Silk Smitha

I'll respond to the rest of what you wrote later (ie, we can debate whether Silk Smitha falls under the accepted or known definition of a porn star), but please accept my unconditional apologies for (unintentionally) hurting your feelings. Binand 16:23, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, my rev-vandalism comment was primarily about this edit by 221.128.175.59: [1]. Unfortunate that I reverted your addition of category in the same edit and the comment stuck.
Secondly, all Silk has done in movies is to dance to a few songs. I really haven't seen any reference to any of her movies that might even make her to be considered into the Shakeela standards - there are no frontal nudity scenes featuring her, for example. On the other hand, she (Silk) has a decent repertoire of movies in which her co-stars have included people like Kamal Haasan, Mammootty (at the peak of his career), Rajnikanth etc. If she is considered a porn star, I'd say Helen or several of today's Bollywood stars will fall under the same category.

Bottom of the page shows in "edit page" mode but not in "regular mode"

When I open the page Jazmin I find the last parts missing, including the templates put there. But, when I open the page in "edit page" all of the missing part is still there, including the whole filmograpy. How do I get it right, and make the whole article appear in regular mode (i.e. reading or non-editing mode)? (Aditya Kabir 20:30, 23 June 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Can't format the vital statistics table on Riya Sen page. Don't have enough wikicode education. Help needed. Aditya Kabir 19:41, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks guys, I have already got the help I was looking for, though table formatting is still beyond my capacities. My heartfelt thanks to Gamesmasterg9, for his help, especially the help in the area dicision making. - Aditya Kabir 08:26, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please, help me to delete Image:Mru Dress.jpg. It was uploaded by me.

Done. In the future, if you've created a page and realize you'd rather have it deleted, you can add {{db-author}} to the page. :) Luna Santin 08:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help me to put proper Fair Use Rationale for the picture Image:Shahbag Thana.jpg.

I can't see that there is one. You uploaded it so if you don't have a proper fair use rationale I doubt anyone else will. Not to mention that using an image to illustrate it's subject generally doesn't come under fair use. --pgk 16:32, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help me to format the table on Shahbag. I don't have enough grasp of wikicodes to do it myself. I'd love to:

  1. have it wrapped, so text flows by its side
  2. have the font of the Title enlarged, and the font size of the list reduced
  3. have some color put to the table
  4. have width of the column defined
  5. and, may be, have the lines between each list item removed.

Please help. - Aditya Kabir 07:23, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I chose to do mostly only 1 and 2. The rest of the changes seem a bit much for a single table, especially adding color and removing the lines between the items. Peter O. (Talk) 07:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have modified a few parameters of the table, looking at Help:Table and other tables in Wikipedia may help you.--Commander Keane 07:36, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, Peter O. beat me to it. I saved what I did in my Sandpit, you can play with it there if you want.--Commander Keane 07:40, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do I report a vandal? I want to report User:Diegogarcia, please check the user's contributions. - Aditya Kabir 08:15, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can't get the "Archive-nav" template properly working with User talk:Aditya Kabir/Archive 1 and User talk:Aditya Kabir/Archive 2. Plase help. - Aditya Kabir 18:40, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the helpme request. The archive nav template seems to be working properly now. If it still isn't, please let me know what's not working and I'll help you out. --Yamla 18:52, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me- 2

The picture Image:BIRDEM.JPG on Shahbag isn't showing. How can I fix the problem? Do I need to download the picture, and reupload? - Aditya Kabir 06:15, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to have been a problem with thumbnail caching. See commons:Commons:FAQ#Technical_questions for more information about this. The image appears to be working now; if you cannot see it, do a hard refresh (Ctrl-Shift-R or Ctrl-F5) in your browser. Cheers, Tangotango 06:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have requested a peer review for the article on Bandarban, and has put my comments on the discussion page as well. But, it is not showing on the Wikipedia:Peer review page. - Aditya Kabir 17:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to check the discussion on Image:Riya promo.jpg, a recently deleted image. How can I do that? - Aditya Kabir 06:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Only administrators may review the contents of deleted pages. I can tell you that, at 21:12, 7 December 2006 Robth (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) deleted "Image:Riya promo.jpg" with the justification: (replaceable fair use). If you wish to protest the issue, you should contact him or her. Rockpocket 06:57, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to archive the discussion on the talk page of the image Image:Riya promo.jpg,, for future reference, not to argue against the deletion. I supported its deletion. But, before I got around to copy and paste the discussion on my archive of talk pages, it went kaput. Sob sob cru cry. Now, can you tell me how I can get through to the discussion on its talk page? - Aditya Kabir 18:54, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The talk page is still there at Image talk:Riya promo.jpg. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PurpleRain (talkcontribs)
Yes, it is. I'm sorry, I misunderstood your original question. Rockpocket 19:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is [2]. So far the votes are 3 for merge with football and 1 for delete. (The problem may be due to lag with the wikipedia servers or caching on your own browser.) --sony-youth 14:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Riya Sen

