:::It is absolutely not a copyright violation. If you or someone else care to write the article differently, for your own personal taste reasons, that's okay by me. I happen to think the selection by me of quotes, and other writing, is a fine and "original" work, itself. But anyhow, it is absolutely not a copyright violation, to include quotes about why a place is NRHP-listed from its NRHP nomination. ::::From WP:NRHPHELP#NRHP nomination forms,
::::<blockquote>If [NRHP nomination forms] are public domain, you might include text from these documents directly without paraphrasing, but it is desirable in either case to summarize them and paraphrase for better article quality.</blockquote>
::::...especially if the directly quoted text makes up a majority of the article and is in a promotional rather than objective tone.
::::If someone else wanted to write the article differently–or at all–they would have done it already. Perhaps someone may want to write the article in the future, but until then we have a half-assed copy and paste sitting there for the whole world to see. If you take the initiative to write an article, it is your duty to make it acceptable. That's what got you into the whole Arbcom thing in the first place.. doing sub-par, quick-fix work and expecting someone else to come along behind you and clean it up. That's not how things work here.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 19:13, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

dab page Niobrara River Bridge help

Need help creating Niobrara River Bridge dab page, with approximately:

Niobrara River Bridge may refer to:

 • Adamson Bridge, near Valentine, Nebraska, also known as Niobrara River Bridge and as NEHBS No. CE00-227, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)
 • Bell Bridge, near Valentine, Nebraska, also known as the Allen Bridge and Niobrara River Bridge and NEHBS No. CE00-22, also NRHP-listed
 • Berry State Aid Bridge, near Valentine, Nebraska, also known as Niobrara River Bridge and as NEHBS No. CE00-225, also NRHP-listed
 • Borman Bridge, near Valentine, Nebraska, also known as Niobrara River Bridge and NEHBS No. CE00-224, also NRHP-listed

disambiguation

And there may be more to add. In addition, it will make sense to add a section about bridge crossings to the Niobrara River article, but the dab page is still needed, as these are multiple bridges of exactly this name apparently. Will appreciate help by someone just creating the dab. --doncram 01:15, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It sure looks like the Arbcom decision wass a great one (sarcasm intended)

Its grossly apparent that the Arbcom decision to make Doncram go through Articles for creation for all of his submissions was another in a long line of bad decisions. This shows, that not only did the case have little merit (since virtually every single one are being accepted) but that it is a huge wasted of the already stretched time of the Articles for creation process. I really hope that someone at AFC steps up and mentions to the Arbcom that this is a waste of their time to continue to do this. Not only that but its leaving a whole lot of unnecessary redirects like Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Miller Hotel behind that will need to be cleaned up at some point. Kumioko (talk) 20:19, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kumioko. Thank you for your interest and support. I don't wish to dispute the resolution of the arbcom case, which is largely working. In particular I have appreciated being free from drama of AFDs, ANI incidents, etc. that were routinely opened and were dragging me and others down. The arbcom decision included provision that I could appeal the restriction on article creation after one year (and I think implied that I could not appeal that beforehand). The AFC process has tools that make it relatively easy for reviewers and has a pool of reviewers not previously involved. I don't welcome having to create some different process, though I don't rule that out. Thanks. --doncram 11:34, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Commons category template

