Talk:Balthier
Balthier was one of the Video games good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Alternate Spelling
[edit]- In the Official FFXII Japanese site, they spelled Balthier as Balflear. So shouldn't the spelling be changed?
- The site is in Japanese so it will obviously be different than the english version. If you play the English version of the demo it is spelt Balthier. There is no english website yet but I can scan the instruction manual as well as take screen shots of the demo if you want proof. --Ichigo 00:24, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, no, thank you. I understand now =)
His Archadian Suaveness
[edit]I think Balthier was easily the most enjoyable character in FFXII. Vaan was an annoing little kid (though his awkward lack of tact made me laugh sometimes), Fran was admirable, obviously, but somewhat soulless, Ashe and Basch were little else than walking statues— honestly, the guy you see every ten feet in any town has more personality. Penelo seemed too peppy about nothing though she provided Larsa (my second pick) with something to fixate on. Reddas was too much of an "old, wise" character to be a top pick, and I cannot count the times I died because he had no Potion Gambit. It was really hard to wean myself off of Larsa's Hi-potions, even though he did ruin my 54-chain that one time...
Anyeway... Balthier was easily the best character in the game. Challenge that, I dare you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daganolson (talk • contribs) 23:55, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

All right. I will do a preliminary review before undergoing a full review.
First of all, the lead section looks good so far. It may need to summarize the creation of the character itself though. Also, there may be some inconsistent date formats as well. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 05:10, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think I took care of the last of the inconsistent dates. – Bellum (talk) (contribs) 23:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Very good. Also, fansites such as FF Shrine are not to be used as a reliable source, the original sources used by FF Shrine should be used in their place. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:06, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Which fan sites? I can't tell which you mean, I don't see any FF shrine references, maybe someone already removed them. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:52, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I was only wondering if there are any fan sites that are used as sources, that's all. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:01, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oh ok! I checked, none I recognize. Also, I added some more creation info to the article, and added some of it to the lead, so that should address all issues so far. Keep em coming! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:15, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, the article is much better than it was at the start of this GA process, so perhaps it could be passed? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 13:56, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

All right then. It's a pass! Thanks to everyone for improving the article so far. The article looks stable, has no original research or citaion issues and is neutral overall. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:19, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
There is an unsourced statement in the article claiming that Balthier was originally the protagonist of FFXII. Jonathan Hardin' (talk) 18:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- If I remember correctly, Edge wrote an article about Balthier, but the site linking to it could be a dead link. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 18:56, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have a link from Edge where they state it as a fact, I just found it. Lets propagate this through the Vaan, Balthier, Characters and main FFXII articles.Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:55, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- But how do we know which one came first (Basch or Balthier). This Balthier tidbit seems really strange to me, Edge is the only source and it's not quoted from a Square Enix official. Whereas the source for Basch is straight from a developer's mouth. Edge could have made a typo... Jonathan Hardin' (talk) 17:31, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's true, but they may not have, so don't we include it because Edge magazine is a reliable source, and Square did not contradict it in that interview? Also, do we know that Edge is referring to the same interview? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:53, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- We don't know what Edge is referring to, but we know for sure that Hiroshi Minagawa said Basch and made no mention of Balthier. I don't know what we should do really. Jonathan Hardin' (talk) 21:27, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
