The result of the move request was: moved. Supporters are inline with existing naming convention Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sportspeople)#Diacritics. (non-admin closure) Melmann 20:08, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Haris Seferović → Haris Seferovic – Name appears to be spelt without the diacritic. His club and national team websites spell his name without the diacritic, as does the subject himself on his Instagram page. The name is spelt with the diacritic in its place of origin but apparently not in the subject's native Switzerland. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:55, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

- Weak support per nom, although I always have a hard time when the common spelling is the "incorrect" spelling.--Ortizesp (talk) 20:51, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- It's no more incorrect than Christian Pulisic or "Weird Al" Yankovic. People aren't constrained to spelling their surname the way their foreign ancestors did. 2A00:23C5:E187:5F00:E5FC:78CB:1DBB:9A74 (talk) 18:52, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
- I support the move. Rupert1904 (talk) 21:57, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Missing diacritics are common on the internet in order to get more followers/likes to avoid rare letters, as is the frequency of omission in diacritic-less languages. Instagram / shirts are not a valid source. Example: UEFA profile Abcmaxx (talk) 22:55, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Birth date wrong?
[edit]Hi, I don't really know what formatting is causing this issue but the birth date should read 1992, not 1980, and even when I try to make the edit in the article is still says 1980 in the info box. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emptybathtub (talk • contribs) 20:49, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Emptybathtub: 1992 is the correct year. There is some disruptive editing going on from a few IP addresses, and I've requested temporary semi-protection of the article. DanCherek (talk) 21:21, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
Ethnic origin
[edit]The article says Seferovic is of "Bosniak" origin. One of the two sources cited for this fact (in Turkish) has since suffered from link rot, the second one (in English) uses the word "Bosnian". Bosniaks are an ethnic group, while "Bosnian" can refer to natives and/or inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina, regardless of ethno-religious ties. Bosniaks are typically Muslims. According to another, francophone source used in the article, he does identify as a Muslim. However, that same source claims he is of *Montenegrin* origin. Which and how many of these claims are accurate?Quanstizium (talk) 21:45, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Haris Seferovic → Haris Seferović – To make it crystal clear, my goal is to revert the previous move. Relying on club/national team websites, when the UEFA website should have precedence, and to rely on social media, which is baffling to me, doesn't make the cut. Wikipedia has been and should be better than this. In my Wikipedia experience, I always looked here to check for diacritics that the media ignorantly ignores. Is Wikipedia going to submit to mainstream ignorance? The Replicator (talk) 20:47, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Is there any reason UEFA should take precedence, other than, of course, the fact that their spelling supports your preference? Mattythewhite (talk) 22:57, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe the fact that national associations are members of continental confederations and not the other way around rings a bell...? The Replicator (talk) 10:36, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, although I don't see why they're more authoritative with regards to orthography. But if we're going down that road, I'll raise your UEFA with my FIFA. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:57, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