Consider using Commons category when appropriate. This will allow you to eliminate the External Links section in some of your submissions. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:41, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion, but the use of the external link is deliberate for Nebraska articles. Specifically you've noticed my using an external like "More photos of the Holt County Courthouse at Wikimedia Commons", included in the User:Doncram/Holt County Courthouse article. This is per discussion with User:Ammodramus, whose view is that the Commons category box is not the most helpful. I tend to agree, in part because the box appears way low and to the right, below the NRHP infobox, in short NRHP articles. This is discussed at User talk:Ammodramus #Dry Valley Church pics, still an open discussion. You're welcome to comment there. Not sure if this could/should be usefully discussed elsewhere; I tend to think not, as this is just about a couple users preference to use something better than the standard commons box, in a limited series of articles. --doncram 16:57, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Consider creating a template for this external link. The presence of a dedicated template will prevent most editors from saying "why did he do it that way," and the template's /doc page can explain things in more detail and provide links to the discussions you mentioned above. If you need me to move the template from user space to template space, buzz me on my talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:35, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Using Commons category-inline would let you format the Commons link as a standard external link, FYI. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 07:24, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good point, davidwr, i'll do that... er, and wow, thanks, Thecatalyst, i'll use that going forward. Have just done so for my current drafted articles (which I am hoping might get reviewed today, for silly reason that it would allow them to be counted in today's update to nrhp "progress" map, hint. i am done for today myself, now). This is of wider interest for other NRHP articles, too. Thanks! --doncram 08:03, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't mind if I jump in here. TheCatalyst131's suggestion doesn't address my principal problem with the Commons template, which is that the phrase "Media related to X" doesn't convey all that much meaning to the average WP reader. The "More photos of X" phrasing that Doncram and I have been using seems much clearer and more specific about what the reader will find at the Commons category. Ammodramus (talk) 00:12, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's more a problem with the intended vs. practical scope of Commons, though. In theory Commons can host most media types, but in practice the vast majority of files on Commons are photos. It seems like there's been a gradual move to emphasize the non-photo media hosted by Commons (e.g. the change of the "Image" namespace to the "File" namespace), but that hasn't changed the fact that for most categories (and particularly NRHP ones) every file they have will be an image. There should be some kind of template for articles that will probably never have other kinds of media, IMO, but I don't know of one that currently exists. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 00:39, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Try this:
If that is too plain, you can add text before or after it, or even (possibly) put it in the infobox.
If you and Ammodramus come up with some boilerplate text that you like, consider making a NRHP-Nebraska-specific template for it.

Re: Category:Submissions by Doncram ready for review  Done

Please db-user the leftover redirects if you no longer need them.

For each, I make sure the talk page was correct, fixed up categories, and if there was a link to a commons category I changed it to the template form and moved it to the top of the reference section. Because it shows up "on the right" it may not show up "in" the references though. Any remaining empty "external links" section was deleted. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:06, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP - Arkansas

As the NRHP expert, I wanted you to know that someone sent in 15 images of NRHP locations. I uploaded them, added an NRHP category, added them to National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Saline_County,_Arkansas and the related articles if they exist. There were a few additional pictures not on the list or not clearly on the list, so I noted this on the talk page.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 20:09, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i don't know if you mean u or me as being some kind of nrhp expert? I am not an expert. :) Anyhow, i actually am interested in "doing" an Arkansas county or two, because it is one of few states that has not a single fully-articled county. I was thinking about National Register of Historic Places listings in Pike County, Arkansas because it has relatively few NRHPs -- and i started one article there recently, but I'd be happier working where there is some local interest and especially happier to work where there are pics available. Saline county is where Bentonville, home of Walmart, is, and would be more salient generally. So I guess i'll switch to that. Thanks for calling it to my attention! --doncram 20:50, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I meant you, not me. Yes, I was hoping that if you had a few pics, it might influence where you might turn your attention. I'll let the person that donated the images know.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 21:00, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Please do let the person know, and that they're welcome to contact me, and to follow what develops at the Saline County NRHP list. We, broadly, really do want to encourage contributions of more pics and of writing too, and in this case at least I am happy to be responsive to what a contributor is giving, especially as it ties into something i was wanting to work on anyhow. Cheers, --doncram 21:04, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DEFAULTSORT for NRHP articles

I noticed you use frequently use a DEFAULTSORT of lastname, honorific firstname middlename, House. Is this an established convention or is this something you made up? I ask because if it's not an established convention, see Wikipedia:DEFAULTSORT, Wikipedia:NAMESORT, and Wikipedia:SORTKEY. --Sphilbrick 04:33, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

