Evelyn Waugh

[edit]

Far too much of this article is about Evelyn Waugh and his feud with Cruttwell, indeed it reads like an appendix to Waugh's article rather than about Cruttwell in his own right. An episode in his life that is covered in two sentences by the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography seems to have taken over the whole Wikipedia article. Indeed most of the sources are Waugh biographies. Much of it should be excised. Also, the article claims his history of the Great War has been criticised. However this is sourced from Humphrey Carpenter who as far as I am aware is not a military historian. If Cruttwell's history has been criticised in academic journals or by fellow military historians this would be notable but not if a literary biographer with no military expertise has apparently found fault in it.--Britannicus (talk) 20:02, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've not been watching this article, so I've only just seen this post, which makes a reasonable point. As this article is due to be WP:TFA in the not-too-distant future, I'm addressing the issue by reducing the Waugh-related content and finding more to say about Cruttwell's reputation as a historian. I think you've done a great job expanding the article and improving its quality (and achieving featured article status). You've made the article a much more substantial and rounded biography that more accurately represents his life than it did before. Thank you. – Britannicus (talk) 23:55, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
