[edit]Hi Richard...
Just checking in to see what happened with Editor # 2 re my earlier consent on the JBA Haggin bio. Tho I just tonight went and read your great Wiki on your Judge Hiram Bond page. So now, as I didn't see any reference to JBAH bio, I can only "assume" JBAH's bio didn't make it through the Editor #2 evaluation. If so, I feel badly about it all.
Because that challenge really was the very first time in all my web years, that a copyright issue has ever come up. As I also pointed out to Editor
- 2, I always give credit where credit is due... in two places. At the top
part of the page and then also in the footer. And could only leave that decision up to his and/or anyone else's Wikipedia's discretion. Plus I told him we all love Wikipedia! It's a incredibly wonderful undertaking! And always has been.
On my own UPside "learning curve" however, just last week I contacted a web developer on another issue (helping me with my PHP project) and as if by magic... his footer notice that greeted me is totally great! So when I saw it, I instantly thought of you! And me! While as for me, think I will follow his lead and redo all my footers to state my personal equivilent as this:
©1998-2008 Linda Haggin Peck. All content of this web site is protected under United States copyright law (Title 17, U. S. Code). Go take a look!
Plus, he provides a link to this huge page! :-)
http://www.copyright.gov/title17/
I don't know how you feel, but to me, when someone, anyone (you or me) creates a "collection" of various elements, we are actually creating a brand NEW copyrighted "version". Comprised of many individual elements. I also think it must fall into "The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998". Because in backtracking my original posting via the WayBackMachine archive (to explain to Editor #2) I actually posted that JBAH bio in January 1998... right when the Digital Millennium Act had just happened one month earlier.
So regardless of how this ultimately all "fleshes out", just thought we both may indeed need appropriate "lingo" and that easy title17 mention appears to be IT! And especially for my NEW site, which will really encompass more than I ever bargained for. :-) It's huge so also will take me forever to do! Really slick software solution tho! I now just have to learn PHP as I go.
So do keep in touch, and big congratulations on your Hiram Bond page. I like it! It reads really well! You did a great job!
With all kindest regards,
Linda

Our copyright policy
[edit]Information from copyright sources must be rewritten entirely in your own words, not copy-pasted from another source. It requires more than paraphrase to be an original work. Please see WP:COPYRIGHT for a further information. This material must be rewritten or it will be removed. Though Linda Peck can of course give usa GFDL license for her own web page, it appears very likely that the material on the page cited is a copyright violation of a 1928 work still under US copyright. Since he is clearly notable as a mining developer, and probably in horse-racing as well, the best course would be to rewrite the portion of the article devoted to that. The material about his ancestry is not relevant except in the briefest outline. The praise of him in general terms does not belong in an encyclopedia at all, just his accomplishments. As reviewing administrator, were I not convinced of his notability, I would not be offering you this chance to rewrite DGG (talk) 09:38, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The article is in fact under public domain having been ppublished before the protection period. Also I think that Linda Haggin Peck might be able to both change wording and add info that I would have trouble finding. RichardBond (talk) 23:18, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Haggin
[edit]I realize this is just a stub. JBA Haggin figured prominently in the mining histories of California, Nevada and Montana, at least, not to mention the world copper industry of the late 1800's. He was also heavily involved in Imperial Valley real estate and was a major force behind the Desert Land Act of 1877. Is there any intent to flesh this out more? I could undertake that but am not sure when I'd get to it. Regards Jwilsonjwilson (talk) 00:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
