Jim Carrey: ADHD (Hyperactivity. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Bold text Tuesday, January 5, 2016--7:05 am CST

Yall forgot to mention Jim Carrey's ADHD (Hyperactivity, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Jim Carrey suffered depression as well as ADHD.

                                    Sincerely,
                                    Terry Marvin (Dallas, Texas, USA)

February 17th 1997 Oprah Interview sourced

The section in "Beliefs" regarding the quote where Jim Carrey explains to Oprah how he visualized 10 million dollars was previously without a citation. I cited it with a video on Oprah.com showing footage from this episode and also added the exact date to the article which was February 17th 1990, as confirmed by the video.

Edit request: "Now professes to be a Christian" claim not in source cited

Currently, the last sentence of the "Beliefs" section (i.e., "He now professes to be a Christian.") is misleading and is not supported by the source cited. I read the cited article and watched the entire video it is supposed to be based on, and at no point in either one did Carrey "profess to be a Christian". He merely spoke about choosing forgiveness in the face of suffering, using some vaguely Christian language in the context of a talk he was giving to a Christian charity. Nothing he said in the talk ("Every cell in your body is God," etc.) in any way contradicted his past statements about his spiritual beliefs, which are well known to be quite eclectic and by no means distinctly Christian.

I am assuming the person who added that statement meant well but was confused by the cited article's headline (which is from an evangelical Christian news outlet and is itself very misleading), but even taken at face value the cited text as a whole does not really support the "professes to be a Christian" claim. I would suggest removing that sentence along with its problematic source and replacing it with something like:

"Carrey was raised Roman Catholic.[1] As an adult his spiritual beliefs became more eclectic, drawing from a variety of sources including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Transcendental Meditation, and the ideas of Eckhart Tolle.[2][3][4][5]"

This could actually replace the entire last paragraph of the "Beliefs" section, as it incorporates the mention of Transcendental Meditation from the previous sentence.

Partly done: You're correct that the last sentence fails verification for the reasons stated. I removed that sentence but I did not add the suggested text as it seems to come too close to synthesis. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 22:51, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"2007, continued success" but no actual success since 2014

The table of contents breaks his career down into segments, the last of which is "2007 to present, continued success." That covers 10+ years as of now. It is early 2018 as I post this section.

It seems rather promotional in wording, considering that Carrey's career seems to have slowed down quite a bit after 2009, which is 8+ years ago. His last film that could be considered a success (Dumb and Dumber To) came out in 2014, 3+ years ago.

Perhaps this section was created circa 2008-2010 when it seemed to be true, but at this point, it feels like it was written by Carrey's agent. I suggest further dividing it into something like "2007-2014, continued success" and "2015-present, fewer high profile projects" (not sure on wording).

[Comment from another user] FWIW, I agree this section heading should be changed so it's more NPOV, but I think providing words after the dates is unnecessary and inappropriate, unless one or more significant events happen in the future. I think the section should just say "2007 - present" or "Projects after 2007".EvidenceFairy (talk) 06:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Carrey falsely accused of giving White STDS.

[1] states that the "Through discovery, Boucher came to the conclusion that a 2011 document showing White had clean test results prior to meeting Carrey was a forgery." The section on Jim Carrey showing that he had tested positive on STDs should be removed or updated due to the section implies that Jim Carrey had infected white with four stds.

[2] Implies that Carrey was falsely accused.

[3] "Jim Carrey has been cleared of playing a part in his ex-lover’s suicide after his lawyer proved she tried to blackmail him with faked STD results."

According to the motion in Los Angeles, White altered her friend’s Planned Parenthood files to trick Carrey into believing that she did not have STDs before meeting him. Using a 2013 negative test result from her friend, White allegedly backdated the form to 2011 and presented the form to Carrey as her own. is a direct reference from [4]

According to Following the dismissal of the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Carrey confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter the matters were dismissed on January 25, but had no comment to make beyond saying 'Jim is looking forward to moving on with his life now'. [5]

Semi-protected edit request on 18 February 2018

As of 1/20/2018, Jim Carrey has been cleared in White's death and "White's medical record and STD test results were recently found to be forged: White had changed the details of a friend's clean 2011 test to suggest she had been infected only after beginning a relationship with Carrey." [1] Hopebox1982 (talk) 08:02, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: Carrey was not "cleared" as this was a civil suit that was dismissed, not a legal exoneration. The date of the suit's dismissal and a mention of the lack of further proceedings was added with better sources but the suggestion of fraud was not due to WP:BLP concerns. Thank you.
