Telangana the 29th state of India

"On July 30, 2013, the Congress Party, which leads the governing coalition of the central government, endorsed the creation of Telangana as the 29th state of India by dividing Andhra Pradesh. The decision culminated a 57-year-old troubled relationship between the two Telugu-speaking regions, which had been combined to form Andhra Pradesh."

Great. Please inform us when it actually does become a state. CMD (talk) 15:46, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You know - I think we may not have to worry too much, and someone, somewhere, probably will let us know when that happens, in case we forget - if not before it happens - again... It's just a feeling I have... Begoontalk 16:04, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vinaychammy (talk) 14:37, 4 October 2013 (UTC) The Indian map shown in this page is incorrect! A large portion of Jammu and Kashmir which is originally occupied by Pakistan is actually labeled as 'Pakistan territory claimed by India' and the entire State of Arunachal Pradesh is shown as as 'Chinese territory claimed by India' which is totally incorrect! Please correct it![reply]

Not done: This map is used across articles in wikipedia. It is per long standing consensus.  Abhishek  Talk 15:59, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 11 January 2014

In the proposals sub-section, I request someone to remove the first line i.e "Ahead of the 2009 General Elections in India, all the major parties in Andhra Pradesh supported statehood for Telangana. As a result of this unilateral decision by the Government of India, several members of Andhra Pradesh's legislature submitted their resignations to protest the creation of the new state owing to the pressure from the people in their constituencies." which is unsourced and instead of it add the following lines along with references from here: "On 9 December 2009 the Government of India announced process of formation of Telangana state. After Members of Legislative Assembly & Council from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions had submitted resignations in response to the announcement, as well as violent protests raised in those regions immediately after the announcement, the decision to form to new state was put on hold on 23 December 2009. The movement continued in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana.".[2][3] Do the necessary modifications at your will. I am Jayadevp13 but since I am blocked per my own request I cannot possibly make those changes. Regards. - 117.199.189.185 (talk) 07:02, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Telangana

AP Re-organisation Bill is just passed but not in force. If only notified in Gazette of India, it will come to effect. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 11:21, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Population density

What is the unit for population density -- people per sq km, or people per sq mile? Vedabit (talk) 06:11, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Per square kilometer. I have added it to the table column heading. Abecedare (talk) 21:08, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement of map

The map at the top is not too good. Could we replace it with a much better one? Also, can the word "Jharkand" not be placed exactly across the border between Bihar and Jharkand? That is just confusing. 173.88.241.33 (talk) 23:29, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Make a better one and replace it. —Gazoth (talk) 23:59, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@173.88.241.33: See if {{India States and Territories Labelled Map}} is an improvement over the previous version ? Abecedare (talk) 03:41, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This map is much better and includes the capitals https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:States_and_union_territories_of_India#/media/File:India_-_administrative_map.png Legacypac (talk) 01:03, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please use your map, go ahead. 222.164.212.168 (talk) 08:58, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A year later, the map still needs a lot of work. And when it is enlarged it has no text avaialble, which defeats the purpose of enlarging it. Is there any way the text of the map can be attached to the map? Stevenmitchell (talk) 01:09, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why J&K was removed from list of states?

Vandalism? Please reinsert and protect it from the Online-Jihadi Pakis. Thanks. 222.164.212.168 (talk) 08:56, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Union territory

Jammu and Ladakh are two New Union territories in India from August 05,2019 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkshiya Amarnath (talkcontribs) 12:28, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

So this article needs a map update. It is mostly India-based news outlets that are reporting in detail on the split at this point, and they almost exclusively print maps that acknowledge neither Pakistani control of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, nor Chinese control of its Hetian, Pishan, Ritu, Zhada, Ga'er, Shache, and Tashi Ku'ergan counties; subsuming both countries' territories into India's. Since Wikipedia mostly publishes maps that show the de facto China–India border and India–Pakistan border, we will need some neutral maps. This map on Myindia might be a good base. Without the addition of Jammu or Ladakh, or of Chinese and Pakistani territory, the Kashmir valley territory (insurgency region) is surprisingly small. 체셔🐈 (talk) 18:07, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Incorrect. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill has not yet come into force. Until it comes into force by a separate government announcement, it will remain a state of India and should be presented as such on Wikipedia. — kashmīrī TALK 18:26, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Change 29 states to 28 states.
Change seven union territories to nine union territories
Change "for a total of 36 entities" to "for a total of 37 entities"
Move Jammu and Kashmir from States to Union Territories.
Add Ladakh to Union Territories Dhwalin (talk) 04:03, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The law that proposes the changes has not yet come into force. — kashmīrī TALK 12:40, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Now the bill is a law, right ? so can we add now? Techielife (talk) 16:24, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The bill only becomes law once accented to by the President of India. The bill also calls for an "appointed day" for the changes to take place which is to be published in the official gazette. Changes to the article can be made once these things happen. Cordyceps-Zombie (talk) 16:30, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Bill will also have to be published in the Gazette to come into effect post Presidential assent. -Tamravidhir (talk!) 18:30, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Jammu And Kashmir

As all are aware that after passage of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill was passed, Jammu and Kashmir loses the status of state. Kindly remove Jammu and Kashmir from states list. Lordofhunk (talk) 18:50, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
