France participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. After using a national final for the previous two years, with both entries achieving low placings, France Télévisions decided to revert to their previous format of an internal selection.
Natasha St-Pier performed 14th on the night of the final, following Spain and preceding Turkey. St-Pier was one of the favourites to win, and at the close of voting she received 142 points, placing 4th out of 23 countries. This was France's best placing since the 1995 contest, and, as of 2020, France's best result since. The French televoting awarded its 12 points to Portugal.
