Hi TSD. Welcome to the admin game. Can I suggest a hard promo block here since they've been spamming also? -- Longhair\talk 05:27, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Longhair: Didn't see the mainspace promotion. Block updated. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Hard block here too mate. You can bet they'll be here for disruption only with a name such as... Namefuckinme. -- Longhair\talk 00:14, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Alain Welter
hello
i wonder what could be a better ref than a book
regards
Alain Welter
Alain Welter (talk) 22:58, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there Alain Welter. There is nothing wrong with that reference, but more than a single reference are generally needed for a draft to be accepted as an article as they have to demonstrate that the subject (be it a company, person, product, etc) satisfies the relevant notability guideline (in this case, WP:ARTIST). The current sole reference does not suffice. I would also recommend reviewing the rest of the comment I left (editing where you have a conflict of interest is strongly discouraged as they undermine public confidence and risk causing public embarrassment to the individuals and companies being promoted). If you wish to continue working with the draft, then please read these instructions on how to disclose your connection (which it appears exists based on the username of your account). This guide to referencing and this one for writing your first article might also be of use. --All the best, TheSandDoctor Talk 00:04, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
hello again
i tried to edit as you suggested
what now ?
regards Alain Welter (talk) 09:43, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there Alain Welter. I would suggest reviewing the two guides that I linked above and try to find more reliable (independent) sources that back-up the information in the draft. The book (assuming it isn't self published) is a good start, but not enough on its own. --TheSandDoctor Talk 14:35, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
would an interview on RTL television do it ?
regards
awe
Alain Welter (talk) 15:10, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Alain Welter: Interviews do not demonstrate notability (unfortunately), but can be used to back up some statements in articles. --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:13, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
i seem to be unable to put the category correctly Artist Contemporary Art Paintings and Sculptures Luxembourg Europe
could some kind soul do this edit for me please ?
regards
Alain Welter (talk) 08:18, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there Alain Welter, that category does not appear to exist? Also, please don't re-add the draft text to its talk page. Talk pages are not for article content (that belongs on the article itself), they are administration pages where editors can discuss improvements to articles or other Wikipedia pages. --TheSandDoctor Talk 08:27, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Alain Welter (talk) 08:47, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Alain Welter: Hey Alain Welter, welcome to Wikipedia - I'm was just passing by, and I saw the article you were writing and thought I'd see if I can lend you a hand! First of all, I've moved it over to Draft:Alain Welter - everything is still there just how you left it, but by using the draft area of Wikipedia you can work on your article until you think its ready for review. That being said, TheSandDoctor above has pointed out that you probably have a "conflict of interest" as it looks like you're writing about yourself. Are you the Alain Welter? If so, I think having a quick read of these suggestions would be useful - namely "
Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. We want biographies here, not autobiographies.
" - I imagine that's pretty disappointing to hear, but by discouraging article subjects from writing their own autobiography, we ensure that our articles are neutrally written. There are some suggestions here if you decide you really want to write about yourself, but I'd encourage you to instead request an article be written.
- Finally, I'd like to ask you to stick around, and maybe see if you can help correct some errors on other people's biographies - Wikipedia always needs help, and we'd really appreciate yours! If you're interested in learning how to edit and improve other articles, have a read of this simple guide or just let us know! Regardless of what you choose to do, have a great day - TNT 💖 09:25, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
ty for your help and yes unfortunately i m the alain welter
i read many wikipedia suggestions and policies about it but who else could give more adequate informations as myself
as an example:nobody else then me has the copyright of the images posted in the draft/sandbox
also it s just facts (facts seem to be the most neutral you can post ) and yes i know it s not how wikipedia policies work but to me it seems to be a good start for an article and may be some day somebody else will finish and publish the article :)
hope dies last

Finishing up the div col deprecated parameters
Thanks for resuming the bot's fixing of deprecated parameters in {{div col}}. In case it's been too long, please remember to add {{col div}} to the list of aliases the bot recognizes and fixes. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:49, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: Alias now added and 1000 page run restarted. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:54, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! It looks like there are 7,100 in Category:Pages using div col with deprecated parameters and 800 in Category:Pages using Columns-list with deprecated parameters, so it shouldn't take too many more 1,000-page runs. I will be happy to mop up the leftover ones that are not suitable for bot action. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:27, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- Almost done! It looks like there are about 3,000 pages left between the two deprecated parameter categories. I've been chipping away at them, but I'd rather work on the edge cases once your bot has made a complete pass. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:02, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
- Do you have any time to clear out the last 1,000 or so pages? Most are in the columns-list deprecated parameter category. Thanks for all of your work! – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:29, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: I was just trying to figure out why the bot wasnt working. Turns out the category was empty I have gone ahead and deleted it pet your request. As for col-list, the first 60 or so the bot cant deal with due to the way the templates are used. When it has run out of pages it can do on its own, I will let you know and see if I can modify the bot. Failing that though, whatever is left will need to be done by hand. (I will let you know when). --TheSandDoctor Talk 03:43, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! My regexes at User:Jonesey95/AutoEd/doi.js are working for those tennis articles. You are welcome to steal them, or I can clean up after the bot. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:34, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- I had cleaned out the category for Template:Columns-list and I modified the template, only to find out that the template was used in the Wikipedia space quite a bit, and that the removing the deprecated template parameters broke a bunch of pages. I have expanded the deprecated parameter tracking to all namespaces, and now we're back to about 1,300 pages. Would it be possible for your bot to run through the category, but only through the following spaces: Wikipedia, Wikipedia Talk, Talk, User Talk, Template Talk, Portal, Portal Talk. The bot should NOT edit any User pages. Thanks in advance if you can do it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:41, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, at the above article the bot keeps replacing 3 columns to 2 and when I reverted it comes back and does it again, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 20:06, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there, that is per consensus in the thread at the top of my talk page (User_talk:TheSandDoctor#Deprecated_column_format). The template works differently now and the old way is deprecated and set to be removed entirely. Please do not revert it as we have been through this discussion above. (cc Jonesey95). --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:11, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- I should ask though, what device and operating system are you using Atlantic306? --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:13, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- Ipad safari, so how to convert two columns to three on ipad? thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 20:19, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Atlantic306: I just wanted to address why the bot re-ran the page. Pages which use the deprecated format slated for deletion (the deprecated format, not the page) are listed in Category:Pages using div col with deprecated parameters. When the bot corrects the template issues, the page is removed from that list automatically. Since you reverted the edit, it was readded and the bot happened across it again because of that. As for your device, IPads and other mobile devices are typically not very good at displaying layouts correctly due to their (sometimes odd dimensioned and) small screen sizes. Concerns about layout should be raised on Template talk:Div col, the bot is just enacting consensus and altering per the template. In the event that formatting or consensus changes, I will happily re-run the bot to make those changes (if need be) once the category is updated. --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:28, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- ok, chaging to 15 em gives me 3 columns in the new format, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 20:35, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Problems
- Last week's MediaWiki update was rolled back. This was because of a database problem. [2]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.

