North American Release Dates
[edit]Just wanted to say thanks to whoever filled in the release dates. I created that table because I couldn't find that info, in the hopes that someone else would know. Much appreciated. - ZM —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.64.185.82 (talk) 13:23, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Ceodore/Theodore
[edit]Sorry about that. I'll just lay out my argument real quick. First off, I'd agree with you on Theodore, if it hadn't been spelled as "Ceodore" in the V-Jump article. V-Jump has an extremely good track record for this sort of thing, and it's usually the first place Square-Enix releases new information. The article also used all of the proper (Japanese version) romanizations of other characters, such as Cecil Harvey and Cain Highwind. It's also unlikely that they would select Ceodore unless it WAS the proper romanization, just because Theodore is clearly the much more normal choice.
Now, we can also assume that the boy is named after Golbeza, as FFIVDS reveals that his real name is "Ceodore/Theodore". The thing here is that, it WOULD follow a sort of naming convention within the family; Cecillia, Cecil, and Ceodore. I wouldn't be surprised if their father had been named Ceolbeza.
Anyway, with it being spelled out in English by the very source that is referenced heavily in the article, and being as how that's the closest thing to an official romanization available, I'd say it's more safe to use that, whereas Theodore would be verging closer to OR.
Your thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WtW-Suzaku (talk • contribs) 05:55, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh. They actually used "Ceodore" in V-Jump then? Well conflict's over, haha. I only insisted on "Theodore" because it's a real name, but I didn't know there was an official Romanization.—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 06:05, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Actually the name appears to be "Theodor" as the US version called it in Golbez' childhood. Fractyl (talk) 03:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- The family naming scheme would make a valid argument, except for the fact that while Cecilia and Cecil are real names, "Ceodore" is not. One could just argue that they "Cecilia" as the female connotation of Cecil. Golbez and Cecil's father's name is officially still unknown. Cecil and Theodore are both Anglo names. - Uh, hello? Does Kluya ring any bells? Yellow Mage (talk) 10:00, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
US release?
[edit]Ok I know it's not out yet stateside translated, but whatever phone it comes out will make some fast cash. Is there plans in the works for this yet? Please update here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeydo (talk • contribs) 18:52, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- There are no plans for a NA release. And even if there is one, it should be updated at the article instead of the talk page, and presented with references or citations from reliable sources. Talk pages are forums, yes, but only for the purpose of achieving a neutral point of view for the article, and not a forum for general discussion of the subject itself. — Blue。 14:55, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- American phones aren't powerful enough. That's why Agito and The 3rd Birthday were changed to PSP exclusivity (although in that case even Japanese phones aren't powerful enough (which, looking at released screenshots, is obvious). We'd have to wait for 4G to get anywhere near the required power level for them!) This same argument can be used for the mobile versions of FFI & II (which aren't needed anymore thanks to the PSP versions!) Yellow Mage (talk) 10:09, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
"Do you guys have any more plans to remake FINAL FANTASY IV in the future? A full blown remake of FINAL FANTASY IV for a more powerful console, such as the Sony PlayStation 3, would be epic!
Tokita: We just remade it, so it's a bit of a stretch... [Laughs] Currently the sequel, FINAL FANTASY IV the After: Tsuki no Kikan [tentative title], is available for mobile phones in Japan. We'll do our best to make this game available for our overseas audiences as well!" [1] A US release is a possibilty YeahYeah SureSure (talk) 00:56, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Gilbart/Edward
[edit]Shouldn't we be using Gilbart instead of Edward, seeing that this game is so far Japanese only, and assuming the character's name as Edward makes it speculative that an English version would be made? Edward is known as Gilbart in the Japanese version. — Blue。 20:46, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think it's really a big deal. I mean, it is the same character. Unfortunately, I can't think of any articles to back up my argument in the scope of Wikipedia, so whatever. I dunno.—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 01:18, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I thought of an argument, although it's limited to this page and I kind of doubt it might have much impact. Anyway, this page already uses nothing but English terminology, like "Dragoon" (literal Japanese is "dragon knight") and "Eidolon" ("phantom beast").—Loveはドコ? (talk • contribs) 01:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- While the game is japanese, many outside japan are more familar with the english names. Fractyl (talk) 01:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, if we're to change it back for the English audience, shouldn't we be changing Ceodore to Theodor, since Cecil named his son after his brother? FFIVDS have confirmed to us that Golbez's real name is Theodor. — Blue。 05:32, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- It hasn't been stated anywhere that Ceodore is directly named after Theodor, actually, and their names are written differently in katakana, besides (Ceodore is セオドア (Seodoa) and Theodor is セオドル (Seodoru)). I'd also like to point out that phantom creature and Eidolon are used interchangeably in the DS release, with phantom creature used as a descriptor or for the sake of not constantly repeating Eidolon. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 20:44, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Also, changing Edward to Gilbart and then leaving all the other English names and terminology (Kain, Kluya, Golbez, Dragoon, Eidolon, and I'm sure many others) smacks of bad editing. Either stick with the English names, as the other FFIV article already does, or change them all. I don't really care, but most English players would probably get more out of it if it used the English terminology. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 20:49, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Problems with summary....
[edit]Can someone actually define what sort of problem this article has with its so-called "long" plot section and "embedded lists" in the characters section? — Blue。 17:29, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Per a discussion at the Video Game Wikiproject talk page, that plot section is 15kb. This is quite ridiculous for a mobile game, and 2.5 times the size of the plot summary used for at least one other Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy VIII. Not only that, but the level of detail given to the game's plot in this article is undesirable - per per the Video Game project's guidelines for articles and what Wikipedia is not, plot summaries should be concise as the article should give more weight to the game's real world aspects, such details of it's development and reception by critics, as opposed to fictional aspects such as plot details. A paragraph for each chapter is unecessary when the whole plot (or at least the plot of the already-released chapters) can be summarized into two or three paragraphs. The plot section (at least until User:Oscarthecat began working on it) and the character section are way too long - they can (and should) be re-written to be more concise. NeoChaosX (talk, edits) 23:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, never mind! There's already another place willing to use such information. — Blue。 04:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Japanese names.
[edit]It should be mentioned in the article that there are actually two Japanese names - the first one is the one already listed, but if you see the Japanese WiiWare website you'll see that it's named "Final Fantasy IV: The After Years - Tsuki no Kikan." So it's called The After in the mobile version and The After Years in the WiiWare version. Just thought it should be mentioned. 208.101.133.104 (talk) 13:49, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Article Revamp
[edit]I'm planning on revamping and reorganizing the article somewhat, so I figured I'd lay out some of the changes I intend to make:
- The lead-in section of the article will be simplified, with a simple summary of release information for the original mobile version and the WiiWare port, along with a short, basic outline of the plot and gameplay in relation to the prequel.
- The Gameplay section seems pretty much fine.
- The Plot section will be moved to after the Gameplay section, and needs to be revised.
- WiiWare section will be changed to Release History, with subsections for both Mobile and WiiWare versions, since the Mobile versions were released in a different order and number of installments.
- Characters section needs to be either completely revamped or removed, it's far too long and clutters up the article, and all of the information can already be found, in greater detail, on the Final Fantasy wikia.
- Creation section will include more information about the localization, including the translation, editing, and censorship.
- Reception section will more clearly distinguish between the Mobile and WiiWare versions.
I'm gonna go ahead and start working. Suggestions welcome. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 10:00, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
