golden globes guests

whos allowed into the golden globes besides publicists and media?68.151.25.115 (talk) 05:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing nominees and their guests, plus anybody with $17,500 to spare (this year) (this year six years ago). Clarityfiend (talk) 23:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That was in 2011.--Shantavira|feed me 09:25, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ahem. Fast forward five years, and this site claimed in 2016 that it's by invitation only.[1] Clarityfiend (talk) 09:02, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bhagam Bhag 2006 Hindi

1. The commissioner shot Vikram in Self-Defense, so why does Commissioner get Arrested in the End of the Movie?

2. Will the Commissioner still have to do Jail Time why?(73.220.163.13 (talk) 08:01, 10 January 2017 (UTC)).[reply]

It happened because the writer wanted it to happen that way. As it is fictional, no-one will go to jail. Wymspen (talk) 18:10, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is one sort of answer, but 73.220 may have been intending to ask for an answer within the scope of the fiction. In other words, does this movie (I assume it's a movie) establish a reason why the commissioner is arrested, and does it imply that the commissioner will go to jail? I have no idea; I don't watch Hindi movies; but the question is not unreasonable. --69.159.60.210 (talk) 22:55, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I get it, and well put. But we do have also have users who seem to think that such questions about fiction are unanswerable, merely because "a wizard did it" is always a potential, though unhelpful response. SemanticMantis (talk) 21:38, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I believe such questions cannot be answered, and the reasoning is much deeper than suggested. There are two perspectives on any film - that of the team which made it, and that of the viewer. The writers may have based their story on an accurate understanding of Indian law - or they may just have thought that it made a more dramatic ending to have him arrested, and then leave the viewers to try and understand what happened. It may therefore mean that the writers themselves did not know why it happened, or what would have happened next. Then, from the viewer's perspective, it is up to the individual to arrive at their own understanding. Is that how the law does work, or should work, or is it a commentary on the corruption or inefficiency of the system? Do you, as a viewer, think he should go to jail, or is this a grave injustice? There is no right answer - you have to reach your own conclusions. The only really valid answer to the original question is, "I don't know - what do you think having watched the film?" Article/DAB request

I would like to request a disambiguous page for "Detroit Steel." There is a new tv series coming to History Channel as well as a comic book, but there is only a page for the comic.

Thank you. Kristin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristinroyer (talkcontribs) 16:55, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For convenience, our article is at Detroit Steel, and Detroit Steel (TV series) and Detroit Steel (comic book) would be the likely new titles.
A disambig page would make most sense if we already had a page for a show. That being said, you can make a DAB page right now if you'd like, see info at Wikipedia:Disambiguation. You could also make an article for the show: be WP:BOLD! Another option is to post at Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation. Finally, while it's not really a problem, this probably isn't the best place for this type of request, either AfC above or WP:Village pump would be better for similar requests in the future. Also I put this question in it's own section, that will happen automatically if you use the button at the top of this page. SemanticMantis (talk) 19:13, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Is there a reason why European soccer teams and supporters don't take the FIFA Club World Cup seriously? They seem to think that the Champions League is the ultimate prize. Teams from other continents seem to value the Club World Cup more than the European clubs. Why is this the case? Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 21:02, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Should anything emanating from FFA be taken seriously? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots21:38, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Baseball Bugs: Good one! On the other hand, the FIFA World Cup is the most popular sporting event in the world (in terms of viewership)! Now that their disgraced former president and staff have been given the boot, I think that we can begin to trust them more! Regards, Jith12 (talk) 22:23, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Viewership counting is one of the honesty issues with the old staff. Depending on the day, they reported random numbers between 1 billion and 3 billion as the viewership of the World Cup. Then, to justify the numbers, they would say that anyone who happened to see the broadcast as they walked past a television must count as a viewer. Better analysis puts viewership between 200 and 300 million people - depending on the definition of a "viewer". I went through a lot of that discrepancy recently when doing a report that included television usage. 209.149.113.5 (talk) 19:26, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Quite a thorough analysis of your question here - http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2014/12/12/6987312/why-does-the-club-world-cup-still-struggle-for-relevance Wymspen (talk) 22:49, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Wymspen: Hi! When I open the link that you provided, I am redirected to http://www.sportingnews.com/soccer?utm_source=Goal&utm_medium=Redirect&utm_campaign=Canada. Try http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/7711/club-world-cup/2014/12/12/7018182/why-does-the-club-world-cup-still-struggle-for-relevance Alansplodge (talk)
Yes - that is the same article. Clearly the internet is not as international as it is thought to be.but I don't have the IT skills to understand why it does things like that. Wymspen (talk) 09:44, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Did it work? Alansplodge (talk) 11:08, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Alansplodge: Hi! The link still doesn't work. I tried putting the link into the Wayback Machine and it had some archives of the page. However, the archives redirected me to the live version of [2]. Is there any other way to view the link? Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 20:43, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What type of 3D glasses would I need to view this image?

