Lovelyz (Korean러블리즈) is a South Korean girl group formed in 2014 by Woollim Entertainment and its company first girl group. The group consists of eight members: Baby Soul, Jiae, Jisoo, Mijoo, Kei, JIN, Sujeong and Yein. Their debut album, Girls' Invasion, was released on November 17, 2014.[1]

History

2014: Debut, Girls' Invasion

On November 5, 2014 Lovelyz's debut was first announced by Woolim Entertainment.[2] Prior to debut, Seo Jisoo withdrew for personal reasons.[3] On November 10, Lovelyz released the digital single "Good Night Like Yesterday". Their debut showcase was on November 12 at the K-ART Hall in Olympic Park, and their debut stage was the next day on M! Countdown.[4] Lovelyz's debut album, Girls' Invasion, and a music video for the lead single, "Candy Jelly Love", were released on November 17.[5] The album ranked ninth on Taiwan's Five Music Korea-Japan weekly chart and first on Japan's Tower Records albums chart.[6]

On December 21, the group took part in the annual music festival SBS Gayo Daejeon for the festival's segment Strong Babies which featured newly debuted K-Pop groups. Lovelyz performed "Candy Jelly Love" and "Moves Like Jagger" along with Red Velvet, Winner, and Got7.[7]

2015: Hi~, Lovelyz8 and Lovelinus

The group's album was re-released on March 3 with a new title track, "Hi~" accompanied by a music video for "안녕(Hi~)".[8] Lovelyz promoted "Hi~" on Korea's weekly music shows.

On April 17, Lovelyz began follow-up promotions on music shows with the other new song on their repackaged album, "Amusement Park."[9] They continued promotions until April 30. On April 22 Lovelyz participated in the KCON 2015 Japan M!Countdown show for 15,000 people, their first overseas activity.[10] On May 23, the group performed at Dream Concert in the Seoul World Cup Stadium.[11]

On August 27, Lovelyz performed at the Korea Brand and Entertainment Expo in Shanghai along with Infinite.[12] On the same day, Woollim Entertainment announced that Jisoo would be rejoining the group, and the mini-album titled Lovelyz8 through the official Twitter page.[13]

A pre-release single called "Shooting Star" was released on September 14. On September 30, the music video for the lead track, "Ah-Choo" was released, with a cameo appearance by Infinite's Hoya.[14] Their mini-album Lovelyz8 released on October 1, 2015.[1]

On October 31, Lovelyz was a guest on You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook where they performed an a cappella cover of Michael Jackson's song "Beat It". The performance was broadcast on the American Fox News Channel and written about by other foreign media.[15][16] Ah-Choo has maintained its position on most major Korean music charts through 2015 and into 2016, making it Lovelyz's biggest hit.[17]

Lovelyz held their first fan-meeting and mini-concert, "Lovely Day," on December 5 at Ax Korea. The tickets were sold out in the first five minutes after they went on sale.[18] On December 7, Lovelyz released the three track single album "Lovelinus", after the name of their official fan club. They released an accompanying music video for their title track, "For You."[19]

2016: A New Trilogy

Lovelyz's first reality show "Lovelyz in Wonderland" began airing February 2 on SBS MTV.[20] Their song "Ah-Choo" continues to remain in digital Korean music charts long after its release in September.[21]

On April 25, 2016 Lovelyz released their second mini album, A New Trilogy.[22] The title track music video "Destiny" was also released the same day,[23] debuting at number seven on the Gaon Digital Chart, making it their highest charting song so far.[24]
