An invitation to join WikiProject LGBT

Hi GreenLipstickLesbian! Welcome to Wikipedia. I love your username, and I am impressed by your willingness to accept feedback and to learn--it's the hallmark of a great Wikipedian. :O)

I invite you to check out WikiProject LGBT. A WikiProject is an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians. New participants are welcome; please feel free to join WikiProject LGBT if you wish. To join, add your name to the members list. Of course this is completely voluntary. I simply like to invite "family" when I meet folks on Wikipedia. On a personal level, I'm gay and my young adult daughter is lesbian--she and her girlfriend just celebrated their 5th anniversary! I hope this invitation is not too forward. I lived in isolation and fear for so long I want to make sure no one feels that way anywhere at anytime. But sometimes what's important to me, might very well not be important to others. Cheers!   - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) 13:05, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'm trying to be a good Wikipedian, and I'm really glad you noticed my username! It's basically my personality in three words. I'm really happy that you invited me, I'm joining now. I didn't know that there was a LGBT Wikiproject, but I'm glad there is. When I first came out to myself, I spent hours on a lot of the LGBT articles on Wikipedia just trying to figure out who I was. It's really nice of you to invite me, it made my day. And that's amazing about your daughter! It must be amazing to her to be in such a happy relationship and to have a supporting family. MfD

If my reply to you at the MfD seems personally "sharp" or "lectury", it's not meant that way; it's part of the general response pattern I'm making there, to an intensively and non-neutrally canvassed WP:ASPERSIONS snow-job. If I keep re-iterating that one is not a transphobe if one objects to WP using, in its own voice, things like "Ke$ha", "SONY", "Peace Be upon Him", and (yes) "xie", then it should eventually sink in. (Nor does it make the author anti-business, an atheistic activist, or a denigrator of particular celebrities – but no one wants to talk about anything but the genderqueer stuff, because it was WT:LGBT that was canvassed.) I'm a lone person defending against a whipped up mob who were led there with claims of a transphobic attack and who have mostly not read the piece (or who've skimmed it after already making up their minds that it must be a transphobic attack because one of their wikifriends said so). For their part, the Signpost editors have barely commented, so it's just me dealing with it. I agree in retrospect that including it in the Signpost in particular was ill-thought-out; for my part, I was asked if they could use it, and said okay, as I don't pay much attention to the Signpost and didn't consider whether other people do.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:12, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
