Potential disambiguation?

Hello R96Skinner. I write in regards to the entry you created for "Franco Costa". I was trying to translate the Franco Costa page on Wikipedia Germany (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Costa) and this seems to be linked to Franco Lautaro Costa instead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Costa).

Do you know how we could solve the disambiguation?

Thanks SamuelCosta (talk) 17:42, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about 2014 Belgian Super Cup

Hello, R96Skinner,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether 2014 Belgian Super Cup should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2014 Belgian Super Cup .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

BSL 2016

Hello sir, may I express my sincere gratitude for creating and updating the article 2016 Brunei Super League. It's only a small league in a small country and the FA are in shambles and they just won't update their site with even the current tables, so the wiki page is gonna be only one of the very few sources for the league's info online.

I still can't get my head around the Tabuan Muda teams. The current one playing in the BSL are the U21s as stated explicitly by various sources, and the U15s last year became the U17s and replaced the U18s in the BPL. And from what I heard the U18s last year aren't gonna play in the 2016 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. かぴさん Kapisan (talk) 02:56, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! No worries, don't mention it! Thank you the kind words.

I enjoy learning about the lesser known leagues and realised the BSL 2016 article hadn't been created yet despite the season starting recently so thought I'd help out and create it. It was difficult to find some of the information, for example I couldn't see why so many matches involving Indera and Kasuka have been postponed since the abandoned match between them two. Hope I did the league justice though.

Indeed, the Tabuan Muda teams are odd. I could find information for the Premier League team, but a little less on the Super League team. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi there R96S, from Portugal,

deal must have been upgraded (for lack of a better word) or something. I swear to you the La Voz de Galicia reference said he had signed a permanent contract with Deportivo (i.e. "...llega en propiedad hasta 2020", meaning roughly "...property of the club until 2020"). However, the source you now showed me indeed has developments (from 12 JULY, as opposed to mine from five days earlier), I have made the due amendments in article.

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Fabio Álvarez

Hi R96Skinner. This player's real name is Favio [1]. Greetings, --186.19.217.1 (talk) 23:45, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the message. I'm not 100% sure which is correct. Most English speaking reliable sources I've seen call him Fabio (e.g. Soccerway), whereas a few non-English speaking sources (e.g. Tucuman's players profiles) name him as Favio. Just look at Tucuman's official Twitter account. On 11 October, they called him Favio [2]. On 15 October, they call him Fabio [3]. Confusing! Do you have any other reliable sources 186.19.217.1? 2018 Club Atlético River Plate season

Hi, FerchuJenson!

I saw you created the 2018 Club Atlético River Plate season article. Why is this? League seasons are based on the league calendar, so for the Argentine Primera División clubs it is 2017–18; which River Plate already has a season article for (see: 2017–18 Club Atlético River Plate season). Am I missing something?

Thanks, R96Skinner (talk) 04:31, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The main problem is that, while AFA (Argentina Football Asociation) first division tournament is being played from August 2017 to May 2018, CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation, to which AFA is asociated) has scheduled its tournaments from January to December since January 2017 (being the main Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, the South American equivalents to UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League). For that reason, not considering a "2018 Season" for an Argentine team would imply having the main continental competition split in two different seasons). On the other hand, the "2018 Season" article has the domestic league starting from round 13. Clearly, the main reason for this seems to be the lack of coordination between CONMEBOL and its associated national entities. However, some media is suggesting that AFA is going to adapt the Jan-Dec calendar in order to be synchronized with CONMEBOL. (https://www.ole.com.ar/futbol-primera/torneos-cortos-vuelta-superliga-formato-futbol-argentino_0_1935406460.html) (the source is in spanish, is an article from the web page of the main sports newspaper of Argentina. FerchuJenson (talk) 04:47, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If a decision is going to be made, I would like to know, because I'm planning to create missing articles from former seasons, and the problem with Jan-Dec CONMEBOL and Jul-Jun AFA is going to reappear. And to make things worse, Argentina Top division has had Jan-Dec tournaments in 2015, half season tournaments and CONMEBOL has had Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League) from January to June/July/August (from the 90s to 2016) and Copa Sudamericana (South American equivalent to UEFA Europa League) from August to December (2002-2016). FerchuJenson (talk) 04:57, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with any decision taken. Perhaps I shouldn'n have spent much time on an article without being sure that it was not going to be asked for deletion, but that's just my fault. So, for the future, if I'm going to create articles of former seasons, you mean that I should just consider the season of the national league instead of the international competitions? That's a good starting point. My reasoning had been "Continental entity is more important that national entity, so I should organize based on the first." But I will do the opossite if that's what the admins consider best. Just remember to notify me when the decision is made.FerchuJenson (talk) 06:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by FerchuJenson (talkcontribs)

