Feminism
[edit]"Her role in 'Sexy Beast' is of interest because she plays an archetype, the criminal's wife, exulting in combining her acceptance of his past with a celebration of the peaceful present - and a horror of his return to past criminality. But Redman transcends the criminal aspect of the film by playing the character as a woman who has simply had to deal, over time, with men. Whether men are murderous, thieving criminals, or more typical assholes, she projects the truth that in the end women have to make the same adjustments, smile the same smiles, and take the most important decisions."
--All the above is an inaccurate Feminist POV and not at all Encyclopedic. It needs to be removed. (82.44.79.30 23:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC))
Tautology?
[edit]"Her father Ronald died from a fatal heartattack..." It'd be awful to die from a non-fatal heart attack. Ossipewsk 23:26, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Arm
[edit]Someone should mention her gammy arm. Skinmeister 13:37, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- What has been written about her arm is complete nonsense. She was scalded when she was 16 months old, not as a teenager. (Sunday Times Magazine, December 16th 2007). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.111.115.92 (talk) 13:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Baby is clumsy?
[edit]The following statement is strange... "The niece of actress Joyce Redman, Redman is badly scarred on her upper left arm as a result of scalding herself with a pan of boiling turkey and vegetable soup when she was 18 months old." Given an age of 18 months, "as a result of being scalded" would seem more appropriate than "as a result of scalding herself". Date of birth error
[edit]If she was born in 1959 then how could she be a teenager when her father died in 1980? If this was her actual birth year then she would have been either 20 or 21 years old in 1980 certainly not mid teens! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.232.148.174 (talk) 23:06, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- She was a year ahead of my wife at Kingscliffe House School Brighton. My wife was born in October 1958 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Evan joiner (talk • contribs) 18:46, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- None of this is appropriate According to the Daily Telegraph she is just turning 50, I have changed and ref'd this in the article and on the basis of the former ref and these 2 comments I was clearly right to do so. Thanks, SqueakBox talk 03:50, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure the Daily Telegraph is more reliable then the government register office. If you insist on changing it to 1959 then it should note that he birth was officially registered in 1957. MilborneOne (talk) 07:33, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have added a note about 1957 I leave it to others to make their judgement on the sources.MilborneOne (talk) 07:39, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- It is perverse to prioritise the Telegraph article's date of her birth over the official national register, so we should include both, or even just the official one, especiallu because the Telegraph is only reporting 1959 as he 50th year because Redman herself has apparently used the wrong birth year for many years. This is very common in show business, but once the correct deate is established, surely it should be used as the correct info. Sah10406 (talk) 17:51, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Why does the birth date keep being reverted back to the incorrect 1959, with no source, when there was an official source that it is 1957? Sah10406 (talk) 22:40, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Now she seems to be born in 1957 and 1959, and both appear to be sourced... 85.217.45.181 (talk) 03:44, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- The Daily Fail link (reference 2) shows a copy of her Birth Certificate showing 1957. Normally, I'd trust the Daily Heil as much as I trust the smack head that hangs around the bus station, but I see no reason for them to fake a birth certificate. The IMDB is a upoorting source, not a main source.Gavinturner (talk) 01:50, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Also supported by FreeBMD here with, interestingly, three postems, including: "AT THE TIME OF AMANDA'S BIRTH THE FAMILY WERE LIVING AT 9 CONNAUGHT ROAD HOVE" Martinevans123 (talk) 15:36, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
...for nine years.
[edit]"with mobile phone designer Damian Schnabel, 36,[2] for nine years." Specifying his age and the duration of their relationship doesn't make for an enduring Wikipedia article. I'll alter it to "since 1999" based on the stated duration and the date of the source material. - Bazj (talk) 07:13, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Scalding incident
[edit]The article says it happened when Redman was 18 months old. This source, accompanied by an interview, says she was a teenager: http://amandaredman.org/biography.html.Syzygos (talk) 04:28, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure where it says teenager but the same site under articles it has I learned about being a survivor early on in my life. At 18 months I was badly burned after I tipped boiling soup over myself.. MilborneOne (talk) 10:07, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Apology the biography does say teenager, but the above is a direct quote from her on the same website. MilborneOne (talk) 10:08, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Another reference out of many for 18 months [1] says When she was 18 months old she tipped a pan of boiling turkey and vegetable soup over herself, and was so badly burnt, and so traumatised, that at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Sussex, she was pronounced clinically dead., perhaps the biography is just a typo MilborneOne (talk) 10:12, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Ealing
[edit]It's a minor point, but she doesn't live in Ealing, and the source cited only says 'West London'. She lives in Hanwell. I don't have a source for this, other than that she's my neighbour. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BearAllen (talk • contribs) 22:35, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have removed it and restructured the sentence to read better. Not sure where she lives is that notable but it could be re-added if a more up to date reliable source is found. MilborneOne (talk) 06:59, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Beware, even The Independent claims that Amanda is Joyce's niece: [2], saying "Her niece, Amanda Redman, stars in the BBC crime series New Tricks." IMDb is slightly more useful and says: "Many sources claim she is the aunt of actress Amanda Redman. However, this does not seem likely as Joyce Redman (who was born to a British father and an Irish mother, whose maiden name was McCormick) had no brothers and grew up in Ireland; while Amanda Redman's father Ronald (1929-1980) was born in London to parents from Yorkshire (his mother's maiden name was Butler) and grew up in the UK."
