Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon[a] is an upcoming mecha-based vehicular combat game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is the first entry in the Armored Core series since 2013's Armored Core: Verdict Day and is set to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows in 2023.

Story

Armored Core VI is set on Rubicon 3, a distant planet.[1] On Rubicion 3, humanity had found a new energy source, which they wanted to use to further bolster the economy and its technological advancements. However, this mysterious energy source instead caused an apocalyptic event on Rubicon 3, engulfing the planet in flames. After its rediscovery a half century later, humanity once again rushes out to gain control over this mysterious resource. The player controls an independent mercenary piloting one of the titular Armored Cores, taking on jobs of extra-terrestial mega-corporations and Rubicon resistance groups.[1]

Development

In September 2016, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki mentioned that a new entry in the Armored Core series was in development, but it would be at an very early stage.[2] In January 2022, the development of a potential new installment of the Armored Core series was leaked due to a focus test. A ResetEra user shared details of footage he had been shown. In this leak, it was implied that the series would be taking a new direction, inspired by FromSoftware's recent games, such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring.[3]

In December 2022, the game was formally announced at The Game Awards 2022 with a CGI trailer.[1] On the same day, it was announced that Masaru Yamamura would be directing the title, taking over from Miyazaki, who had led the development initially. Yamamura had previously worked as a lead game designer on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.[1][4]