Hey Aditya. Glad to see your level of activity on WP. Regarding the points you made about the Riya Sen article, I removed the links to the languages, because its Wikipedia policy to wikilink a word only once in an article. Since the words Hindi and Malayalam appear earlier in the article, I don't wikilink them a second time. This prevents an excessive number of wikilinks, which would make reading the article difficult.

As for the picture, please feel free to replace the one I have with a better one. The only problem is that copyright rules are pretty stringent, so the best option is to get posters or screenshots, crop her head out, and lower the resolution so it satisfies the fair use laws. I decided on this one because this was a shot that was in keeping with her image, but if you find a better one, go ahead and upload it - just be sure to replace the old one rather than uploading a new one, otherwise there's a huge excess of unused pictures.

I also made a couple of changes to the external links you added - I redirected the link to the relevant section. Also, I removed one of the other two external links since they point to very similar articles. Another thing I did was to the page on the Ganguly brothers - a small point but very important. Please make sure that all titles and sub-headings use lowercase letters except for the first letter and proper nouns. Otherwise Wikipedia links get very confused. In fact, if you find a page with too many capital letters, please go ahead and change it. Gamesmaster G-9 16:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Artcell AfD's

I just bundled them all together because they either all meet WP:MUSIC or all fail it. A bundled AfD is easier in this case.--Isotope23 19:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it... it's not a big deal.--Isotope23 19:45, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category renaming

Hey Aditya, you would have to list it for renaming. See [[3]] for more.Gamesmaster G-9 20:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Every image I checked (and I'll freely admit that I did not check every single one) was licensed as a film screenshot. That means that the image may be used "for identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents", not solely to identify and depict a person. The gallery was not even identifying the films, let alone using the images to provide critical commentary on them. It was solely a gallery of people, thus was violating the image licenses. If you haven't been able to follow what I've just said, please let me know. --Yamla 18:45, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, I was unable to find even a single image which had a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale for any use on the Wikipedia, let alone specifically for the gallery. Note also under WP:FUC, we are only permitted to use freely-licensed images to depict living people. --Yamla 18:45, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note that WP:FUC has recently become stricter. As noted above, we are no longer allowed to use copyrighted non-free images (that is, images not in the public domain or licensed under GFDL or CC) to depict living people. --Yamla 18:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Responding to your comment, not quoted) Absolutely. It seems to be a bigger problem amongst the articles on Indian actors compared to Hollywood actors and I'm not sure why, though it's a big problem throughout the Wikipedia. Thank you for your calm inquiry on my discussion page. --Yamla 18:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

bn wiki and some other comments

I'll reply to your latest arguments about city and town designations soon. By the way, the Bangla wikipedia needs more contributors ... would you care to check it out?

