Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on October 11, 2010.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that John Albert Taylor chose to be executed by firing squad to embarrass the state of Utah?

Information, please?

[edit]

Have any of the specialists in the general area(s) of crime and punishment found any information on this man's life and/or the circumstances of the crime? It doesn't make any difference to the victim but perhaps it would be of value to others. Thanks. (71.22.47.232 (talk) 21:54, 26 June 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Dates don't match up

[edit]

The article as of 11 October 2010 says that the murder of Charla King took place in summer, 1988, and that Taylor was released from prison in 1989. This would seem to give Taylor a really good alibi for the crime.

I assume one of those dates is a typo. Perhaps it should be corrected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.74.13.100 (talk) 12:34, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to list this article as a GA. Consider the below suggestions for further improvement. Cheers, Nikkimaria (talk) 14:05, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Writing and formatting

[edit]
  • "He moved to various locations as a youth" - wording is very vague. Would it be accurate to say he moved frequently during his youth?
 Fixed.
  • "her daughter Charla...the head...the mouth" - either change the "the"s to "her", or add "the body of" before "her daughter"
 Done.
  • "dropped off Charla" -> "dropped Charla off"
 Done.
  • "Taylor arrived from Florida" -> "Taylor had arrived from Florida"
 Done.
  • "Taylor shared his pizza with his uncle Gordon Lee while joined by attorney Ed Brass and Catholic priest Reyes Rodriguez" - grammar, and didn't he fire the attorney earlier?
 Fixed.
  • Don't wikilink the same terms multiple times, particularly not well-known terms like Florida
 Done.
  • "Shortly before midnight, January 26, 1996" - so, was 11:59 or 12:01 January 26? Not clear
Fixed. Rephrased the section in a more straightforward manner.

Accuracy and verifiability

[edit]
  • Was the dummy gun loaded with a blank or a wax bullet? The two are not the same thing
 Fixed.

Broad

[edit]
  • Was he ever convicted in juvenile court for his earlier crimes in Florida?
The available sources indicate that he was institutionalized, but do not specify a juvenile conviction. KimChee (talk) 19:23, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • It might be helpful to list his sisters and half-sisters
This is also limited by the information from available sources, but an additional half-sister that was identified in a source has been added to the article. KimChee (talk) 19:23, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
