This channel is indeed useless, and will continue to be.

Ever since it's first day of broadcast, the "token" ethnically-diverse newscasters were laughable. Now they don't do news, and the channel is officially worthless.

Something interesting that came out of Toronto1 and the CHUM deal was CityTV being given rights to broadcast Monday Night Football in 2005, which Toronto1 previously had rights to.

If this channel is around with it's current "image" in 10 years, I'll be flabbergasted. It should be scrapped and sold for parts. I'm sure there's someone out there who could use the frequency for, say, a 24 hour traffic channel? Or maybe a 24 hour stock ticker. I mean, at least people would *watch* those.

The pathetic thing about Toronto1, is despite all of it's failures, it was one of the FIRST channels (second only to CityTV) in Toronto to broadcast in ATSC (HDTV over UHF airwaves). Of course, no HDTV content except rebroadcasts of football from ABC. Even today, major players such as Global and OMNI1 still refuse to unveil this next-gen technology. Perhaps had Craig not spent so many millions of $ on HDTV equipment to comply with a CRTC deadline that was in the end lifted, they'd not in be such dire straits.

I can't believe that SunTV is hijacking CBS' Superbowl Commercials show tonight (January 31, 2009). I mean, we are denied all these commercials in the first place, and now SunTV, a Canadian station wants to relive the past from all the commercials we were denied. How hypocritical and pathetic. What a useless station indeed, just like the rest of these Canadian ones. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.220.122 (talk) 02:14, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Worthless?

[edit]

A 24-hour traffic/stock/news channel? CablePulse 24 already exists, albeit on cable-only. I think it should become a full-blown TVA affiliate. User:Raccoon Fox Talk 14:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I highly doubt that there is a large enough audience for a full blown private french language television station in the GTA or southern Ontario market. It just needs to pick up better programming, maybe try picking up some foreign cable network shows and hopefully cable companies across the country will begin to put it on basic cable and treat it like a superstation like tbs is for example. If not it would make a good addition to another national or semi-national network some day. 74.109.62.238 23:04, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly there isn't a large enough market for a TVA station in Toronto alone. But add rebroadcasters in Windsor, Penetanguishene, Welland, North Bay, Sudbury, Hearst, Temiskaming Shores and Timmins, and presto, there's your francophone audience. And it's not like the station could do any worse that way than it's doing as it is — in fact, the Franco-Ontarian audience is so underserved when it comes to local television that it would make the station an instant institution. Bearcat (talk) 20:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if not a TVA affiliate for Ontario (then again what's the purpose of TFO and CBLFT-TV/CBOFT-TV?), then why not turn SUN TV into a nationwide network? The idea of repeaters for (at least) the Ottawa/Gatineau metro area, to me, sounds horrid. When I've watched TV here in Ottawa, my old 1980s-era (now dead) TV could pick up stations like CBOT-TV, CJOH-TV, CFGS-TV, and even TVOntario very well; however the stations that had repeaters, like Citytv, A-Channel, and OMNI, were physically impossible to pick up terrestrially (thus normally forcing me to go cable). This is a different scenario to living in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where I could pick up both Providence and Boston stations (even the weak ones) with ease. If Quebecor is serious about this, then they should turn it into a nationwide network with actual stations instead of repeaters of the main Toronto station. What goes on in Toronto (except for legislation, of course) is of no concern to me in Ottawa (whereas when living in Rhode Island whatever was going on in Boston was of concern to me since I find it easier to tell people that I'm from Boston instead of Rhode Island, since people would then assume I live on Long Island). Why not? -Daniel Blanchette 02:22, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd expect at least a couple of the Ottawa repeater stations (CHCH-TV and CIII-TV) are underpowered garbage because they're severely short-spaced to CBC in Kingston and Montréal, respectively. Basically they're little more than LPTV operations just because their owners didn't want to end up way up on UHF somewhere. I question whether either should've been built, but that's another matter. In any case, your now-dead 1980's-era TV will likely not pick up 20 Ottawa, as a digital-only signal in a town that's badly lagging other third-world capitals (such as Mexico City) in digital transition. --66.102.80.212 (talk) 06:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Toronto1.jpg

[edit]

Image:Toronto1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Replace?!

[edit]

How can Sun TV News - an all-news channel - replace CKXT if CKXT is all movies and no news? Until I read the article on CKXT, I had assumed that somewhere in it, it would refer to CKXT transitioning to an all-news TV format, but evidently it didn't. Did Sun have to agree to give up its over-the-air licence in order to obtain a specialty cable channel licence? If not, then are they just bailing out of the CKXT operation? GBC (talk) 17:42, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

{{editprotected|CKXT-TV#Digital_television_and_high_definition}} Please remove "CKXT-DT-2 in Ottawa will relocate to channel 33 after transition" (in the DTV section) as contradictory to [1] which has the station going dark in this market

There is no need for protection. You can fix it yourself.  █ EMARSEE 16:48, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
