- Lovely greeting. The first one.
You were the first to post a Christmas card here 12 months ago. Thank you very much! Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 19:40, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Cheers
Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry
No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well MarnetteD|Talk 17:06, 16 December 2019 (UTC) |
- Hi Gareth. We are in New York for this years card rather than Wales but I still wanted you to be the first to receive it.
- Hello Michael, I am honoured and delighted. Thank you for this. All best wishes, Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 17:10, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Festive greetings
Gareth - wishing you the very best as we near the end of another decade, and let's hope for good things in that misty region before us that we call the future, eh? Tony. Tony Holkham (Talk) 13:11, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, Tony. Yes, there is so much anticipated change; hoping it will be for the best for you and me. Cheers! Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 16:50, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

- Celebrating the shortest day. (Photograph was taken at 15.51, during a sunset sequence on December 19 2009, close to the winter solstice) with a cheeky robin redbreast.
You are spoiling me. Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 18:34, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

- What a lovely greeting. Have not got round to doing mine yet this year, but I promise you one for the New Year. Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 15:43, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, glad you liked it, I loved these pics of the pets in snow. The cat by the way is a breed known as a Norwegian Forest Cat - quite large fellows. Heh, I confess sending these cards on WP is about the extent of my "holiday-ing" this year. Shearonink (talk) 18:05, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Merry and blessed Christmas...
...and if it took Boo Radley to bring me here to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years, God bless him everyone (to mix a few metaphors in a pot of soup and a Christmas goose). Randy Kryn (talk) 12:19, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Ha, ha! Well said Randy! Happy Christmas and a good 20 20 from another italicisor! Note the British English spelling. Cheers! Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 12:29, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

- Solar panels have replaced polythene sheeting on slopes for crops (what I called water-ski slopes) as the feature of the last decade, though rabbit hutch clone housing may have a longer lasting effect on the landscape.SovalValtos (talk) 05:08, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- You must be clairvoyant; New UK housing 'dominated by roads'. Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 11:04, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello Gareth Griffith-Jones, I'm writing to you because yuor nmae is in the list of the "WikiProject Dogs" and you're one of the last still active. There's a discussion you might be interested in, here. I'd be glad to know your opinion about this matter, so I hope that you'll read the thread I opened. Thank you in advance if you decide to join. 151.64.171.8 (talk) 11:33, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- I have read your lengthy thread; I do not think that our discussing "correct pronunciation" of Maltese is of value to the Wikipedia article. I note that your IP address is in the north of Italy.
Cheers! Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 11:51, 21 January 2020 (UTC)- Thanks for reading and replying! The point isn't the correctness of the pronunciation (I can link a source to prove it), but the presence of the Italian pronunciation in the article. There're thousands of articles containing words referring to things of foreign origin where it's indicated the original pronunciation ("pasta" for Italian, "champagne" for French, "tortilla" for Spanish, etc...). Do you sincerely think that they're of no value to the related Wikipedia articles? By the way, my IP (a dynamic IP, so the IP you'll see in the future will be different from the current) is from Northern Italy, it's correct, and that's why I know so many things about the pronunciation of that name in Italian, but I don't think I've understood why you wanted to point that out. 151.64.171.8 (talk) 12:12, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- ... because I don't believe the issue would have as much importance to those not living in the Mediterranean Basin and I always check the location of IP posters.Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 12:15, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Err... Okay, so in your opinion the pronunciation of "pasta" in Italian wouldn't have as much importance to those who don't live in Italy (same for "champagne" out of France and for "tortilla" out of Spain)? English Wikipedia is full of articls about American VIPs of foreign origin whose name and/or surname are indicated also in the original language: do you think that all these pronunciation should be removed because they have no importance to American English speakers? Or perhaps what you've said applies only to this particular case and not to every similar case else? 151.64.171.8 (talk) 12:21, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