My other comment is about the galleries in your user page. While some images there are free or PD images, many others (like the screenshots and the Riya Sen image) are under Fair use licenses. Therefore, you cannot use them on your user page under any circumstances. Please remove them. The Fair use principle for using images allow using them ONLY to illustrate the subject. User pages are not allowed to have fair use images. Thank you. --Ragib 07:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For relevant policy, please refer to Wikipedia:Fair_use#Policy, especially policy #9. Thanks. --Ragib 07:26, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm removing unfair pictures. And, the Bangla font interface still scares me. - Aditya Kabir 07:32, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Have you tried this or this? You don't need to install anything to use these to write Bangla (either phonetic or Bijoy). --Ragib 07:42, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, you have two more: The Bangabondhu speech photo, and the Dave Steven's magazine cover. Both are under fair use, and can't be used in user pages. Thanks. --Ragib 17:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed. Happily. Are here any Muktijuddho images uploaded that I can use on my userpage? - Aditya Kabir 18:00, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, we don't have any Muktijuddho photos in wikipedia. I'm sure that Muktijuddho Jadughor or other entities would happily give us permission to use those images, but I wasn't able to contact any. If you know someone from these or "projonmo 71" or other orgs, you can ask them for permission to use their photos. Those will be a great addition to the Bangladesh Liberation War and related pages. Thanks. --Ragib 18:06, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

copyvio

A lot of the text at the Khwaja Abdul Ghani article has been copy-pasted from Banglapedia. Please rewrite the text, and cite the source, otherwise, the article may be removed. Thank you. --Ragib 17:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know. I have used Banglapedia to begin the article. I intend to rework the copy to make it more consolidated, include the information from the offcial web page of the nawab family, and make use of a couple of Daily Star articles. I also intend to use stuff from Hakim Habibur Rahman's book, and a few other sources. But, all that will require a couple of days time. Till then I am fine quoting Banglapedia as a source. Thanks. - Aditya Kabir 17:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I was hoping for an answer to my proposal on your talk page. Will you, please, check it out? - Aditya Kabir 17:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And, please, do check the Dhaka Nawab Family artcile as well. It too uses Banglapedia as a skeleton. If possible, please, take look at Shahbag, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and Gulshan, Dhaka as well. - Aditya Kabir 18:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. What about my proposal to join the Project on Bangladesh? How do I do that?
Just go ahead and add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh.
  1. And, how can I ask for help to create that infobox of "Dhaka Thana
You can take a look at Template:Infobox City, and copy it/modify it to suite the thana articles.

Thanks

--Ragib 18:08, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, do you write "natoks"? I'm curious because this Eid, I saw a natok written by one "Aditya Kabir" (probably on Channel I). So, was it you? --Ragib 17:22, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

Hi, Aditya. I can certainly sympathize with you, since I edited the Indian infobox because of how bulky and unadaptive it was compared to, say, {{Australia state or territory}} (see South Australia) or {{British Columbia municipality infobox}} (see Chetwynd, British Columbia) — in short, jealousy. I recommend that you perhaps model your infobox on {{British Columbia municipality infobox}} by copying the code and modifying the fields to suit Bangladeshi entities; if you have any specific questions, I'd then be glad to step in and help out. Another far-fetched possibility I was thinking about was just to move {{Infobox Indian Jurisdiction}} to, say, {{Infobox Asian Jurisdiction}} and generalize it to accept parameters from articles about entities in both Bangladesh and India. But it's up to you. Let me know, though. Thanks. Saravask 20:42, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Riya promo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Riya promo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oden 16:11, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vernacular scripts

I think the points you raised at the village pump were good ones. Utcursch has floated a proposal for controlling the use of vernacular scripts here Wikipedia:Vernacular scripts. I think you should copy-paste the points to the discussion page there, where it is being looked at by a number of admins, including non-Indians. Gamesmaster G-9 18:04, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla script needed

Bharat Dev Varma, Animesh Debbarma, Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba, Dasarath Deb. Pretty much Category:Tripuri people, and Category:Meitei people. Both Tripuris and Meiteilon use Bangla script.Bakaman 04:19, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply - I support Proposal 3, but do add the Bangla script to all articles in Category:Tripuri people, Category:Meitei people, and Category:Meitei royals. Bangla is the best fit for these articles. Bakaman 00:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:BangladeshBooty alt.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:BangladeshBooty alt.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Oden 18:08, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Artcell notability

I am not on Wikipedia enough to do the changes. However, if you notice there are articles about band members from regional bands that are not really known world-wide. The examples are numerous. The question of how well-known is well-known enough for WP is a tough one ;-). I'd say let's go ahead and remove the stubs that have no information other than names and if someone has enough information (s)he can create an article. urnonav
