Kuch Toh Log kahenge (English:People Will Talk) was a Hindi television series on Sony Entertainment Television India. It premiered on 3 October 2011 and ended on 28 March 2013. The show was loosely based on the Pakistani television drama Dhoop Kinare.[1]
Plot
Kuch Toh Log Kahenge is a love story revolving around a team of doctors working at Kotnis Hospital in Lucknow.[2]
Former college friends Dr. Ashutosh Mathur and Dr. Mallika Trehan work at the same hospital. Dr. Mallika has feelings for Ashutosh. When a young female intern, Dr. Nidhi Verma, arrives at the hospital, sparks fly between Ashutosh and her, even though Ashutosh is significantly older. Mallika starts to make Nidhi's life hell. Nidhi inherits a house from an unknown man; however, the house is Ashutosh's father's home, which he wants at any cost.
Ashutosh's friend Armaan (Nitesh Pandey) and Nidhi's friend Rohan (Karan Wahi) try to persuade Nidhi and Ashutosh to reciprocate their love. Nidhi leaves Lucknow after selling the inherited house, which is then bought by Mallika. Mallika tells Ashutosh that he can get his paternal house only if he marries her. When he refuses, she marries a college friend, Jagan Mehta.
Nidhi starts working in an NGO where she meets an old man who turns out to be Dr. Ashutosh's adoptive father and her maternal grandfather, Dr. Ashish Mathur (Alok Nath). Ashutosh takes him home. Dr. Mathur persuades Nidhi's family to agree to the marriage of Nidhi and Ashutosh, and finally they marry.
Months later, Jagan charges Ashutosh with abducting Mallika. Ashutosh finds her in bad health. She reveals that Jagan had abused her and is already married and has children. Mallika asks to stay with Ashutosh - her goal being to ruin Nidhi. She tries to separate Ashutosh from Nidhi, but fails. Nidhi is now a full-fledged doctor.
Mallika is living alone, and pregnant with Jagan's child. Ashutosh helps her, but Nidhi disapproves. Ashutosh explains that he is helping Mallika because she is pregnant.
A patient, Aman, injured by gunfire, is brought into the hospital. He falls in love with Nidhi. Ashutosh tells Aman that Nidhi is his wife but is kidnapped by Aman's criminal brother. Nidhi rescues him with Aman's help. Nidhi and Ashutosh realize that they still love each other, and she returns to him.
Mallika apologizes to Nidhi and says that she is going to Australia to live with her brother. Nidhi discovers that Dr. Mathur was in love with his college friend Dr. Aradhana (Anju Mahendru), but did not marry her. She goes to Allahabad to Dr. Aradhana's clinic, tells her about Dr. Mathur, and asks her to come to Lucknow. Dr. Mathur tells Aradhana he had wanted to marry her but had to marry his principal's daughter to save him from humiliation. Aradhana feels sorry for misunderstanding Mathur for so many years.
The first season ends with Nidhi and Ashutosh celebrating their first wedding anniversary and announcing that Nidhi is pregnant.
