Hello there! I'm NgYShung and if you have any question or want to talk to me about your/my/others' articles I had edited/created/deleted. You can ask me here!

Hi NgYShung, I noted in the AN/I thread you opened you seemed unsure on how to deal with legal threats when you come across them. When replying, it's best only to remind the editor that WP:NLT applies, report it at AN/I and then disengage from any further communication - which I note you did, so thank you. Keep in mind that sometimes the people making these threats are genuinely upset individuals, who would benefit from a polite and calm explanation of WP:NLT with links to the contact page. Thank you for your continued contributions here -- samtar talk or stalk 10:54, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Automatically add template to articles

Is there any way to automatically add template tag to articles listed in the template. I created Template:Schools in Kedah, Malaysia and Template:Schools in Johor, Malaysia and wish to automatically add the template into the articles rather than manually edit every page. Thanks for advance, NgYShung huh? 04:20, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To my knowledge, there is not, no, so the only way I know is to add them to each article. SwisterTwister talk 06:22, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is B.W. Powe and his wife writing to you

The changes we have made in the wikipedia entry on me are accurate, authorized, complete, and not to be altered. This is important for the following reasons: 1) I have two books appearing in 2016 2) Links will be made to and from publishers' sites 3) Readers will be searching for authorized material online 4) I am beginning my teaching semester at York University in September; this site must be accurate for students to access 5) I am speaking at the University of Toronto "McLuhan Then and Now" Conference in October. Again my authorized information needs to be on the wikipedia.

Please stop reverting to older information sources. Yours truly, BW Powe August 16th, 2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by B.W. Powe (talkcontribs) 16:29, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@B.W. Powe: Hello, sorry if that bother you as you are really new to Wikipedia, but thanks for talking to me here. Firstly, through your edits, you had added tons of content without any references. The infobox was broken and one of the title was all caps which made the whole article really bad to read because of bad formatting. One of the user who is an admin (Materialscientist) also reverted the edit.
Your reasons you had given are okay, but the real problem was you did not cite any of the content you made and it probably violates Manual of Style. The articles must be appear clean and readable. Though you can make a website and add anything you want without Wikipedia WP:RULES, we will add the website link it to the article! Consider you are a new user, you should read WP:WELCOME, WP:REF and also WP:YOURSELF. Happy editing! NgYShung huh? 06:26, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Sirte (2016)

I saw your warning and thank you for that. I am well aware of the 1RR rule applied to any ISIL-related articles and stopped after I made only 1 revert. However, the other editor that you warned made 2 reverts (contrary to 1RR). I warned him of this and he started making personal attacks (extremely negative attitude) on my talk page, saying I was threatening him and having a bossy attitude (just because I warned him of WP policy on civility, personal attacks, good faith and 1RR). The same editor broke the 1RR rule for ISIL-related articles two times last night and was warned of this by another editor as well but did not take the warning into account at all. He was also warned of not making personal attacks against others once more earlier this month. I ask for your advice or any help that could resolve this situation. EkoGraf (talk) 11:28, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@EkoGraf: Sorry but I'm busy and I can't go through the dispute because it was a bit long (and also not good on judging dispute). I've requested help at WP:DRR so others' user help may come soon. Thanks, NgYShung huh? 11:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Shri Rang Avadhoot Question

Hello, I saw your warning in Shri Rang Avadhoot page. Then, I added a one reference in this page and also delete the {{prod blp/dated}} tag after adding the reference. If there is any wrong step in this editing, please tell me because I'm new user in Wikipedia. Thanks for best support. Jydpseo

@Jydpseo: Thanks for talking to me here! I am greatly appreciate for creating the Shri Rang Avadhoot article. References are very important for verifiability of an article. I accepted your remove on the PROD tag, but you should talk to me first so I can remove the tag (because normally the author of an article should not remove the PROD tag). Since you're new here, here some pages you should read: WP:YFA and WP:CITE. And also remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~). Happy editing! Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jydppatel Question

Hello, How to solve "Sockpuppet investigation"? I see this message on my talk page but i have no idea to solve it. Please help me to solve it. Jydpseo (talk) 10:06, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jydpseo: The "Sockpuppet investigation" means the use of multiple account to mislead, vandalise etc. Don't worry, if you are really sure that you now only have one account, and you did not own the account (which in this case, Jydppatel), the case will be close (if identified you did not own the account by CheckUser) and you won't be judged or banned. You can see WP:SOCK and also this. Thanks for asking, NgYShung huh? 10:18, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Attributing anonymous edits to a registered username