I haven't particularly thought about it but use it because Elkman does. I think Pubdog asked me to include it in some drafts, too, not sure. I don't have any big opinion about it. Either way perhaps it should be addressed in NRHP style guide, if you do bring it up for discussion elsewhere. --doncram 12:43, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Could you or another active NRHP editor bring up the issue in a place where most other NRHP-active editors hang out? Until/unless there is a consensus to use a particular DEFAULTSORT and that consensus is documented somewhere, every now and then someone will ask "why is it done this way" and they might start deleting them. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:59, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There are actually probably 5,000 or so NRHP articles having this, guessing from about 30,000 NRHP articles being created so far. I don't see it as a likely problem that someone would start deleting the defaultsorts. This has to do, also, with the funny way that the NRHP's NRIS legacy database recorded listings, e.g. as "Lastname, Firstname, House" or "Lastname, Firstname house" so that it would, itself, be sortable by key name. In Wikipedia we can use defaultsort so that items show up in sensible order in a category, and we can use our own choice in ordering in the NRHP list-articles (indexed at List of RHPs), where we do use the lastname of course. Thanks for your concern, but I am not going to open a discussion anywhere unless/until it seems to be a current issue. --doncram 22:04, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can also add sort keys to individual categories. For templates that include categories (including most or all HRHP stub templates), you can modify the templates to take a custom sort key, much like WPBiography has a listas= parameter. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:27, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New Mexico articles

I'm looking through the articles you have for review, and most of the New Mexico articles are almost entirely sourced to the NRIS. For instance, De Baca County Courthouse only has one sentence about the TR nomination that isn't based on the NRIS, and Eklund Hotel only has a sentence about another property that isn't based on the NRIS. Given that the NRIS has reliability issues, I'm not sure those articles are ready for the mainspace yet. I can provide more specific comments on the talk pages, but this seems to be an issue with several of the drafts. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 22:31, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yes, you're right those are short. The items you are referring to are just these 5:
There are not NRHP nomination documents available for these (I tried), and I start the articles before web-searching for other sources, then found in several of these cases there were not other great sources showing up in the web search. So, including NRIS plus a Thematic Resources document reference is about all that is feasible for several of these, at first. NRIS alone actually suffices, technically, in my view, and NRIS + Thematic Resources provides a good start for any local, in my view. But it's fine by me if you choose not to promote any, yourself, and please do give specific comments at their Talk pages if you like (start a talk page as needed). In general I am not going to be starting a lot of such articles and only do so for a specific reason (perhaps silly reason here of getting 3 NM articles to pass a threshold, and I started a couple extra exactly because I found I had doubts on what was available for a couple of the first ones); it is obviously more productive to work where NRHP docs are usually available. Thanks! --doncram 23:07, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get a list of NRHP and other notable works of architects? I am having trouble finding a good list of works for Pittsburgh architect Thomas Hannah. For NRHP-listed works, I suggest using this query, with "Hannah". In its output i see one possible NRHP-listed Hannah work: Andrew Carnegie Free Library (Carnegie, Pennsylvania), 300 Beechwood Ave. Carnegie, PA (Struthers & Hannah). You may discern others within the output. That is a report based on NRHP listings up to a certain date in 2011. --doncram 02:21, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New "progress" status chart, which seems to be updated each Friday (and this will change)
Yes, mostly. As seen in "progress" status chart-map at right, if compared to previous week's one, the Kansas and Nebraska state-wide colors flipped one shade lighter blue, leaving just South Dakota having less than 20% "articled". That was the main "goal" i was working on this last week, i guess, though i had other goals of achieving dark red color for various counties (some achieved). If you look in detail at the map you can see a snaking red line of counties joining up more and more in the West. Also per the progress county-by-county and state-by-state tabulations at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Progress, Nevada was close to flipping from light blue to beige, i.e. to coming across the 50% threshold. If the three Nevada items above (Winnemucca Hotel, Micca House, Paradise Valley Ranger Station) had been processed sometime before 21:00 o'clock yesterday, that threshold would have barely been passed and been reflected in the chart-map. Your posting here was at 23:00 o'clock, presumably just after you processed all 8 above. Your approval of several New Mexico and Kansas ones, earlier, (together with User:TheCatalyst31, who was also focused on the Kansas-flipping goal, creating a bunch of Kansas articles separately from this) made the difference in those states flipping over. It's unpredictable when editor Dudemanfellabra will run the script to update the tabulation and then generate the updated chart-map, seems to happen anytime Thursday or Friday whenever D gets to it, which is fine. Having Nevada set up to flip next week is fine, too. :) If anyone wants to comment that this is silly, driving editing efforts to flip colors in a map, well, sure.... cheers, --doncram 20:16, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Also the Mud Springs Station Archeological District one would have connected the snaking line through Nebraska and Colorado. It will be fully connected next week, maybe down to Kansas? And, this is surely good stuff, to have significant coverage of historic sites, everywhere, covered with some good info for locals, for travelers, for whomever. Where there's now an article, often with link to full NRHP nomination document, then anyone with a smartphone can take a photo to add to the article, and be fully informed about the place while on the spot (which greatly informs quality of photos, ensuring important details, extra buildings, etc. can be captured). We're working in general to support a big world-wide photo drive, Wikipedia Loves Monuments, that will happen again in September. --doncram 20:30, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an idea: Pick some long, wind-ey historical paths, like Route 66, the Pony Express route, or the Trail of Tears and try to get those counties as red as possible as fast as possible. Or at least get all of the registered places that are relevant to those paths created. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:39, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, to work on all the NRHP listings of a certain type, like stagecoach / Pony Express stations, is something i've done before on other topics. E.g. List of Masonic buildings, List of Presbyterian churches, many other lists. It gets a bit tiresome though to build out all of just one type of thing.... Recently, i've been mapping out corridors that will display in the weekly "progress" map, just for fun since that is new. --doncram 22:17, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

