Murgod is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India.[1][2] It is located in the Saundatti taluk of Belgaum district in Karnataka.It is situated 491 km from our capital city Bangalore and 54 km from district headquarters Belagavi.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Murgod had a population of 11033 with 5537 males and 5496 females.[1] Muragod has grama panchayath. It has 28 ward members. It has good bus facility.It is just 11 km from Bailhongal and 15 km from yaragatti.

Mythology

At the time of Mahabharata Murgod was called as Amarkalyan and Day by day name converted into Threeshigapura (in Kannada means Mooru koda) finally the name becomes Murgod. Murgod is the holy place for basava's saints and Shiva devotees. Shri mahant Duradhundishwara math and Shri Shiv Chidambara Mahaswami punya kshetra attracts devotees from across India.

Some other holy places in muragod are "Shri Mallikarjuna Temple" which is build as same as "Shrishail Mallikarjuna temple". Its ancient architecture is very attractive, "Pandavar Padi"(Pandavar Hill) There is myth that at time of mahabharath pandavas crossed through this village so that is called as "Pandavara Padi", "Siddappana Gavi"(Siddappa's Cave) when yadeyur siddalingeshwar came to this village they stayed in this cave.Three side of city is covered by hills, so it is very attractive for photographers and trekkers.

Other attractions around village are "Shri Kshetra Sogal", "Naveelathirth Dam Munavalli".

Economy

The bulk of the population is engaged in agriculture and related activities. Cotton and jowar (sorghum) are very well suited to the semi-arid climate. It is center business place for around the villages of karimani, rudrapur, sogal, somapur etc.In this village, will get type of bhel called "Sangheet Khara", one should visit this village should not miss it. Pottering is also main business for people of muragod. Potters made in this village export to Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh also. This village is famous for Green Bangles also. This has huge market in maharashtra, north karnataka. Prathmik Krushi Pattin Shakari Shanga Ltd. MURGOD One of The Best Society in Soundatti Taluka at Agricalthar Sectar Corporation Bank and Shri Mahanteshwar Bank. Shri chidambar co-op society,are the major banks in muragod. Shri akkamahadevi co-op society and Shri Jyoti co-op society and Parishrama Pattina Sahakari Sangha are the other finance sectors.

Education

Shri Mahanteshwar Shikshana Samiti Shri Mahanteshwar Shikshana Samiti is a top education society in murgod. It has high school, primary school, P U college(Arts), JODC(Job Oriented Diploma course) and D.Ed(Diploma in Education)courses. It was established 30 years back. It is working under the blessing of shri mahant shivoyogi and headed by Shri neelakanth mahaswamy. Dr. B.R.Ambedkar High School. Government Kannada boys and girls primary school. Shri shiv chidambareshwar educational institute which also providing good education to rural childrens, the chidambareshwar institute which has english medium as well as Kannada medium schools, this institute is organised by Shri Shiv Chidambar Math,