- An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.
- Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
- Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
- IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in July (previously scheduled for June). This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
- Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

- @Recwiki: Hi there, I would recommend reviewing our guide to referencing and this one for corporate notability. I would also strongly recommend reviewing this guide to creating your first article. Please note that WordPress sites are generally not considered reliable sources and should be avoided. As the draft currently stands, the sources (with one exception) are all primary and WordPress links. Demonstrating notability requires the existence of secondary reliable sources which "back up" the content of the draft/article. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know or as them at the Teahouse. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:40, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
Sir the article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/URC_building_values is without any references and i am providing some references so sir can u plz help me to publish my article.Recwiki (talk) 08:17, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Recwiki: Please see WP:OTHERSTUFF. Just because one bad page exists on Wikipedia doesn't mean that we should go around creating more bad pages. If the page you're working on needs more sources, add some! If you think that URC building values should be deleted, nominate it for deletion! Always look towards the betterment of Wikipedia. --TheSandDoctor Talk 17:31, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- WebM video files have smaller file size but still be of the same quality. Creating WebM files will take longer time. [3]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. This was supposed to already have happened but was delayed. For most wikis this will happen on 9 July. For the rest it will happen on 16 July. [4]
- All wikis now use the Remex parsing library instead of Tidy. This could cause errors. You can help fix the errors. [5]
Problems
- When you rolled back an edit it could get both the
Rollback
andUndo
tags. This has been fixed. [6] - Rollbacks from autopatrolled users were not marked as patrolled. This has been fixed. [7]
Changes later this week
- When you edit a link in the visual editor there will be two separate buttons to change which page the link goes to (target) or its text (label). [8][9]
- On the mobile version you can find a link to an editor's contributions from their user page. Now this will work even if they haven't created a user page. [10]
- When you edit a discussion on the mobile version you sometimes get your signature automatically added. This will now not happen if you have already added a signature manually. This is to avoid double signatures. [11]
- Structured discussions toolbars will have more style options. [12]
- When you look at Wikimedia code in Gerrit there will be a new interface. It is on by default for new users. This is also true for developers. This is to make it easier to understand what is happening. [13]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 July. It will be on all wikis from 12 July (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 10 July at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 11 July at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Today all administrators can edit CSS and JavaScript for the entire wiki. There will be a new user group for editing CSS and JavaScript. Administrators will no longer automatically be able to do this. This is because it is a security risk when all administrator accounts can edit JavaScript even if they never plan to or do not know how it works. You can read more. [14]
- Page previews will be on by default for new accounts. [15]

Prescription for unblock
@Jfalbert: just want to let you know i corrected this editor's unblock request that you rejected before. this editor is clearly new to the project and likely used the template and put the request outside the brackets as there are open requests that say "your reason here". hope this clears things up. 96.242.88.25 (talk)
- The reason that it was declined was purely procedural in nature because it was a duplicate, but I apparently missed one. Thank you for doing that though.
Also, please do not undo administrative actions, such as those related to unblock requests.--TheSandDoctor Talk 22:02, 14 July 2018 (UTC); edited 22:04, 14 July 2018 (UTC)- thanks for the AGF. i was reading the page and it was clear the person wrote {{unblock}} "your reason here". it was pretty daring but the intent was to ensure the request was properly posted and reviewed by one of you guys. 96.242.88.25 (talk) 22:55, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Stuck article creation
Hello, I was browsing my Watch list and noticed that a certain article draft is still being stuck in a perpetual limbo, being constantly declined for submission... If you don't mind, could you please look at it and perhaps provide some comment on an article's draft page about how it can be further improved or why exactly it is still being declined? Because from my point of view the person from that article has sufficient notability since he got the extensive coverage by publications such as The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Kotaku and others.Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom (talk) 19:46, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
