Shehnaaz Kaur Gill is an Indian actress, model and singer who works in television and films.[2] Gill began her modelling career with the 2015 music video, "Shiv Di Kitaab"[3] alongside Gurvinder Brar and followed it by starring in Kanwar Chahal's "Majhe Di Jatti"[4] in 2016.

In 2017, Gill debuted as an actress in Punjabi film Sat Shri Akaal England alongside Ammy Virk and Monica Gill.[5]

She rose to fame when she appeared in Bigg Boss 13 where she emerged as the second runner up.[6]

Early life

Shehnaz Kaur Gill was born and raised in Punjab. Gill is of Punjabi descent and belongs to a Sikh family. Gill did her schooling from Dalhousie hill top school and is a dropout from Lovely Professional University. Shehnaaz loved to act and sing and this was her passion since her childhood. She was keen on becoming an actress.[7]

Career

Modeling (2015 - 2019)

As a model, Gill's career begun when she featured in Gurvinder Brar's music video "Shiv Di Kitaab" in 2015. Composed by Jassi Bros, the song received positive reviews from the audience. However, Gill gained recognition for starring in Kanwar Chahal's "Majhe Di Jatti" in 2016, following it with Gejja Bhullar's "Pindaan Diyan Kudiyaan" in the same year. In the year 2017, Gill appeared in a number of music videos with various Punjabi singers including Guri, Karan Sehmbi and Ravneet Singh. Gill's most popular music video came with Garry Sandhu's "Yeah Baby Refix" which was further also used in 2019 Bollywood film De De Pyaar De starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul preet Singh.[8] Gill has also starred in some films associated with Punjabi cinema such as Kala Shah Kala in 2017 and Daaka in 2019.[9]

Bigg Boss 13 (2019)

In September 2019, Gill entered as a celebrity participant on Bigg Boss 13, the thirteenth season of popular Colors TV reality series Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan. The season ended in February 2020 and was won by Shukla, whereas Gill finished up in third place. Gill was titled as "The Ultimate Entertainer" on the show by Salman Khan.[10] A few days after she entered into the house, her first single, "Veham" came out and was widely appreciated because of her vocals, followed by some other singles including "Sidewalk", "Range" and "Ronda Ali Peti".[11]

In February, 2020, she signed another reality show telecasted on Colors TV, titled Mujhse Shaadi Karoge with her fellow Bigg Boss 13 contestant Paras Chhabra but it got terminated within a month because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[12]

Breakthrough and rise to prominence (2020 – present)

In March 2020, Shehnaz Kaur Gill appeared in Darshan Raval's single music video, "Bhula Dunga" by Indie Music Label, co-starring Sidharth Shukla.[13] The song defeated Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and became one of the 40 Most commented songs worldwide.[14] The song received positive reviews from the critics. Megha Thadani from Pinkvilla appreciated Gill and Shukla's chemistry and went on to say that, "their chemistry is beyond words, and we don't really need to express it. They've done a fabulous job as always, and look adorable together. Their performances are to the point. They'll make you cry, laugh and feel all the emotions."[15] Talking about their chemistry in the single, Gill said, “Well, it was like revisiting ‘Bigg Boss 13. ’My chemistry with Sidharth was the same — cute, genuine and beautiful. I was excited about shooting with him and I am glad with the result.”[16]

Gill has also appeared alongside Jassie Gill in a lyrical video, "Keh Gayi Sorry".[17] Gill then featured alongside Tony Kakkar in his new single “Kurta Pajama” which was released on 17th July, 2020.
