Alatskivi Castle
Alatskivi Castle (Estonian: Alatskivi loss, German: Schloss Allatzkiwwi) is a gothic-style castle in Alatskivi, Alatskivi Parish, Tartu County, Estonia, about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Tartu.[1]
The castle was originally built in the late 16th century,[1] but was rebuilt in 1880-1885 by Arvid von Nolcken and resembles the royal residence of Balmoral in Scotland (1853–1855, architect W. Smith), with its projecting corner towers but less grand. The main hall, dining hall, lounge, lobby etc. were refurbished from 2005 and it reopened in late 2011. Alatskivi Castle is set in a 130 hectare lush forest park.
