In 1951, Upendra Nath Barman, Birendra Nath Katham and Amiya Kanta Basu, all of Congress, won the North Bengal seat.[7] The winners and runners-up from Cooch Behar for subsequent elections are shown below. In a (by-election) in 1958[8]Nalini Ranjan Ghosh of Indian National Congress won.