talkheader template

Per a discussion on WT:WPAFC, I'm dropping the "talkheader" template on future moves unless there is actual discussion going on. Ironically, the discussion disagreed with my recommendation, which was to keep the header. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:Doncram/First National Bank of Haxtun

Clarification need on the first sentence of User:Doncram/First National Bank of Haxtun. What do you mean it "includes Georgian Revival"? Do you mean it is built in the Georgian Revival style of architecture, or that it includes significant elements from that style of architecture? There is an important difference. I have removed Category:Submissions by Doncram ready for review, please restore it when the draft is ready. Thanks. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:40, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another well-meaning (WP:AGF) editor reverted my changed to this submission. I intend on reverting his change and asking him to discuss the issue here if he wants to revert again. I can live with the word "building" not being in the final version (although IMHO it would be clearer if it were kept in). In any case, the submission will not be ready until the clarification above is complete so another editor's restoring the "ready for review" category is not something I can let stand. Only you will know when it is ready. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:01, 1 June 2013 (UTC) Update: See here for notification to the editor of this thread. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:10, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

rp template

You may want to use the rp template if you want to save people the trouble of digging through a multi-page reference that is used more than once and which the page number differs between uses. It is placed after the </ref> or template. s8p1 displays as : s8p1 . See Gourley's Opera House for an example. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:43, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have used the rp template many times; i think i kinda should probably always use it or another way of giving a specific page number when I include a quote from an NRHP document, but I haven't always done that. I have not seen usage like you suggest, with "s8p1" to indicate page 1 of section 8; i woulda used just "5" to indicate page 5 out of the PDF document; I'll consider using that section and page number approach. In some longer Multiple Property Submission documents and other documents, there can be a page numbering in the document that is quite different from the PDF page number; I have been ambivalent about which page numbering to report from sometimes. Thanks! --doncram 13:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

4 drafts moved

In some of these I had to make some edits. I would encourage you to look at the edit histories of each to see what I did. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 21:11, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please watch the talk page templates

I let a couple of mistakes get by and another editor fixed them. As a result I (and probably others helping you who see this message) will have to take longer for each of your drafts until I am (we are?) comfortable that they are free of mistakes. See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Harding_County_Courthouse&action=history and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:De_Baca_County_Courthouse&action=history .

