"Ragazzo solo, ragazza sola" is a version of David Bowie's first hit single "Space Oddity" with Italian lyrics by Mogol. Bowie recorded the Italian vocal on 20 December 1969.[2]
This special version of "Space Oddity" was commissioned for the Italian market and released as a single, in mono, in early 1970. Two Italian bands, Equipe 84 and The Computers, had recorded their own Italian versions of "Space Oddity" and Bowie's record company probably felt that this threatened the chances of Bowie's version in Italy. Instead of translating the lyrics of the original version Mogol wrote a love story about a young couple that meet on the top of a mountain[citation needed], "Ragazzo solo, ragazza sola" meaning "Lonely Boy, Lonely Girl".
"Ragazzo solo, ragazza sola" was included on the album Rare (1982). It was later included, in a previously unreleased stereo remix, on the 2009 two-CD special edition of the album David Bowie and on Re:Call 1, part of the Five Years (1969–1973) compilation (2015).[3]