Just happened to check your user page, and saw that you created a lot of articles of 2017-18 seasons of teams from Argentina (including River Plate 2017-18 season), so I guess I was talking with someone who had worked a lot on it. As far as I'm concerned, it's ok to let the seasons as they are, but keep in mind that continental competitions will be split in two diferent articles (as they take part in two different Jul-Jun seasons). That's what happened with 2017 Copa Libertadores, when you go to the article, you just find half of the matches played. So neither 2016-17 nor 2017-18 will feature the totality of the games player by the team on Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana. To finish, I wanted to congratulate you for your work on Argentinian teams season articles.FerchuJenson (talk) 07:11, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Your edits on the 2018 article are good, can tell you have put work into it; just at the incorrect moment. Yeah, as I mentioned, it isn't ideal but I think it's the best way to do it all things considered. R96Skinner (talk) 08:26, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Agustin Gómez has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails NFOOTY as has not played or managed senior international football nor played or managed in a fully professional league, his sole appearance in the Sedish cup was not in a match involving two teams from fully professional leagues. No indication that subject has garnered significant reliable coverage for any other achievements to satisfy GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Scott McTominay

Because it’s a nothing award made up by the club because they wanted to give McTominay something. They couldn’t give him Reserve Player of the Year because he hardly plays in the reserves any more, and he was never going to win any other award. IMO, if this “award” is ever given again, I’ll be very surprised. – PeeJay 22:37, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your requested moves at WP:RM/TR

Hi. You might have missed a relevant bit of information about the 2013 Supercopa Argentina page et al: it is related to 2012–13 Copa Argentina and 2012–13 Argentine Primera División season, both being concluded in (and mostly about) 2013, so the fact that it eventually took place in early 2014 shouldn't really matter much in the article naming. -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:23, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, i had no idea you already asked about this issue before. Guess there are not enough Argentinian wikipedians in that WikiProject Football... :-| Fwiw, i already posted at WP:RM/TR, because i didn't know how to just delay the three current ones. -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:44, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can't find a reliable source, but at least i found this informal image that clarifies that Supercopa Argentina 2016 is what took place in Feb 2017. And, yes, i guess the relevant Supercopa Argentina pages might be good places to notify. Or we could wait for the contributors to notice the moved page and protest. :-) -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:57, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Argentinian football and volleyball players new pages

Hey R96Skinner, please if you can create pages for Argentinian football players Matías Orihuela, Israel Coll and Sebastián Caballero. Also, if you can please, create a page for Argentinian volleyball player Edgardo Lioca. Thanks a lot!

Erm, sure - I'll add them to my to-do list; except the vollyball player Edgardo Lioca, I don't know enough about VB to create it - sorry. Not that one is needed, as the footballers are all notable, but I'm curious, any particular reason? I assume that it's due to them playing in Greek football? P.S. Don't forget to use four tildes (~) to sign your posts, it's a good way for users to know who is who! :) R96Skinner (talk) 20:17, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, R96Skinner! Yes, because they play in Greek football and it's good here to people know them. Lioca plays for AEK V.C. (http://www.volleyball-movies.net/edgardo-lioca-p2799). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E191:AC47:BB6D:BA88 (talk) 15:51, 19 September 2018 (UTC) Also, Sebastián Caballero plays for Volos N.F.C.[reply]

No problem! I've created the three footballers. As for the volleyball player, it'll probably be best to request the article's creation over at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Sports for someone more in the know. Or you could give it a try yourself? Wikipedia:Your first article would be a place to start, if needed. R96Skinner (talk) 18:38, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for everything! You edit pages only for Argentinian footballers? Maybe, can you edit about good Greek players that they are very talented, or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E4BD:EDC7:33D2:17CE (talk) 19:40, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, at this pages: AEK B.C. and AEK Women's Volleyball Club the emblem have changed. At AEK Women's Volleyball Club the emblem is the same like AEK V.C. and at AEK B.C. the emblem have changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E4BD:EDC7:33D2:17CE (talk) 19:44, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, I reverted your edit on Sebastián Caballero because he has been there since 2017 (according to Soccerway) so his amount of appearances isn't known. Is there any Greek statistical websites you know of? R96Skinner (talk) 23:13, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you edit the names of the teams Apollon Smyrni F.C. and Asteras Tripoli F.C.? The right names are Apollon Smyrnis F.C. and Asteras Tripolis F.C., as you can see in the emblem of the team. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:481F:87B4:AA1A:E452 (talk) 08:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they are named as such due to WP:COMMONNAME - it is (I assume) their most common used name in English-speaking sources. I don't necessarily agree with doing it like that, but it's the way it is. You could create a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, see if others agree. 13:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Luis Salces is on loan at Apollon Smyrnis. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:F0CB:182A:42C6:3185 (talk) 07:44, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yeah I did see that via the Sport 24 article, but Soccerway states it's a permanent deal. From what I found in reliable sources, it was 1v1 so decided to side with the more reliable, for Wikipedia at least, source which is Soccerway. Have you found any articles that would class as a reliable source which states it's a loan deal? R96Skinner (talk) 11:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am 100% he is on loan on a two-year loan deal with opsion in the summer of 2020.