Please go back and make sure your recently-moved articles have accurate talk pages and double-check new submissions before putting them into the "ready for review" category. Thanks. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 23:03, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, point taken. I just fixed the states for those 2, and found four other recent submissions to fix also. Is there any really significant difference between Nevada, Nebraska, New Mexico, anyhow? Kinda like Iowa being an alternate pronunciation of Ohio, per some New Yorker cartoon.  :) And... these weren't errors in mainspace, and I rather suspect Vegaswikian was just amused to "decline" those for Nevada. :) Anyhow, attention focussed (focused?). --doncram 23:39, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was just dropping by to let you know I fixed some as well. MOstly pertaining to Arkansas or Utah. No big deal really but just try and be careful. There are a lot of haters out there looking for a reason to block another contributor. Try not to give them a reason. They don't really have enough to do with all the backlogs in all the admin areas. :-)Kumioko (talk) 20:03, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, there are a certain number of Haters. I rather think that is the biggest problem for Wikipedia as a project, that it attracts and enables persons for whom bullying / vindictive / revengeful battling is a character trait they can develop and inflict upon others. To the Hater(s) watching, don't take this as a comment about you personally, please, i mean the other ones. (This message tailored to avoid commenting about any other editor, so as to avoid f***ing hypocritical "no commenting on other editors" policy of wikipedia, generally inflicted by bullies who are, of course, commenting on other editors.) --doncram 11:11, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AE result

Per this discussion at WP:AE and your warning of 4th April, you are hereby reminded that comments on contributor rather than content may result in the imposition of sanctions. Gatoclass (talk) 10:45, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide a link or something as to what contributory comment you are referring too? Or is AE now just leaving periodic reminders? Kumioko (talk) 20:01, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I was wondering the same thing until I looked up a few lines and saw "was just amused to" and figured "that must be it." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 21:47, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was wondering too but then I thought to myself it must be something else because that was too petty of an issue to even mention unless they are looking for a reason to block him. Which is quite possible frankly. Kumioko (talk) 23:13, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Or, WP:AGF, they were being a friend and cautioning him before someone with an agenda did. Kind of like two friends in a restaurant and one has a history of alcohol-related problems and the other insisting he not order that 2nd drink. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This was the comment in question.--The Devil's Advocate tlk. cntrb. 03:15, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'm still not seeing a problem. Maybe a little edgier than it could be but nothing that would merit an AE IMO. But the AE is closed now anyway so its pretty much over. Kumioko (talk) 03:19, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Knocked off 2, many more to go

I moved User:Doncram/Adorno Station and User:Doncram/George Albert Bradshaw House. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:07, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I think there are 12 or so currently ready to be approved, if u or anyone else agrees. FYI, FWIW the 3 wyoming ones (Atlas Theatre, City and County Building, and Deming School) would bring WY over a 60 percent threshold; the Adorno Station and a few other Nevada ones would bring the snaking line of red progress through Humboldt County, Nevada, and I mildly am interested in these being approved before the Friday "progress" map comes out. Nevada as a state will already pop over the 50 percent mark. Cheers, --doncram 11:01, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: words of encouragement

Thank you. I tremendously appreciate your feedback and consideration. It has been nothing short of frustrating to get the flow of misinformation corrected and make the general public more aware of what the neighborhood includes and contains. Your note regarding a past LA Times reporting problem which has since been corrected is encouraging, and also points to the real value that Wikipedia holds in bringing common knowledge to light.

