Untitled[edit]

The Article doesn't sound encyclopedic currently The article on the Divya Prabhandam states that it was collated by Nathamuni in the 10th century, from the lost writings of the Alvars. Considering that it states that the Azhwars were all pre-8th century, and Aandaal's father Vishnucitta was definitely 8th century the date of 10th century saint given in the article is incorrect. While her texts in their current form are traceable only back to the 10th century, Aandaal as a person probably dates latest from atleast the 8th century Please cite the source which identifies Andal with Sridevi rather than Bhudevi. Spelling of Names[edit]

In the article, the town of Srivilliputhur is spelled variously as: Srivilliputhur, Srivilliputtur, and Srivilliputhoor. There is a link to a Wikipedia article about the town that also uses various spellings within a single article. Which spelling is preferred? I've changed all instances to Srivilliputhur for consistency. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalkcontribs 05:45, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

In the article, Periyalvar is spelled variously as: Periyalvar, Periyalwar, Periazhwar. The multiple spellings are referenced in this Wikipedia article. I've changed all instances to Periyalvar for consistency. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalkcontribs 20:56, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Tone of the Article[edit]

The tone of this article is not encyclopedic. Some passages express a specific point of view rather than presenting a neutral position. Perhaps an expert in the subject matter should review the information. My revisions are copyedits for grammar, spelling, consistency, and flow. However, there were portions of text that I hesitated to revise because edits could change the sense of the text. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalkcontribs 20:56, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Andal songs translations[edit]

The Andal and Nachiar Tirumozhi topics are getting added up with the translations provided in ft site as it is with the claim that they are poems.Being the very ancient Tamil literature Saint Andal's poem needs care and consideration before translating them. If it is necessary to include the unauthentic translated versions it is better to include them as the perspective of the translator instead of stating them as Andal poem.Or the translated version could include the reference to the original poem itself.

Disputed Edits[edit]

The article has been edited several times to reflect one point of view. Ignoring other viewpoints, in spite of valid citations being provided

Wikipedia NPOV principles are being violated, as the article is being presented with religious rigor, rather than taking into consideration academic aspects.

3025 BC versus 8th/9th century dating in reliable sources[edit]

@183.82.218.129: Why are you deleting sources and reverting the sourced content that is in the three sources? The earlier two, as well as S.M. Srinivasa Chari on page 11 state the 8th/9th century CE dating by modern scholars on Alvars chronology. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 17:10, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

The scholarly dating is 8th/9th century, which needs to be included in the lead and infobox. The references to support the 3025 BC were self-published and non-RS. The traditional dating of 3025 BC can be included in passing reference in the article body for completeness, as in Chari.--Redtigerxyz Talk 18:04, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
@Redtigerxyz: Indeed. I like your passing reference idea for completeness. For now, we have the IP and few new accounts like SriKrushna7 editwarring with the singular "Andal lived in 3025 BC" version, ignoring the scholarly publications and preventing any constructive edits. Despite invitation, the IP is not participating on this talk page. @SpacemanSpiff: (or @RegentsPark:) Any suggestions on how to proceed here? Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 03:04, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Reverted to what I think is the consensus version and temporarily protected. --regentspark (comment) 04:10, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
@RP: Thanks. @183.82.218.129:, @SriKrushna7: Once again, any comments to @Redtigerxyz's good suggestion? On other text you have added, can you find non-SPS, reliable sources? Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 05:25, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

I am not sure from where you are getting the idea of Andal being born in 8th century. It is laughable and this is what happens when an outsider puts out the information as he likes and publishes a book. Indeed 3025 BC is a wrong date. I re-edited it to post the correct birth date i.e 97/98th year of Kali Yuga (3102 BC) that puts the date around 3004 BC. Out of 12 alwars, the last alwar was Thirumangai Alwar who was born in 2706 B.C. Nalayira Divya Prabandhams were lost during the big 3500 year gap between Thirumangai Azhwar and Nathamuni. Andal birth date is clearly mentioned, why are you guys who have no idea of the sanatana dharma are tampering with the traditional accounts is beyond me. Should you guys push everything after the christ or something? I don't understand. Indeed it was a mistake on my part to say 3025 BC but the correct date is around 3004 BC. Research the alwars history, the last alwar was Thirumangai. I don't care if you bar me from editing the page, its just that wiki loses authority by pushing the dates. I am done...----Kalyan — Preceding unsigned comment added by SriKrushna7 (talkcontribs)

@SriKrushna7: Do you have a reliable source for this, per WP:V and WP:RS? Blogs, random websites and self-published sources are neither scholarly nor acceptable in wikipedia. If you read the pages in the sources cited, you will see support for 8th/9th century. @Redtigerxyz has suggested that we acknowledge the traditional hagiographies, an idea I like, per wiki's NPOV policy.
