destroy the other group with Bio Particles - Bioman. He was not a member of Gear and they fight each other as well.
  • Balzion: Silva's Giant Robot.

Beastnoids

Unlike other sentai, the monsters Bioman fought did not start small and become giants when defeated. Instead Gear had the five Beastnoids, recurring monsters that fought Bioman at normal size.

  • Psygorn: Psychic monster with the ability to spew fire and uses telekinesis, powered up in episode 33 with a stronger fireball, telekinetic attack and advanced energy beams.
  • Messerbeast: Flying monster, died in episode 31.
  • Aquaiger: Water monster, died in episode 31.
  • Metzler: Spy monster with the ability of energy beams and stealth attacks, powered up in episode 33 with the power to stretch his limbs.
  • Beastking (Ju-Oh): Gorilla-like monster who works for Monster. Rebuilt for more power in episode 34 with more chest cannons.

Arsenal

  • Technobrace: The Biomen use these wrist bands to communicate and transform. The transformation call is "Bioman".
  • Bio Blasters- Blasters used in battle, can turn into sword and dagger modes.

Team Attacks

Unlike other sentai, they have a variety of finishing moves.

  • Bio Prism Laser- All their swords put together to fire an elemental beam.
  • Bio Revolver- The Biomen execute the bio kick together.
  • Bio Electron Beam- Firing of pistols together at the enemy.
  • Bio Big Bow- A giant version of the Bio Arrow.
  • Bio Chain Blast- Blasts of bio energy along the ground.

Trivia

  • Bioman is the first Sentai to have two females and it replaced by another female member.
  • There are two Yellow Fours, First one is Mika Koizumi, who died in episode 10 (Goodbye, Yellow). Second one is Jun Yabuki, she had a debut of episode 11 (Enter New Soldier Jun) until the end. The reason for the change is that Mika Koizumi's actress, Yuki Yajima, left the Japan Action Club (the action star theater group contracted for the Super Sentai series at that time). In fact, in that particular episode (episode 10), there was no transformation sequence for Yellow 4 from her human form. She was Yellow 4 all throughout the episode.
  • In French version of the series, the characters into from Japanese to French names, Jacky Gor (Shirou), Fred (Shingo), Bob (Ryuta), June (Jun) & Sikou (Hikaru).
  • Bioman is unique from other sentai for not having monsters that enlarged when defeated.
  • The series also has a Philippine version of its Japanese names to American English, Kenny (Shirou), Sammy (Shingo), Frankie (Ryuta), Casey (Mika), June (Jun) & Kimberly (Hikaru).
  • Because of its popularity, two Philippine movies were made based on this sentai series.
    • One is a parody entitled Kabayo Kids (although only three sentai members) in 1990. Starring the comic troika of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, with Richie De Horsie. Story: Pamboy (Tito) work as kutsero (coachman), Nanding (Vic) work as jockey, and Pando (Joey) work as panday (blacksmith) respectively, all in line with horses (kabayo). They stumble into a crime committed by a big syndicate headed by Red Devil. The three were almost killed but they managed to seek refuge into Don Horacio’s (Richie) mansion. Horacio used to be a handsome man but was disfigured by some hoodlums who wanted to use his business in their illegal operations, something he refused to oblige. Horacio gave the three superpowers to fight crime. Pamboy tranforms and calls himself "Orange Juice", Nanding as "Green Mango" and Pando as "Yellow Banana". All have the costume-like in Bioman and with motorcycles.
    • The other one is entitled Bio Kids in 1991. Story: Five kids went to a haunted house and were given superpowers by an old genius scientist living there to fight Exxor and his sinister lackeys before they destroy the world's peace.
  • Farrah-cat's actress, Yukari Oshima, went on to become a popular Hong Kong action star and was popularly known in the Philippines as Cynthia Luster. She is currently retired from active acting and is the current action director of the Cutey Honey live-action series.
  • The fanmade sentai team Jushi Sentai France Five has a theme that is heavily influenced by Bioman's opening theme.
  • Bio Hunter Silva is based off the villain Hakaider from the Android Kikaider television show.
  • Hikaru Kurosaki (of Juspion fame) guest starred in episodes 35 & 36. This is where Kurosaki met Yuko Asuka and they later married (she now goes by the name Yuko Kurosaki). Both are currently retired from acting.

In the later episodes Dr. Man is revealed to be a human being. He later reconstructs himself to what seems to be a purely mechanical form. The Big Three then attempt to assassinate Dr. Man but only succeed in killing his decoy. Dr. Man is shown to be still alive and well, trying to reorganize the Gear Empire. It's then discovered that Dr. Man had a son named Shuichi whose face he used to model the face of his 'son', the Black Prince.

As the series continues, both Messerbeast and Aquagaiger die while Psygorn, Mettlzer and Juuoh are reconstructed. The Biomen develop the Bio Electron Charge techinique as a as counterattack. The Biohunter Silver then shows up to harass the Biomen and claim the rest of the Bio particles. Battles come and go as the Gear Empire attempt to get their hands on the Bio Destroyer.

One by one the bad guys die. Juuoh dies in battle after being heavily injured, first by Silver and then by the Biomen. Monster dies as a martyr so the Gear Empire can get the Bio Destroyer Balzion.

In the next battle, Farrah goes into battle where Mettlzer dies as well. Mettlzer dies when he is heavily damaged by the Biomen after he tries to secure the Balzion (being overdosed by Silver's Anti-Bio Energy Beams) and trying to protect Farrah and Farrah Cat. Only Mason, Psygorn and Farrah Cat are left to deal with the Biomen.

The Biomen prepare to go to the South Pole to finish off the Empire. Red One's cyborg father sacrifices himself so the Biomen can escape. They destroy Psygorn in battle where he succuums to his injuries. The Biomen then attempt to kill Mason but Mason is killed by Silver so he can reclaim Balzion. Just when Balzion is winning, Peebo enters the Biorobo and charges it up with a huge amount of bio energy allowing them to destroy Balzion and Silver.

The Biomen are then confronted by Dr. Man's last Mechagaigan. The Mechagaigan is then defeated and Dr. Man attempts to activate a powerful bomb. In the meantime, the Biomen destroy what's left of Farrah Cat and the remaining Mechaclones. Farrah Cat finally dies as well. Shuichi convinces Dr. Man to stop the bomb exploding which he does. Dr. Man succeeds and dies as a result. The Earth is saved once again.

Now the Earth is safe again (but for how long?), Peebo and Biorobo leave for space. Template:Endspoiler
