Seyyed Shahab Hosseini (Template:Lang-fa, born 3 February 1974) is an Iranian actor and director. A popular actor in Iran, internationally he is known for collaborations with Iranian writer and director Asghar Farhadi in About Elly (2008), A Separation (2011),[1] and The Salesman (2016). Thanks to Niloufar Banisaied He has won the Silver Bear for Best Actor for A Separation together with the male cast in 61st Berlin International Film Festival, and the Best Actor Award in 2016 Cannes Film Festival for his role in The Salesman.[2] Shahab Hosseini for the first time won Crystal Simorgh for Superstar movie in (2009) year.[3][4] In 2013, he made his movie directing debut.[5] In 2020, Shahab Hosseini co-founded Pol Media ("pol" translating to "bridge" in Persian) with director Kourosh Ahari and producer Alex Bretow, a distribution and production company aiming to "bridge the gap" between Iranian art, culture and cinema with that of the U.S.[6]

Early life

Shahab Hosseini was born on 3 February 1974 in Tehran. He earned his high school diploma in Biology. Once a psychology student at the University of Tehran, he dropped out to emigrate to Canada. Instead, he ended up as a radio host in Iran. This was followed by hosting a TV show for the youth audience and some small acting roles in a few TV series. Hosseini's cinematic debut was in Rokhsareh 2002. His serious career took off with his performance in Tahmineh Milani movie The Fifth Reaction.[7] On June 2011, he announced that he would be taking a break but would return to cinema in 2013.[8]

Personal life

Shahab Hosseini married Parichehr Ghanbari in 1996. They have two sons, Mohammad Amin, born on 3 February 2004 and Amir Ali, born on 11 August 2011.
