Add author to occupation?

[edit]

I think it would make sense to add author to her occupation and introduction to her biography since her book was at the same comedic level as Tina Fey's

Singer in lead

[edit]

Why do I get reverted when I put singer in lead. It is in her infobox, and her singing and discography work is even mentioned in the lead, as well as in the article. Can someone please explain? Samuelloveslennonstella (talk) 04:45, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

She has released like one single over 10 years ago --FMSky (talk) 20:54, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
and performed on soundtracks of all three pitch perfect films, into the woods, the trolls films. sung on broadway. performed at the oscars and kennedy center. i think shes notable enough as a singer to qualify having it in the lead. FMSky Geraldo Perez.
i mean it literally mentions in the lead and in the article all the times she has SUNG and performed music, and it says singer in her infobox, as well as in the whole article--I mean, she has a discography section. Yet i keep getting reverted when i put singer in lead sentence. I guess the question is, why is "singer" not included in lead sentence, yet her music work is mentioned all throughout the article? i think singer should be included in lead sentence, can i include it? She is an actress who has some skill at singing and sings in some of her acting roles. She doesn't have a notable separate occupation as a singer, it is an adjunct to her acting career. Geraldo Perez (talk) 06:22, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. She is not a singer, she is an actress who sings. Someone like Ariana Grande is a singer and actor - multiple albums and many acting credits. Chris1834 Talk 18:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
She is notable as a singer, having won awards for it. She has performed in musical theater as well. She has a biography at singers.com. Most importantly, mass media, such as Business Insider and Vanity Fair describe her as a singer.--User:Namiba 17:14, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Singing and dancing are skills that musical theater actors are generally required to have. No question that she can sing and is good at it, it just isn't separate from her acting, it is a part of it, not a separate occupation. Look at her awards page, all for acting. Her discography is soundtrack albums for films she acted in and also sang as part the acting role. She had 1 single on her own in 2013 extracted from a soundtrack album that charted which might meet WP:NSINGER, but that is a single instance not indicative of singing as a notable occupation separate from her acting career so shouldn't be listed in intro per MOS:ROLEBIO where she is overwhelming referred to as an actress. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:39, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Her career as a singer and actress are both defining. Here and here are more examples of sources referring to her a singer. She is an award-winning singer, even if acting is the role for which she is primarily known. Being a singer does not need to be entirely separate other roles she has had. Given that reliable sources often describe her as both a singer and actress, that is how we should describe her per MOS:ROLEBIO.--User:Namiba 19:43, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A compromise that could work would be having it in the infobox but not in the lead --FMSky (talk) 19:49, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note b in MOS:ROLEBIO says a role shouldn't be included if "the role is auxiliary to a main profession of the person". This is exactly what singing is to actors in musicals. She hasn't won any singing awards, just acting awards for her roles in musicals. Some reliable sources refer to her as actor and singer when her singing ability is being discussed, she is normally referred to as just an actor. She demonstratively does not have a notable career as a singer independent of her acting. Singing isn't an occupation so shouldn't be in infobox either in the occupation attribute. A similar situation is with Hugh Jackman (see Talk:Hugh Jackman#RFC about listing singer in lead sentence), overwhelmingly known as an actor with a few roles that demonstrate singing ability. Under occupations, add “Director” in addition to “actor” “singer”. Source: “She made her directorial debut with the drama Woman of the Hour (2023).“ 45.46.21.77 (talk) 04:41, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

She has made a directorial debut and should be noted as such 73.116.69.41 (talk) 13:54, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
