Suicide?

[edit]

I haven't seen any sources stating that John Washington committed suicide.--Conewago (talk) 15:52, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ancestor

[edit]

John Washington was the great-grandfather of George and emigrated to America, where he married and settled. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pamour (talkcontribs) 21:21, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Added to Lead

[edit]

Expanded Lead to tell more of his life. Added material to marriages - context. Note the high mortality among his wives and their previous husbands. Life was hard and there was much disease.Parkwells (talk) 17:33, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed article title-change - from John Washington to John Washington (1631-1677).

[edit]

I am proposing that the title of this article should be changed to John Washington 1631-1677 - there are simply too many John Washingtons and readers/editors are getting them mixed-up. I think all of the various John Washingtons should be clearly delineated with birth/death years to forestall these continuing issues of confusing and co-mingling different people's information. more work needed

[edit]

I cleaned up this article and that of his fellow officer Isaac Allerton Jr. in the last several days based on a couple of reasonably reliable articles. However, I don't have time to view the Westmoreland county deed books and transcripts cited here, nor look for an article about the incident with Native Americans that led to charges against him, which were presumably dropped either because he died shortly after the deposition, or his ally Gov. Berkeley was removed. I've done my best to harmonize the tertiary sources. Also, I may have linked to the wrong George Mason in the Allerton article, for years ago in researching Mary Kittamaquund, a local history book less authoritative than the Westmoreland county work cited claimed the men who slaughtered the friendly Doeg were George Mason II and Mary's black sheep son Giles Brent Jr. As for the article renaming, I'll try to figure out the other two John Washingtons (as distinct from John Augustine Washingtons, etc!) who served in the Virginia General Assembly. Or the renaming could follow the pattern of the Lee family, with Richard Lee I the emigrant as well as Henry Lee I.Jweaver28 (talk) 19:20, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
