The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

    Graphist opinion(s)

@RainbowSilver2ndBackup: This is a huge request, so I wouldn't be surprised if all of this doesn't get done. I will be adding files as they get done. Pbroks13 (talk) 04:46, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pbroks13, out of curiosity, what exactly is the benefit to making these all vector graphics, especially considering these are fair use images and should never be rendered at a resolution higher than the PNG images anyway. I don't want you to waste your time doing something that will be marginally beneficial to the project. Mz7 (talk) 09:38, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mz7: The only upside is that copyright laws are very clear in some areas and very unclear in others, such as what exactly constitutes a low resolution. For example, 300x300 images were pretty big back when most monitors displayed at 640x480 and would not have been considered low resolution, so fair-use images had to be much smaller. Now, of course, 300x300 is standard low resolution. As the definition of low resolution changes, SVG files do not have to be re-uploaded to fit that definition.
Now, I will not be devoting much time to vectoring these logos by hand, unless the logo looks particularly simple to recreate. I have been searching for pdf files containing the svg versions of these images, extracting them, and uploading them here. Pbroks13 (talk) 14:24, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pbroks13, gotcha. I don’t mean to diminish the importance of your overall work in this area – I’m sure it’s a rather thankless job. So thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Mz7 (talk) 18:52, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mz7: No worries, I didn't take it any kind of way like that. I appreciate the kind words! Pbroks13 (talk) 14:56, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbroks13: Found this from the now closed Singapore 2010 website and this too. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 04:04, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@RainbowSilver2ndBackup: I will be taking a break for the holidays, so it will be a few days until I get to these. Feel free to keep searching and posting them here, it really helps! Pbroks13 (talk) 14:58, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbroks13: When you comeback, can you improve one of the black Fuwa's face to make it non-transparent. If I cant find them, then I'll hire someone to do it. Otherwise, Merry Christmas. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 16:18, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@RainbowSilver2ndBackup: Thank you, I've added the one you linked and fixed the Fuwa's face. Pbroks13 (talk) 16:44, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbroks13: If you can't them the SVG ones from the PDFs, we need back up. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 23:25, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@RainbowSilver2ndBackup: I did extract the SVG from the PDFs. What do you mean? Pbroks13 (talk) 14:56, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant to say was if we can't the rest of the SVGs from the PDFs, we may need backup. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 15:36, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    [png2svg] Arms of Fiji, 1871

Coat of arms of Fiji, Kingdom of Fiji
    Request
Would it be possible for someone to create an SVG version of the above coat of arms of the Kingdom of Fiji from 1871-1874? And for anyone who wants to undertake this, here's an old Fijian coin with said arms on it, in order to provide a better guide to the outline of the image. Thanks. Image's request under progression Request taken by Pbroks13 (talk) 15:57, 3 January 2019 (UTC).[reply]

    @Snow Lion Fenian: Your thoughts? Pbroks13 (talk) 17:55, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbroks13: Very nice work, and thanks for taking the time to do this. Though while we're here, would it be possible to create a colourised SVG image of this alternate version of the 1871 Fijian Arms, as documented on this page here. It would presumably use the same colours as the one above, but obviously with different shapes and size dimensions for the various objects. Also, the page describes the crown in this case as resembling that of Louis XV. Sorry about this, it's just that I don't think it would hurt to have both versions of the Arms on Wikipedia, and I thought I might as well ask while we're still on the subject of it. But if you're not feeling up for it, I will declare this resolved either way. Thanks again. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 19:13, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The page mentions that it "reminds of the [[|File:Crown of Louis XV, Musée du Louvre, Paris October 2015.jpg|crown of King Louis XV]]," but the french crowns display a fleur de lis. Nothing I've seen has shown any Fijian emblem with a fleur de lis; for example, that coin displays a cross. I am just unsure on how the crown part of the arms should be. Are you able to clarify that for me? Thanks. Pbroks13 (talk) 16:37, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbroks13: Sorry for the delay. Honestly I'm not sure, I was merely going by what the article said. Yes, it is hard to make out whether the emblem on the crown from the article is supposed to be a cross or a fleur-de-lis, and I haven't seen any Fijian heraldry bearing a fleur-de-lis either, so I know it is a bit unusual for a Fijian arms to allegedly bear a French-style crown, but then again, the two sceptres in the Arms are said to be similar to those of Charles II and Mary of Modena, neither of which have anything to do with Fiji either. Hence the crown doesn't seem to be the only thing that Cakobau copied from European royalty when creating the arms. But if we're both unsure, would you prefer not to create such a file? Sorry about this. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 20:09, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: I don't mind making it; I've actually already made it. I just don't know which crown to use! It's up to you, just let me know. Perhaps some more digging into what "The Royal Fijian Crown" is is necessary. Pbroks13 (talk) 20:36, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbroks13: Well, there really doesn't seem to be any fixed version of the "Royal Fijian Crown" from the 1871-1874 time period, as proven with the differing examples of said crown displayed here and here. And according to the aforementioned article, no actual Fijian regalia ever existed physically in the 1870s, only for heraldic purposes. However, this photo of an old Fijian flag that I came across on the Fiji Museum website seems to show a crown with two red shapes that vaguely resemble fleur-de-lis. I know they only resemble them in a rather crude way (and that the crown doesn't look that much like the one on the arms in any other way either), but it does make me wonder if fleur-de-lis did indeed appear in Fijian heraldry at the time after all (even if it seems to have been completely copied from European royal symbols that don't have much to do with Fiji). So perhaps the Louis XV crown should be used after all? Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 18:36, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    The logo in question.
The U.S. cover of Disney Stitch Jam uses a version of the anime's logo (without the exclamation point) that has some extra highlight details.

Title card for Stitch! ~Itazura Alien no Daibouken~ (Stitch! ~The Mischievous Alien's Great Adventure~) This features the Japanese logo of the series (which is not needed here). The Japanese logo also has highlights similar to those seen on the Disney Stitch Jam cover, including the highlights on the exclamation point, which is exactly the same shape as the one found on the English logo.
