Root cause of death

While the Coroner, Police and other "legal" entities have resorted to the use of "technically correct but misleading..." type of language, frequently used to hide facts or avoid legal fights and strong discussions, the true cause or "Root Cause" of the death that finally produced the asphyxia was: the actor was pressed against the pillar by his own vehicle. But, why do a person commit the mistake of leaving a vehicle unattended and free to roll by itself? In this case, in addition to the fatal error committed by the actor himself, there is the aggravating fact ("contributing cause") that the newer design of the selector mechanism of the vehicle is not as error-proof as the older, time proven design. The "new" design used by Fiat-Chrysler in this Jeep, consists of a simpler stick that has no mechanical detents to select, but only two electrical switches that command a gear change in either of two directions. While the transmission still uses the traditional, universally known "PRNDL" pattern of selections, the stick only changes the selected position to the next one in either direction, but without giving any tactile or positional feedback to the driver. In the old, proven design, even a blind person can easily feel the position of the stick, and know if it is properly locked in "PARK" by feel only, whether the "new" design requires that the driver takes his/her sight away from the road in order to look directly to the small indicator light or illuminated letter that designates the position of the selector. If the driver just tries to put the transmission by moving the stick a given number of times without looking to check the selected position or gear, he/she can leave the selector in a different position and not in the safe and secure "PARK" selection before stepping down from the vehicle. This new selector design lacks the positional/tactile feedback of the previous one, and is prone to be left at a different selection from the one intended by the driver. Most drivers forget to apply the parking brake too, and in adverse conditions (slippery soil), one of the wheels can slide over the terrain even when in "PARK", and the vehicle can move, but under normal conditions, the adherence of the tires to the pavement or terrain will be enough to keep the vehicle stationary. While attorneys can put the entire blame on the deceased actor, it is a matter of time before another person leaves the transmission out of the safe "PARK" position and believing the vehicle is safely parked. Tis design is an accident waiting to happen again and again, and no matter how big are the fonts used in the Owner's manual or how many time it is said in the manual, the design is not as safe and "fool-proof" as the older one, and needs to be reestablished to prevent more accidents. This is not a case of equipment malfunction, but clearly a bad design that placed "novelty" above function, and went approved without enough ergonomic testing and evaluation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.100.180.17 (talk) 21:18, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bolding

Ahhh, why all the bolding, wiki practice usually just bolds the name of the page. I am going to go ahead and unbold all this and revert. --Geppy 05:36, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why was the bit about his band taken out? He is, in fact, in the LA band called The Hammerheads. Also, why is none of the adding/deleting of it recorded in the history? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.27.35.230 (talk) 03:34, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date

A few web sites say he was born on June 23 (though these are the minority), while most say he was born March 11, as ours does. Does anyone know for sure? Mad Jack O'Lantern 04:56, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

March 11 is correct; he and I attend the same school. Trumpetboy8282 23:56, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He is now 23 as of 11th March 2012. This should be updated to reflect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.97.155.5 (talk) 20:01, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

the practice

i believe he was in early season 7 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.204.195.89 (talk) 21:03, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criminal Minds

He was in an episode about two or three weeks back. I just figured whoever runs this page might want to update. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.225.47.131 (talk) 10:34, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Olympic qualification"?

I have seen many newspapers repeat that his parents qualified for the 1972 Olympics, but were not allowed to go. Does anyone know how they were to have qualified? The Soviet Olympic pairs team in '72 was very deep: they won two medals and the third place team (who were the Soviet national champions) placed 6th. I have not seen his parents names on any results list from that period. Does anyone have more information or is this just senior-level pair skaters claiming they were competitive for Olympic spots, when they were actually not in the running for the team at all?

This is not to say that Soviet Jewish athletes were not left behind, this is simply a question if this is a true claim. We see many times in every country that high-level athletes claim that they were competing for a spot on the Olympic team, even though they were not, and then blame the fact that they did not qualify on some external factor. In the US, this is sometimes called playing the race card. Is that the case here? Again, I am sure his parents were great professional skaters. But I would like proof they were in contention for the Olympic team other than that they said they were. 70.17.188.131 (talk) 20:18, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 1989 L.A. Times article cited (citation #1) states "In 1972, as the nationally third-ranked pair team, they qualified for the Olympics but were not permitted to go because of their religion". Would adding their ranking to the article help explain it? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 20:34, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's unclear how the L.A. Times came up with that ranking. Ludmila Belousova / Oleg Protopopov were the Soviet national bronze medalists that year, not Yelchin's parents. What is the L.A. Times' "nationally third-ranked" statement based on? Hergilei (talk) 05:14, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section

I think the Lead section went into too much detail regarding the actor's film appearances. I have edited the section accordingly and this information is available in the body of the article for interested readers.--Soulparadox 15:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

2 questions.

Greetings:

1. Why is the title of the "Tributes" section different from the other titles?
2. How does an "American dub" differ from an "English dub"? Is a different accent used?
