What does "c." stand for?

One of the pictures is described as: "Alan Alda c. 1960s". I wonder what does the "c." stand in the description? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.245.82.2 (talk) 13:43, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"circa" - meaning that the picture was made some unknown time in or around 1960.Shajure (talk) 22:54, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The lead is about Alda and his key facts and should *tightly* summarize the article

I removed, again, a bunch of stuff about other folks, kinds of movies, etc. from the lead. If we need that stuff, it needs to be in the body, with some link to Alda's contribution... did Aldo influence a costar's development? A director's? help define a genre? That would be worth mentioning. The name of the 2nd camera-operator's favorite color or pet wombat's name would not.Shajure (talk) 21:50, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The NYT piece is literally just a cast listing, so no pass on GNG and I don't think her acting work meets NACTOR, unlike her sister. Makes sense to cover her within context of her father's personal life Star Mississippi 15:24, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

After literally a year and a day with no opposition, @Star Mississippi:, I think you can proceed with the merge. Joyous! | Talk 04:03, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hah! I'd totally forgotten about this. Thank you for the reminder and  Done Star Mississippi 19:12, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Prison?

What's this about Alda being in prison? Interview in NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/16/arts/television/alan-alda-mash-anniversary.html Gattodacqua (talk) 06:33, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect that's just a reference to his time filming The Glass House. - Bilby (talk) 07:22, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Missing information

Alan Alda also starred in a comedy movie called Wanderlust. He plays as a wheelchair bound co-founder of a cultish Bed and Breakfast called Elysium. 71.150.106.59 (talk) 04:28, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Never served in Korea

Alan Alda never served in Korea. He had denied it on multiple occasions. For example in this tweet: https://twitter.com/alanalda/status/1217229317387669504. Plus he details his service in his autobiography and he was only in the US. Is there some way to get that error out of there. It does say he served on some military sites but they are all wrong. QuizzicalBee (talk) 00:36, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This ref [1] says he served six months during (not in) the Korean war. - FlightTime (open channel) 00:48, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I get that. The reference is wrong, and obviously so. Alan Alda is a much better source of his own life than a website. Alan Alda is a primary source and the army is a secondary source that is based on faulty information. Secondary sources are less definitive than primary sources in most cases. Not only that, but given that Alda was born in 1936 and the Korean War was 1950 to 1953, he was only barely 17 when the war ended. And not only that, but in his book, he describes his service at Fort Benning, and it's after he graduated from college (about 1956) and shortly before he got married in 1957. So he never even served in the military ANYWHERE during the Korean war. It's time to get this misinformation off of his page. QuizzicalBee (talk) 16:18, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
