History
The first section of the motorway was opened to traffic on 1 June 2011 between Sasalı and Air base in Çiğli.[2] On 9 May 2015, the section between Air base and Koyundere (Menemen) was opened to traffic. On 15 February 2017 the tender to construct the motorway was awarded to a consortium of three companies, IC İçdaş, Kalyon and Astaldi. Like other otoyol projects in Turkey, the tender was awarded under a build-operate-transfer contract until 2027.[3] Groundbreaking for the highway took place on 5 April 2017 in a ceremony attended by Prime MinisterBinali Yıldırım and Minister of TransportAhmet Arslan. The US$408.2 million motorway was opened to traffic on 30 October 2019.[4][5]
