In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the solar is a type of angel.

Publication history

The solar first appeared in first edition in Dragon #64 (August 1982),[1] and was reprinted in the first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2]

The solar appeared in second edition under the "aasimon" heading in the Monstrous Compendium Volume Outer Planes Appendix (1991),[3] and appeared for the Planescape setting in the first Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix (1994).[4]

The solar appeared in the third edition under the "celestial" heading in the third edition Monster Manual (2000),[5] and appeared under the "angel" heading in the revised 3.5 edition Monster Manual (2003).[6]

Description

The solar is one of the greatest of the angels, usually a close attendant to a deity or a champion of some cosmically beneficent task.

The solar appeared under the "angel" heading in Paizo Publishing's book Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary (2009), on page 12-13.[7]
