Sukirti Kandpal (born 20 November 1987) is an Indian television actress. She is known for her roles as Dr Riddhima Gupta in Dill Mill Gayye opposite Karan Singh Grover, as Piya Dobrial in Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani opposite Vivian Dsena on Star One and Debjani Thakur in Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls (2015) opposite Aamir Ali. In 2014 she was seen in Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai... Ajab Sa Risk Hai. She was also seen as a contestant on Bigg Boss 8.[3] In 2017, she was seen as lead in Zee TV's show Kaala Teeka season-2.[4]

Early life & education

Kandpal was born in Nainital, Uttarakhand to Mr. B. D. Kandpal (former President, Uttarakhand Bar Association[5] and Deputy Advocate General of Uttarakhand High Court[6]) and Mrs. Manju Kandpal. She has two siblings, an elder sister Bhavna Kandpal[7] and a younger brother Manjul Kandpal.[8] During her growing up days, Sukirti wanted to pursue law as her father was a public prosecutor.[9]

Kandpal attended St. Mary's Convent High School, Nainital[10] and Sophia College for Women,[11] Mumbai.

Career

2007 – 2009 & Dill Mill Gayye

Kandpal started her television career at the age of 19[12] with Jersey No. 10 on Sab TV in 2007[13] which was an Indian adaptation of popular American show One Tree Hill. She was with friends at a coffee shop, when a creative director with Cinevistaas Limited spotted her and asked her to meet him later for an audition, and was selected.[14] Later in 2008, she replaced Shilpa Anand as Dr. Riddhima Gupta in the show Dill Mill Gayye[15] which became a turning point in her career.[16] In 2009, she was also seen in official music video of song Teri Yaad Mein by Kailash Kher from the album Chaandan Mein.[17]

2010 – 2011 & Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani

In early 2010, She appeared as Siddheshwari Singh in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo and also had a small cameo appearance in film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010).[18] Later in 2010, she played a double role in Balaji Telefilms' supernatural romance Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani opposite Vivian Dsena. The show was inspired from The Vampire Diaries[19] and Twilight Saga [20] and gave her fame and recognition.[21]

2012 – 2017 & Desi Explorers Web Series

After playing lead in three shows, she took a break[22] and made a comeback in 2012 with the role of Jazz in Rab Se Sona Ishq.[23] She went on to play four different persons with same face (Clones) in Life OK's Hum Ne Li Hai...Shapath's special episode "Mystery Of Clones"[24] and later returned in a role of a run-away criminal for another episodic in the same show.[25] She also co-hosted a special episode based on harassment on girls in crime based television series Gumrah: End of Innocence on Channel V & Star Plus[26] and later also made an appearance in the same show as the protagonist, a college girl Tanvi, in an episode based on consequences of an open relationship.[27]

In 2013, she played lead role of Simran in Kaisa Ye Ishq Hai..ajab sa risk hai on Life OK.[28] The show returned with a season-2 as well.[29] She had played a Non resident Indian (NRI) character in Rab Se Sona Ishq and she again portrayed an NRI character in Kaisa Ye Ishq Hai..ajab sa risk hai. Parts of Rab Se Sona Ishq were shot in London[30] and Kaisa Ye Ishq Hai..ajab sa risk hai in Singapore.[31] Besides doing many fiction shows, she has been part of many reality shows too. In 2014, she appeared as a contestant in Bigg Boss 8. In 2015, she played a journalist, Debjani Thakur in &TV's Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls[32] which was one of the most popular shows on television in 2015.[33] Show was inspired from Anuja Chauhan's novel Those Pricey Thakur Gurls and was shot in key locations in Delhi.[34] In 2016, she was part of a travel-centered web series called Desi Explorers as host. She was also seen in episode "Grahan" of &TV's horror fiction show Darr Sabko Lagta Hai and as a haryanvi girl Rajjo in Zee TV's Tashan-E-Ishq.[35] In 2017, She made a comeback to fiction in season-2 of Zee TV's Kaala Teeka as Naina Yug Choudhary.

Kandpal has appeared in advertisements and TVCs for PC Chandra Jewellers Goldlite collection[36][37], Hyundai 4S Fluidic Verna- The World Sedan[38], Dove shampoo[39], Shahnaz Husain's Fair One Cream[40], Margo Neem Face wash[41] etc.

In the media

She was included in Eastern Eye's list of the top 50 sexiest Asian women in 2014,[42] 2015[43], 2016[44] and 2017.[45][46] An Indian lifestyle website for men, MensXP.com listed her among "35 Hottest Actresses In Indian Television".[47] In 2016, MissMalini.com listed her among "28 Sexiest Hindi Television Actresses".[48] She was ranked 20 in Television Personality 2015 poll by Sabras Radio for her show Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls.[49] She is a regular face of annual Telly Calendar featuring popular television actresses by Marinating Films and Balaji Telefilms and has been part of its all six editions till 2017.[50][51][52][53][54]

She is described as risk taker and experimental with her role choices.[55] She was awarded with Aadhi Aabadi Women Achievers award in 2013 along with 18 other Indian women for her outstanding contribution in her field.[56]

In Beauty Pageants

She represented India (as Miss India Worldwide India) in Miss India Worldwide contest 2011 held in Dubai, won the title Miss Bollywood Diva and was one of the Top ten contenders among the participants spanning over 30 countries.[57][58] In 2016, She was one of the judges to Mrs. India Dubai International Beauty Pageant 2016, held in Dubai.[59]
