Carrier's argument about the passage has been almost completely ignored by mainstreams scholars and those who have written about it have rejected it as implausible, noting that, if Carrier were right, then the first reference to a person named "Jesus" would be unidentified. Since "Jesus" was an extremely common name at the time, it is highly improbable that Josephus would just throw the name out there and not explain which "Jesus" he was referring to until later. Unfortunately, Carrier's own absurd delusions of grandeur have given his readers a false impression of how his ideas have actually been received by scholars. undo
