Nicktoons are animated television shows that are produced by and aired on the children's television channel Nickelodeon.[1] Prior to 1991, Nickelodeon aired mostly foreign made animated series. The idea for Nicktoons was formed in 1989[2] and on Sunday, August 11, 1991, the first Nicktoon, Doug, was aired followed by Rugrats and The Ren and Stimpy Show.[3] This format was repeated every Sunday.
