GA Review

[edit]
This review is transcluded from Talk:Bill Lange/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
Lead
  •  Done*How come the birth and death details don't match in the lead and infobox?
  •  Done*Birth and death details also don't match between the infobox and the main article sections.
  •  Done*Are any other details in the infobox seemingly wrong?
All inaccurate information has been corrected.Neonblak (talk) 12:56, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done*"William Alexander Lange (pronounced/læŋ)[1] (June 6, 1871 – July 23, 1950), also known as "Little Eva",[2] was an American center fielder in Major League Baseball," I would say he was a baseball player before saying what position he played. Otherwise it's presumptious to the non-baseball fan.
  •  Done*"Chicago Colts & Orphans" Is this the actual team name? If not you need to change the ampersand (&) figure with the word "and".
  •  Done*"During his time in the Majors, he once led the National League in stolen bases, and was among the leaders in several other offensive categories including home runs, and batting average." Was this for one season or all-time?
Career
  •  Done*"It was not until 1894, before he played center everyday, the position in which he played the rest of his career." This sentence doesn't make sense. It's either incomplete or needs re-wording to correct the emphasis. What happened in 1894?
  •  Done*"On July 4, he stole five bases in one game against the Louisville Colonels." Is/was this a record? If not, why is it so notable?
Five stolen bases in one game is not a record, however it is a notable achievement, such as hitting three home runs in a game is a notable achievement, even though the record is four. I can try and think of way to say it that it means something to the non-baseball enthusiast.Neonblak (talk) 14:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Retirement
  •  Done*Why did her father forbid her marrying a baseball player? Why did his retirement still permit the marriage?
  •  Done*How come he resisted offers to return to baseball after his divorce?
In finding a source that better explained these reasons, I also added content which I decided to make a new section "Early life" which covers his childhood and minor league baseball better.Neonblak (talk) 17:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Post-retirement
  •  Done*"Organized Baseball" How come baseball is capped?
The source had it capped as it represents a collective agreement, but it was not an actual contractualized organization. I uncapped the three incidents where it was mentioned.Neonblak (talk) 16:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
General
  •  Done*Numerals and units, e.g. 92 times, need to have non-breaking spaces in between the figure and unit. See WP:MOSNUM for more details.
  •  Done*Why are some dates wikilinked but not others?
Unwikied all dates in the body except for the by|year.Neonblak (talk) 16:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A few things to do, but hopefully nothing majorly substantial so I'll put it on hold. Peanut4 (talk) 22:58, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good suggestions, I will get to work on these as soon as possible.Neonblak (talk) 03:43, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, finished with the corrections that you mentioned, all great information that will help me in susequent article expansions I have planned. Please, let me know if you see anything else that will help this article out.Neonblak (talk) 17:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spot on. Well done. It's now a good basis for any further expansion you can find. If you were to aim for higher than GAN, I would suggest trying to find any more details to expand it further, but maybe also a peer review. Well done, and the best of luck with your work.