Hi NgYShung do you know if i can attribute the anonymous edits to my userid jibinmathews ? I had made all of them without signing in and well took notice when another wikipedian pointed this out :( According to Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit i need to redirect. I think you can track my id and the username to the same location :) and i think the edits since 2014 attributed to this ip are mine. I have made more edits too from other computers but well i cannot track them down now. I believe we could raise tickets with the developer team till 2005 when it was closed off. 131.188.6.21 (talk) 12:18, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@131.188.6.21:, @Jibinmathews: Hello, thanks for noticing me. Before that, I hope that your main account (User:Jibinmathews) can confirm this to me here (sorry if this may bother you). If you are sure that your IP was static and not used by multiple users, I'll redirect it for you. Thanks! NgYShung huh? 12:52, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly are you going to do, NgYShung? And no, history cannot be modified to change the attribution of edits. --NeilN talk to me 13:04, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi just adding a message from my registered id User talk:jibinmathews. According to the page Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit i think we can redirect the user page and not the history. Earlier i believe the developers could directly change it in the database but now it will be separate pages. Like another wikipedian said , it will be better if i redirect so that the edits made with the ip can be enquired to with my id.Jibinmathews (talk) 13:47, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jibinmathews, that practice was stopped in 2005. IP pages are not redirected to user pages. --NeilN talk to me 15:38, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I don't think the edits done in 2014 and 2015 with the IP above are yours? --NeilN talk to me 15:44, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: I know it was stopped. According to the project page, it says: "If you have a static IP that will not be reused by others, you may redirect your anonymous User: and User Talk: pages to your new account." But after seeing the contributions of the IP, per NeilN, I think the IP may be not static, and only have active contributions for a few days. I think you may check if your IP is dynamic or static here. Thanks, NgYShung huh? 06:28, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN:@NgYShung: ITs ok guys. dont argue over this. its not a few days ,the edits made last year are definitely mine as those articles refer to my hometown and im now almost 10,000 km away from home since 2 years but the ones in 2014 i dont remember making those edits. :O. i will use my registered id from now on. was just too lazy to signin and was just easy to make edits and logout.signing in is a motivation to learn all this. Have a good day.

Dealing with attack pages

Hi. You recently tagged as WP:CSD#A7 a page with a title like "X is a sad ugly boy". Two things about that:

  • For an attack page like that, you should use WP:CSD#G10, which puts the page in a high-priority queue for admin attention, and also blanks it so that the content is no longer visible.
  • Where the victim's name is visible in the title, and particularly where the title is itself an attack, in your messages to the article author it's best not to use templates which repeat the title. {{subst:uw-attack}} is the best one to use and does not leave the victim's name visible.

A new user who starts off with an attack page is unlikely to be a useful contributor, and I myself would not bother with a "welcome" message - just uw-attack. In this case, I have fixed the attacker's talk page so that his victim's name is no longer visible - just letting you know for next time. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 08:53, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I will take note next time. Thanks, NgYShung huh? 08:55, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Home Credit Philippines article

Hello Ng!

Thank you for the warm welcome to Wikipedia. I'm still quite new, so there are many things still to explore and learn, but I am having a very good time in taking everything all in. :)

I just wanted to make a gentle clarification regarding the removal of the article I had created: Home Credit Philippines. I do understand the Wikipedia rules regarding encyclopedic writing, so I very much strived to be as factual and as objective as possible in developing the article, including quoting reputable sources (mainly top-tier media outlets from our country), and making sure that the content itself is non-subjective. If you still have access to that draft (not sure if it is possible), you will see that the sections of the article-- general overview, history of the company, information about the product and partners-- are all quite objective and non-hard sell.

In fact, I used the Wiki pages of some of Home Credit's partners-- such as OPPO and Samsung, both of which were hyperlinked in my article draft-- as a benchmark, since their pages are still very much approved and existing on Wikipedia. :)

Hope you can shed some light on this, and appreciate any advice you might have to help the next draft be more Wikipedia-worthy.

Thanks again!

Warm regards,

Jbmangahas (talk) 01:07, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for commenting here. Just some advice here, you should read WP:YFA as a start-up. The article you created contains advertising content which is not allowed in Wikipedia. And you should not copy content from another website as it violates the website owner's copyright and normally contains soapboxing content. If you want to get the article back (which in this case Home Credit Philippines), you can ask for an undeletion but you need to delete the soapbox content. I hope you enjoy at Wikipedia! Happy editing, NgYShung huh? 07:05, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply, Ng! To clarify, I did not copy content from another website-- neither the media articles that have been cited as sources, nor the OPPO and Samsung wikipedia entries that I had mentioned. The Home Credit Philippines article contains all original content, with media citations to verify the accuracy of the information provided. thanks!

Propose renaming articles?

Is there anything similar like Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2016 July 11#Rivers but it is for articles? Like propose renaming article. Article is only for deletion but WP:ATD doesn't fit. Thanks for advance, NgYShung huh? 11:41, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Try WP:Requested moves and the linked pages. Huon (talk) 11:57, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Malaysia September 2016 Newsletter

Wikipedia Malaysia

Hi,

Thanks for that announcement on the WikiProject Malaysia thing. I've been also trying to revive Malaysia Wikipedia, because it has not been active compared to other countries' Wikipedia. I've made two Wikipedia Meetups recently (Wikipedia:Meetup/Johor 1 and Wikipedia:Meetup/Kuala Lumpur 1), and also take a lot of photos in Malaysia in Wikimedia Commons. There are just so many things need to be done for Wikipedia Malaysia. Chongkian (talk) 00:43, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: Well, let's make it active again! Still I hope that we can bring back the old WikiProject. I retouched everything in the WikiProject pages and subpages so yeah! :) Maybe go invite some active Malaysian user or user who actively work on Malaysia-associated articles, let's make our dreams come true. Cheers, NgYShung huh? 06:58, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And also Happy Malaysia Independence day! NgYShung huh? 07:01, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And also try to join this Wikipedia:Meetup/Malaysia page (can put your name there in the list), in which we discuss all of the upcoming meetup. We plan to make another one soon, probably in Selangor. And also not only the English one, we are trying to make the Malay-speaking meetup as well, to heavily improve the ms.wikipedia which is still lagging behind. ~ Happy Merdeka! Removed your tag

We are not mind readers and this sort of tagging waists a lot of our time trying to suss-out what drive-by taggers are thinking. Please read: Wikipedia:Responsible tagging--Aspro (talk) 12:37, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
