Dakshin Kanyanagar (Bengali: দক্ষিণনগর) is a census town in Bishnupur II CD Block under Bishnupur police station of Alipore Sadar subdivision in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal.[1]
Geography
Dakshin Kanyanagar is located at 22°13′N 88°10′E / 22.22°N 88.17°E.[2]
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India Amtala had a total population of 8,765, of which 4,416 (50%) were males and 4,349 (50%) were females. Population below 6 years was 829. The total number of literates in Amtala was 6,896 (86.89 % of the population over 6 years).[3]
As of 2001[update] India census,[4] Amtala had a population of 7,599. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Amtala has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 56% of the males and 44% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The new proposed South 24 Paraganas headquarters nearby along with a proposed film city [5] is attracting people to invest in Amtala.
