Pradip Somasundaran
Pradip Somasundaran is a prominent singer and an eminent lecturer in Electronics from Thrissur, Kerala, India. He was born on 26th January 1967 in Nelluvaya, Thrissur, Kerala. He started his Carnatic training at an age of 12, and started his performing career at the age of 16. A noteworthy person among his music teachers is Shri. V Gopalan of Trichur. He is a Graded artist in All India Radio and Doordarshan. He sings classical carnatic, Film Music, Ghazals, Devotional songs etc. in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, English & Japanese languages. He has also traveled abroad to many countries for musical performances. Some of the major countries include UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Quatar etc. He is a member of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association).
He is a Post Graduate Degree holder in Electronics, and is working as a Senior Lecturer & Head of Department of Electronics at the Govt. College of Applied Science,Vadakkencherry, Palakkad, Kerala managed by Institute of Human Resources Development.
He is a regular participant in Swaralaya Dance & Music Festival held at Palakkad and Chembai Sangeethootsavam at Guruvayur. He also conducts lecture demonstration programs on various forms of music and regularly appears in the popular T.V programs like Symphony, Gaanaanjali, Navaratri Swaralaya program, Anjali, Ghazal etc. that are telecast on the popular south indian television channels like Doordarshan, Kairali TV, Asianet, Amrita TV.
Major Achievements
He won many prizes in Classical, Light music & Western music at College level, Zonal level and University level when in Sree Kerala Varma College Thrissur, Kerala, India.
In 1989, while he was in Andhra University, Andhra, India, he won the President’s medal in Light music in the National level music competitions conducted by All India Radio.
In the following year(1990), he won the First prize in Light music & Classical music in Andhra University Youth festival.
Carrying on the success from 1990, he went on to win the first prize in Light music & Classical music in the South zone Inter-University Youth festival that was conducted at Calicut, representing Andhra University in 1991. In the same year, he won the Second prize in Classical music in All India Inter-University Youth festival at Madurai, Conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Association of Indian Universities.
He became famous in the national music arena by winning the Lata Mangeshkar Trophy for the best male singer in the national level competetion Meri Awaz Suno in 1996, which was telecasted by Doordarshan. Meri Awaz Suno was a Music Competetion conducted jointly by Doordarshan, Lata Mangeshkar, and Yash Chopra’s “Metavision”, which was telecasted all across India on the national network. The program was hosted by the famous theater and film personality Annu Kapoor. The Mega-final of the event was judged by a panel of the most eminent musicians of India including Pandit Jasraj, Bhupen Hazarika, Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar. He is also a Malayalam Playback singer.
He was selected to be the part of the 19 member Indian Contingent, which took part in the 6th Ship for World Youth Program in 1994, that Visited Japan, Singapore, Srilanka, Kenya, Greece etc., on a two-and-a-half months long ship voyage.
In 1997, he was selected as one of the 10 Outstanding Indians of 1997 by the JCI India.
He was also selected as the best male playback singer for Television serials in 1998, by Malayalam Television Viewers Association, for the song “Ennakkaruppin Ezhazhagu” from the serial “Ishtamai”.
He has also participated in the "Renaissance-2003 World Youth Leaders Meet" which was held in Japan in 2003. He was one of the only four Indians selected for representing India in this program.
