Q1 (meaning Queensland Number One) is the world's tallest residential tower, when measured to its pinnacle (the top of its spire, 323m), and the tallest skyscraper in the Southern Hemisphere. Melbourne's Eureka Tower is 297.2m, but is the highest when measured to its roof, with 92 floors. In comparison, the Eiffel Tower is 300meters when its 24m pinnacle is excluded.
Q1 is located in Surfers Paradise, the tourism hub of the Gold Coast in Australia.
The design was inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch and the Sydney Opera House. The name was given in honour of members of Australia’s Olympic sculling team of the 1920s – Q1.
It has overtaken the 21st Century Tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as the world's tallest residential tower.
Q1 is the 20th tallest building in the world. This tower dwarfs the existing skyline of the Gold Coast, at least until the nearby 240m Soul, and 220m Circle on Cavill are built.
The observation deck at level 77 is the world's only beachside observation deck.
Q1 was designed by Atelier SDG, developed by The Sunland Group, and built by Sunland Constructions.
The building is supported by 22 piles, two metres in diameter, that extend 40 metres into the ground then up to four metres into solid rock.