I was wondering about different types of 3D glasses. I don't like the color distortion caused by wearing red-cyan glasses, but I wanted a way to view 3D images on my computer or non-3D television. I was intrigued when I heard about row-interleaved 3D, but I didn't know what kind of glasses I would need to view images such as this one. Can these images be viewed with some type of passive 3D glasses? 98.18.147.106 (talk) 00:57, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On the previous gallery page that image is on, it advises using Liquid Crystal Shutter (LCS) glasses or some Head Mounted Displays to view the 3D row-interleaved GIF format. --Canley (talk) 23:46, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You could use passive 3D glasses if you had a 3D monitor or 3D TV supporting such passive 3D glasses. (Normally because the display itself has row interleaved polarisation.) Nil Einne (talk) 15:34, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since we don't have an article or redirect, (passive 3D glasses) here's a source: "What Are the Different Types of 3D Glasses?". Lifewire. --2606:A000:4C0C:E200:C03A:9D20:31EF:82F7 (talk) 19:06, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Poker Set

What is a "Poker Set"? I've just found some information about the most expensive "Poker Set" and I wonder what is that. Is that used for playing Poker? —  Ark25  (talk) 11:49, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's a case containing poker equipment (playing cards, poker chips, dealer button). ---Sluzzelin talk 12:03, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Funny. Depending on how many chips there are of each denomination, their face value is somewhere around the actual cost ($7.5 million) of the set. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:27, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've made the redirect - Poker set to Poker equipment. —  Ark25  (talk) 09:42, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help identify a song from half remembered lyric

Resolved

I am trying to identify a song.; it's probably from the 1940s/1950s (judging by the age of the lady who used to sing it when she was doing the housework). The only thing that I can remember is one line "like a pack of hungry wolves on parade". It's probably a long shom but maybe somebody in wikipedialand will recognise this line. Thanks! --TrogWoolley (talk) 16:42, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently one Colin Everett used to sing a song that included the line
On through the hail, like a pack of hungry wolves on the trail, we are after you...
You'll find the full lyric here (p. 36), together with the claim (p. 1) that Everett wrote the lyrics. It looks like he came along too late to be singing in the 40s or 50s, but I'm not sure he is the author at all. It looks like the same song, or part of it, was sung on a Goon Show in 1956 to the tune of the Song of the Mounties from Rose Marie. Does any of this sound familiar? --Antiquary (talk) 19:10, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Correction: the song I've been talking about actually is The Song of the Mounties from Rose Marie. If only the speakers on my computer worked my YouTube link would have told me that. --Antiquary (talk) 19:29, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much everybody. It is indeed The Song Of The Mounties, as sung by Nelson Eddy. The lady concerned used to sing The Indian Love Call too - Rose Marie might well have been her favourite film. --TrogWoolley (talk) 12:41, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discontinued series with cliff hangers endings

I mean it can be all of entertainment.

I for one I still don't just get it why this happens more and more over this past decade and half. With the advent of beyond either of of competition, copykat, and reality tv. Especially, I'm referring to ones that beyond either got cancelled for network having lack of money (in all forms of it) and exces of the network not liking it for whatever reason.--Jessica A Bruno (waybeyondfedup) 03:03, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
