Dhadak (transl. Heartbeat; Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪əʱɽək]) is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language musical tragic romance film directed by Shashank Khaitan, produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios and stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles. The film is a remake of the 2016 Marathi language film Sairat.[1][2] It was released worldwide on 20 July 2018.

Plot

The story is a take on caste differences prevalent in Indian society. It is an official remake of the critically acclaimed Marathi film Sairat.

Production

The film was announced when the producer of the film, Karan Johar unveiled three posters of the movie on 15 November 2017. He released another poster on the next day.[4] The principal photography started on 1 December 2017 in Udaipur.[5] The trailer was released on 11 June 2018.[6]

Release

The film was scheduled to release on 6 July 2018, but was postponed.[7] The film was released on 20 July 2018 in India and overseas.[8]

Reception

Dhadak received mostly positive to mixed reviews.[9]

The music of the film is composed by Ajay−Atul while the lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The background score is composed by John Stewart Eduri. The first song of the film, Dhadak (Title Track) which is sung by Ajay Gogavale and Shreya Ghoshal was released on 20 June 2018. The second song, Zingaat and the third song, Pehli Baar have been recreated from Sairat and were released on 28 June 2018 and 5 July 2018 respectively. The music album of the film was released by Zee Music Company on 11 July 2018.