I recently uploaded my first self-shot photo to the Harvard Heights page, and in that vein plan to photograph some of the known historic cultural monuments in the neighborhood, including the Ray Charles studio which you suggested. It's just a matter of finding the time. I absolutely agree that they could further illustrate the importance of what the article emphasizes. Thanks again and I look forward to any other feedback you may have. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harvardheightshpoz (talkcontribs) 17:09, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Henricus

Hi! I saw the note you put on the nrhp errors list for Henricus. I wanted to change "per a local who knows the area" to "per an editor who knows the area" since I never actually stated where I stay now. But I thought it might be rude to change a signed comment myself. Can you please do that? Thanks! Til Eulenspiegel /talk/ 02:02, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, okay, sorry, I definitely don't want to reveal personal info or to pry in any way. Thanks for asking me to revise my note; i have just done so. Thanks again also for your pointing out there must be an error in our list system. The process of raising an issue and having it discussed at a central discussion, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#Henricus, seems to have worked out well this time. Do you know of any other errors? If so, perhaps you could edit directly at wp:NRIS info issues VA. --doncram 12:19, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article review

I moved several of the articles in Category:Submissions by Doncram ready for review into the mainspace. I also removed the category from User:Doncram/Grant County Courthouse District; it doesn't explain the significance of the district or mention any of the buildings in it, and it won't be ready for the mainspace until it's expanded. Also, in User:Doncram/Deming School, you have the NRHP listing date as "19", which should be fixed; I'm also a bit concerned about having a whole paragraph of that draft made up of quotes from the nomination form. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 03:01, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your moving several articles and for your attention to these two. I've revised both of these two. I had meant to add a bit more to the Grant County one but must have been interrupted or something; it's now expanded. And the "19" was meant to be "2005", now fixed. I don't happen to agree that there is any problem with quoting from the NRHP nomination document about why a place is NRHP-listed; that is an eminently appropriate thing to do. In conjunction with a lot of bullying-type behavior raising criticism on any point possible against me previously, I recognize that some tried to trump up ridiculous-in-my-view criticisms on the appropriate use of quotations. Not one of these criticisms has ever been held to be reasonable, except within hysterical ridiculous ANI discussions that should be entirely dismissed, as far as I recall. If you yourself are unsure, given the past hysteria, please go ahead and get some consultation. In this case the text is:

According to its NRHP nomination, it was deemed significant for "its direct association with the growth of education in Cheyenne" and "as an example of Art Deco architecture with elements of the International style in an educational building and as the work of a master architect, Frederick Hutchinson Porter." The building "is a substantial brick masonry structure built with community pride and permanency in mind, and which incorporates the standard designs advocated by early twentieth century educational reformers."

Plus the inline reference at the end. Which is fine and good. In fact i think it is very good to convey some of the NRHP nomination language. The term "built with community pride and permanency in mind", for example, is distinctive language that adds to the quality of the article for readers; it conveys the flowery, promotional tone of the NRHP document. I would not want to rewrite that into boring prose avoiding the document's language; that would detract from the quality of the article.
If you think a page number is needed in the inline reference, though, that could be added, I would agree, though I think the referencing is pretty clear and adequate already. Thanks again for your attention and caring on all points. --doncram 16:17, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, if half of an article is just direct quotes from the NRHP nomination, it's not really original writing, which is both a potential copyright problem and detracts from the quality of the article. If people want to see the exact language in the nomination form, they can click on the reference and read it. Second of all, while I'm all for well-written and interesting articles, including the promotional language from the nomination forms isn't the best way to accomplish that. There are ways to write an interesting article without using peacock terms to describe it; it's fine to quote a few with the disclaimer that other people think this, but they shouldn't be the main description of the builiding. I'll wait for a second opinion on Deming School, though whoever reviews it should be aware of this discussion. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 21:46, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is absolutely not a copyright violation. No way jose. --doncram 22:11, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
From WP:NRHPHELP#NRHP nomination forms,

If [NRHP nomination forms] are public domain, you might include text from these documents directly without paraphrasing, but it is desirable in either case to summarize them and paraphrase for better article quality.

...especially if the directly quoted text makes up a majority of the article and is in a promotional rather than objective tone.
If someone else wanted to write the article differently–or at all–they would have done it already. That's not how things work here.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 19:13, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
