The Charlotte Checkers are an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League set to begin play for the 2010–11 season. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Checkers will play their home games at Time Warner Cable Arena, which is currently home to a team of the same name playing in the ECHL.
The franchise is currently playing in Albany, New York as the Albany River Rats, and will continue to do so for the remainder of the 2009–10 season. On February 10, 2010, the relocation was officially announced.[1][2][3]
